CookieRun and its community - The sweetest mobile game franchise with the most toxic fanbase

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
i was told abt this thread so i wanna give a bit of imput as someone who plays at a high level on ovenbreak ( level 288 )

there are some people who cheat in the game to try to get high scores, either by exploiting or account sharing (account sharing is banned)
Untitled89_20240920171619.png
you cant get on the leaderboard if you’re under level 100 for anything so this top
score is already sus
but all of the cookies used for these runs are old so they’ve been outclassed big time, some arent at max level either
IMG_6196.pngIMG_6206.png
rare treasures (the blue hexagons) are rarely ever more useful than an epic treasure (pink hexagon) too
there are some more examples i can try to find but this one was from a few months ago

New controversy! A new character was shown for Tower of Adventures on Twitter and this was her intro video:

With a fanbase mostly filled with Twitter kids, this was called gooner bait (and racist of course) and people are crucifying Devsis again for it.

welcome back, centipede cookie. and this time, there's no yogurca connection!
why the cr community is unable to touch grass?

Man, I remember playing Cookie Run Line a long time ago; I never would have expected it would both get so popular and get such a retarded fanbase.

Cookie Run Line:
I'm not sure when I started, but from there I played until they shut down Line.

I don't know how it was for Ovenbreak 2009, but even back then there was annoying gacha shit (take some of this with a grain of salt, it might have been a literal decade since I last did these); iirc you rarely got gems/diamonds except for log-in and had to use them for all the high-level pet egg/treasure gachas. They were like 100 gems for all the good ones and you got like 2 or 3 a day, along with all the other crap that had to be grinded, such as fortune cookies that you had to "cook" (wait for a timer) to get effects to apply to treasures. Of course you could pay gems to speed it up, and if you ran out of the generous starter gifts, you could always buy more (you could see where the money is being made).

All the starter cookies were kind of bad, most of the good ones were locked behind levels, gems, or having friends, so if you wanted some good cookies, you either get the credit card or grind it out.

I ragged on it here bit I still think it was a fun game tho, personally believe it was better than Cookie Run: Ovenbreak

Cookie Run Ovenbreak:
I played it when it came out, and I would drop it and pick it back up again. I think what really killed the game for me was the Invocation Cards and not doing as good in the Trophy Race, that and a decrease in wanting to do gacha game daily quests

Cookie Run Kingdom:
I also played this one near when it came out. I can read a little Korean, so when I heard about cookie pronoun arguments, I checked the Korean text in-game. I wouldn't consider myself very good at reading but from what
I did see, it looked like Korean and English would disagree on pronouns; I also saw the wordiness in both trying to describe the genderless cookies (however, I only checked this stuff near release, and I should reiterate that my Korean isn't the best, so I may be wrong here).

I ended up dropping this game because I didn't really care about the gameplay, although the base-decorating part was kind of neat.

I never encountered this fandom stuff when J played Cookie Run Line, but I also didn't use social media that much back then. I definitely saw it when I played Ovenbreak and Kingdom, though.

This update released during Ramadan, and people are quick to cry racism
LMAO releasing a update to a food-based game duting Ramadan

EDIT TO AVOID DOUBLE POSTING: I was curious if genders were only changed in English, so I checked 나무위키 (Namu Wiki, think like a Korean version of a mix of Wikipedia in terms of style and FANDOM in terms of content) for character genders of the cookies mentioned in OP in Cookie Run Kingdom: surprise, surprise, Koreans don't care about nonbinaries:

성별 is gender, blue text 넘성 means male, red text 여성 means female

In no particular order
1000014974.jpg
1000014973.jpg
1000014975.jpg
BFTO Hassa
1000014971.jpg
1000014969.jpg

Let me know if something's wrong, first time using thumbnails

Anyways, I wonder if the English localization team is given free reign, they don't communicate with/lie to the Korean team, or something else is going on, since it seems weird that between two languages a character would have "different" genders.

Apologies for the double post, but I found an example of a modern Cookie Run fan:

Meet autisticfalcon, a nonbinary "Golden cheese cookie enthusiast" (Link/Archive)

I have no comments on the art, but I wanted to share the comments made by this account on some anniversary post made by the English Cookie Run Kingdom account (Link/Archive):

As of writing this post, the Instagram post has 309 comments. If I counted correctly, this person has posted 89 comments all simping for Golden Cheese Cookie. This person made up almost 1/3 of all the comments on this one post (really living up to the autistic name:story:)

Only modern Cookie Run fandom could create such a specimen (there could be more here, but I was really only interested in showing the comment spam on this one post)

behold, the apex of faggotry from the Kingdom fandom wiki.
in the Wiki news tab there's only 5 posts, and 2 of them are pronoun shit

besides the virtue signaling .... disability PRIDE !? is being crippled now just the same as being a troony fag ?? and why is dark choco cookie here??
also, isnt the second logo the map pride flag ??

also, isnt the second logo the map pride flag ??

It's the disability pride flag. I had to look this up.

Here are our disability ambassadors!

1731677143176.png1731677406152.png

Dark Choco Cookie is blind in one eye. But in the cool 'do you wanna know how I got these sick scars?' type of way. The Nick Fury, Garrus Vakarian, pirate with an eye-patch type of way. The 'this makes the character design fucking HYPE' way. I think it's also related to whatever angst the character has because he's always frowning and a massive grouch (as wary warrior-types often are).

Black Raisin Cookie has a villainous design and I'm betting they threw in the idea of her having only one arm because it looked cool (the shoulder plating hanging off her does look a little menacing). She's got a bunch of Raisin Crows that are buddy buddy with her and the game itself makes a point of saying "everyone deserves help, even a sorry one-legged crow" so the angle here is clearly that she got fucked up due to living in a shitty environment but doesn't allow that to hold her back and continues to be kind despite the hardships she's faced. Once upon a time her resilience and personality would have been the charm point in this equation not her missing arm, but all must be reduced to their weakest (or missing) parts nowadays.

1731677932399.png1731678359302.png

Strawberry Crepe Cookie seems like a reach because he's got his arms and his legs. I'm assuming they've handed this cookie autism because he's smart and a loner. He's just a genius kid who loves robotics and hates people.

Prune Juice Cookie is another with assumed disabilities because he (from the wiki) "has very low stamina and is shown to have difficulty running, possibly indicating that he has a sort of Cookie myopathy or another comparable condition." Or, and this is crazy, but maybe the potion master who spends all his time indoors and not participating in any physical activities just isn't in tip-top physical shape? No, you're right, that would be incredibly far fetched. Myopathy it is!

1731678924815.png

Baumkuchen Cookie is a literal elder council character in a wheelchair. Also an NPC, so I'm glad we crossed off four cookies and already had to start reaching. I see this less as disability and more as a clear sign of aging in a character design (which makes sense because it's based on a game where every character spends the bulk of their lives running).

In Conclusion

We've got two warrior types whose disabilities are a small (and largely insignificant) part of a much bigger picture. Both of them haven't allowed these setbacks to overtake the rest of their lives. They are more than their missing features. They fly in the face of Disability Pride Month, where being disabled is the whole fucking point, and for that reason I think their inclusion is blasphemous and incredibly inappropriate.

Then we have a genius and an alchemist. Weren't these the same crowd who yelled that depicting genius levels of intelligence and social isolation as the only side effects of retardation was BAD and DAMAGING for the movement because mental conditions were often more nuanced than depicted in media? Crepe should be disqualified. Meanwhile, Prune Juice is a blight on the Fat Positivity movement. Having someone staying cooped up all day and not gaining any weight, slim and pretty as their more athletic counterparts with no effort at all? Slanderous lies cooked up by the patriarchy to put women DOWN. And the gull to name him PRUNE Juice? I'm disgusted and my day is ruined. What tasteless oversight.

And finally, Baumkuchen. This cookie would be okay representation... 50 years ago. The religious imagery paired with his unrelenting whiteness just belittles disabled POC and their struggles to get free health care by showing off a rich, old, white, cis male cookie in his expensive Jesus-chair, likely funded by the state's monthly 'Beat a POC' parades in honor of the fake whitey Christ. For fucking shame.

TL;DR: Do better, Cookie Run: Kingdom Wiki.

XISTERS we got a new heccin enby!!!!
Speaking of enbies; Cookie Run Kakao (which is not dead; suddenly got updates, monthly starting from its 11th anniversary) added a nonbinary cookie, Strawberry Shortcake Cookie (Archive)
(성별 is gender, 불병 is unknown, which I'm counting as non-binary)
Strawberry Shortcake Cookie, from Namu Wiki, depicting nonbinary as gender
Looks like the poz has reached the Koreans *sigh*

Since I found out Cookie Run Kakao is playable and I have a Kakao account, I decided to try it out.
Since Cookie Run Kakao is what Cookie Run Line is based off of, I'll go through the points I said in my original post about Line
If you want to try it out, note that it's all in Korean and there is no other language options
Annoying gacha shit being everywhere: I was right, still need to gacha for good treasures and pets (although for treasure you can get away with the ones you get from levelling cookies)

Getting cookies/starter cookies: Starter cookies aren't as bad as I remembered, but the unlock requirements for some are ridiculous
Some require crystals, like requiring certain pets (20 crystals on highest level pet gacha) or x amount treasures (crystals for treasure gacha, crystals to expand inventory of treasures), while others require friends (max 333 for Dino Cookie; mind you Kakao accounts require a real phone number, ain't nobody got 333 friends on KakaoTalk)
Of course, as I said, these requirements can be skipped by buying with crystals, but it would be best to just buy the best coin farming cookie, Banana Cookie

There are mystery boxes in each level which contain a variety of rewards, such as Mystery Jewels (get x amount and you can get one of 13 rewards, best is a Legendary Cookie/Pet), ingredients (needed to evolve treasures), fortune cookies (which can be baked to get rewards but CANNOT be skipped with crystals or used to power up cookies directly) and other low-tier rewards like small amount of coins)

What I really dislike is how necessary coins are; you need them to upgrade Cookies, upgrade Pets (if you do the pet gacha without maxing all of them, its possible to get the same pet again and waste 20 crystals), level and evolve Treasures (which have a chance of failing if you use coins, so of course you can use crystals), and various other things that I'm probably not remembering right now.

For more monetization, the most recent update to Cookie Run Kakao added skins for Cookies and Pets:
Screenshot_20241116_173429[1].jpgScreenshot_20241116_173437[1].jpg
Roughly $40 for the bundle, $6.50 for Gingerbrave's skin, $11 for each Legendary Cookie's skin, and $4 for the pet's skin
Pretty cool but I wouldn't buy them, I'm too cheap to do so

Even with all of this, the base gameplay is still great IMO, so it's still as fun as I remember (been playing it every day since I first found out Kakao was still online and getting updates; nice trip down memory lane) :)

To end it off, a funny thing I saw on the Cookie Run Wiki regarding Yogurca (the area with controversy as noted in the OP):
A trigger warning for "Middle Eastern stereotypes" :story:

Honestly I never trust the wiki. Because I've noticed they turn "indeterminate gender" into "non-binary" so fuckin fast.
I checked some in-game text (not all to be honest) to see if the wiki is correct

The cooke in question (Strawberry Shortcake Cookie)
1000015483.jpg

Loved for a long time by a certain cookie, this cake dog went on a long journey as a puppy to make a wish to a witch, and returned again as a "Bankuban" dog. While so much time has passed that the master cookie's face has faded away, the happy memories spent together are clear! If you get close and smell it, you might recognize it!?
The treasure you get from levelling the cookie to max
1000015482.jpg
주인 쿠키가 선물해준 쿠션. 케이크들개의 발바닥에서 나는 딸기케이크 향이 나는 걸 보면 오랫동안 소중히 안고 다닌 모양이다.

A cushion gifted by the master cookie. Based on the strawberry cake smell coming from the cake dog's paws, it must have been carried it around for a long time.

Point is in both, the Korean is written with no obvious pronouns or gendered-words, so the cookie is not gendered (not by these pieces of text at least) and the Korean wiki I listed is correct (for now). Interestingly, for the second sentence in the treasure flavor text, Google Translate puts "he" (as in "he carried it") while DeepL puts "they"; either way not truly accurate to the text (as I have read it)

Korean here.

There are no gender-neutral pronouns. Nouns are referred to by their determiners. The wiki is correct in that the specified cookie has an undetermined gender. Enbies are also not popular in Korean creative works, even LGBTQ+ ones, mostly due to this language limitation (which is a blessing in disguise if you think about it)

Wiktionary (yes, I know, wikipedos, but in this case they've gotten things right) gives examples:

(the "they"s at the bottom means "they" in the plural sense, not gender-neutral sense)

I'm sorry, I should have clarified the English wiki. Not the Korean.
Not to pick on you, but this primed me to check two of the English Cookie Run Fandom wikis, Cookie Run Wiki and Cookie Run Kingdom Wiki
In typical Wiki fashion, not only do they have sections for nonbinary characters, but also characters with no known pronouns and it/its pronouns (which to be honest I didn't know existed, but I'm not surprised).

Every time I come back to this thread, I be thanking God I don't have the amount of sensitivity these people have where they'd find the biggest problems over the smallest things and calling anything and everything offensive. I'm so glad I care about actual issues over whether a literal piece of fictional cookie dough is disabled or is LITERALY_ME.JPEG.

These people are the definition of the SJW crowd and never being satisfied with anything. Honestly, actually? This is what happens when SJW MINORS infect a piece of media. They're easily impressionable and are the worst of it all. I can't imagine being a normal Cookie Run fan having to see all of this, having to constantly be on your back so you won't get deplatformed because you accidentally called a 2D drawing the wrong pronouns. TRANS GENOCIDE OH NO!! Or something.

I knew I was forgetting to mention something ITT: as of November 20th, 2024, Yogurt Cream Cookie has been completely memory-holed by the Cookie Run Kingdom devs.
1734711829514.png1734711837013.png
The first screenshot comes from the Tropical Soda Islands mode*, released all the way back in June 21st, 2021. The main reason Yogurt Cream Cookie exists in this mode to begin with is because it makes no sense for Lilac Cookie to appear otherwise, as he is Yogurt Cream Cookie's personal bodyguard.

Now, jumping to last month, the Perfumer's Quest special episode released as a way of bringing CRKCN content into the global version of the game. And while Lilac Cookie shows up (and is on the receiving end of a CN costume), Yogurt Cream Cookie might as well not exist now, having been replaced by a nameless, faceless, "Wealthy Cookie".

Not sure if anyone has played CRKCN and can confirm it, but I believe Perfumer's Quest (not to be confused with The Flower City, which is a CN story translated into English) is exclusive to the global version of Kingdom and, therefore, the decision of "de-canonizing" Yogurt Cream Cookie in Kingdom was a deliberate decision by the devs and not the product of some Chinese censorship law.

*Before anyone asks, those two screenshots are mine so I can confirm that they didn't edit the Tropical Soda Islands cutscenes to delete Yogurt Cream Cookie's likeness. It might be because this mode is permanent and you can make progress in it whenever you want, or never play it, so why bother?
