Creepypasta Discussion Thread

The Thief in Yellow Robe is an alright story, but it is by it's very nature a derivative work of The King in Yellow. I kept thinking about how similar it was. And that's a bit unfair, because it does well on it's own merits.

I mentioned this in one of my first posts in this forum about there being a Pikmin creepypasta I read a few years back. I can't find it now (granted I haven't looked hard) but I remember that it involved Hitler in some way, like there was a giant friendship windmill enemy or something and there was this guy who had his limbs cut off and eyes gouged out and stuff and he was Hitler. If I manage to find it I'll post it here.

Think I found it. This it? http://trollpasta.wikia.com/wiki/Pikmin

^ Yes that was the one. Man, I don't remember it being this bad. Also the catagoires at the bottom of the page. :story:

I’ve got a love/hate relationship with creepypastas. Been interested in them on and off since about 10 years ago.

A few problems I have with them include ones that introduce a really interesting idea or concept only to abruptly end in an anticlimax. There’s something to be said for leaving things to the reader’s imagination but a lot of these come across as unfinished.

Also I’ve had to unsubscribe from a few creepypasta readers on YouTube for consistently and stubbornly pronouncing basic words wrong and for having really irritating vocal inflections. Also some guy would put his “face reveal” in every single damn video that was totally distracting, irrelevant and unnecessary. He was some dumb-sounding meat head.

Sorry for no specifics. I just tend to listen to a bunch of random channels on YouTube with little care so I can’t really remember who is who.

I prefer my creepypastas to be longer, though they can lose momentum if the writer isn't skilled. If you're looking for longer stories that work, I'd recommend The Sick Land. It's a long read but it's worth it, though I don't know if it technically counts as a creepypasta.
Holy shit, I know this post's like 3 years old but I just wanted to say thank you - I literally came onto this thread to see if anyone could identify this story from my vague recollections since I couldn't find it online.

I'm not sure if this counts as creepypasta in the strictest sense either, but the Search and Rescue Officer stories on r/nosleep are pretty great.

I like r/no_sleep. A lot of good writers gather there.

There is a comedy/horror series about quite an eccentric character, Carol, who is the Aunt of the narrator. It is both hysterical and horrifying.
This would be the first story, if I recall correctly.

Another hilarious horror series is about Madison and her posts on Reddit asking what's wrong with her sister.
First story here.

I tend to have to opposite issue where a creepy idea is over explored because the spookalo's explained and engages in some over the top shit.

I actually really enjoyed the whole Slenderman hype when it first started with Marble Hornets. Now it's all shit. :(

Jeff the Killer is just bizarre. Not creepy at all in my opinion, unless you're including the fans. Then it's weird.

I don't know, I like getting spooked but I honestly find real life stuff gets me more these days. Unsolved missing persons, deaths, murders and such...

Ok imma rez this thread because this apparently just happened. Unless there is a dedicated ruse campaign at work....this is real

guess we should've expected this after that crappy slenderman movie and all those shitty syfy creepypasta failures

I just wonder what the odds are on a Dead Bart treehouse of horror episode this year and references to Sonic.exe in the coming sanic movie?

I wasn't really sure where to put this but I guess this thread works. Does anyone follow nexpo? I generally like his content when he talks about obscure internet oddities I never heard of before. He released a cinematic adaptation of the creepypasta "Ben drowned" and less than 20 minutes in I already started cringing at the stereotypical jumpscare noises and glitchy visual effects laid over the live action footage.

Ben Drowned was a shitty creepypasta that inspired even more shitty ones like Sonic.exe. I think the only good creepypasta about video games was Pokemon Creepy Black, most of the other ones were "omg this game was haunted and it was gonna kill me so I sold the game on ebay"

I can give Ben drowned points for putting in the effort to actually mess with the game to record the stuff that was talked about in the story, like how I can give the NES godzilla one even more points for doing all the custom sprites and such. I agree that even back then the whole "Game tries to kill me" part is embarrassing but if people put enough effort into it I feel like it at least has some artistic value in that aspect.

Yeah, the sprite work in NES Godzilla is legit amazing, but holy shit did the story shit the bed hard with the whole "my dead gf is trapped in the game and she is going to save me from the devil" shit

Video game ones are usually the weakest, the only ones I really liked was mario and mr mix, video game creepypastas are probably the hardest to do. As I mentioned I've always thought they work best when they imply something is going on, that our world is the tip of the iceberg and something terrible is waiting outside the firelight.
Gaming ones suffer for for some reason.
