The size of modern games is utterly grotesque and on cue Raycevick posted a video recently tackling the topic which answered a lot of my questions as to why this is a trend nowadays.


As a side note: I can only see myself playing this game years down the line when absolutely every major issue has been ironed out and after installing community patches and mods to improve it further (read gets rid of the pozed garbage within it). By that time CDPR might actually come to their senses and also included a ton of gameplay rebalances and more storyline choices and options for players to give Johnny Silverhand the middle finger and get rid of him so players aren't subordinate to some brain parasite forcing you into actions you would not take otherwise.

I'm about ten hours into it. From what I've played plus what I've seen online about the endings and quests it's obvious this game had several dozen versions that they started on and then scrapped, with this final one probably not likely having even two years of development time. All of the mechanics feel undeveloped, the story so far is pretty linear, and most of the side quests are really basic and lacking. Despite all the gangs and corporations there doesn't even seem to be any sort of faction or reputation system, just a 'Street Cred' stat that seems to let you buy higher tier items from vendors.

I dunno what they were doing for 8 years but very little of whatever work they got done during that period went into the version we're playing.

This is one of the most baffling takes about GTAIV because it is factually complete bullshit, and yet it's the most popular one people shit out for why IV is bad.

I sort of expected bullet sponges at some point. However, you can literally go right behind the first killable enemy you encounter, shoot them in the back of the head, and they will only go down to half health on normal difficulty.

In conclusion, there is not a single white man in that list who holds a real job and isn't somehow a "disability consultant" or a quadroplegic streamer or whatever, whereas among the other big groups there are many people with normal real jobs (like designer, programmer or whatever). In other words, to qualify as human today, if you're white and male, you have to get down on all four, cower, snivel and submit towards the unprivileged and dedicate yourself towards serving them, whereas if you're black, female or whatever, you can just do whatever job you like and still get appreciated for it.

In general those awards sound extremely incestuous and indicative of a consultant class that only serves to 'advise', occasionally create reports, and pat each others on the backs on Twitter. A lot of what the nominees are being nominated for (even among those with actual careers) is extremely vague (i.e. 'building awareness'), and is perhaps an indication of this.

The only legitimacy is what they give themselves, it seems.
