CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - The family of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student David Hogg was "swatted" Tuesday morning, causing police to respond to their Parkland home.

A call came into the Broward Sheriff's Office claiming a hostage situation at the home in the 7800 block of Northwest 122nd Way.

Coral Springs Fire Rescue arrived at the scene to find there was no hostage situation and the call was a prank.

Hogg was not home at the time of the incident and is currently in Washington, DC with his mother to accept the RFK Human Rights award.

Sky 10 was over the home as units were staged outside as a precaution. BSO responded with multiple crews and a police helicopter.

Swatting is the action of making a prank emergency call to bring about a response of armed law enforcement officers.

Since the shootings at Stoneman Douglas, Hogg has been a prominent advocate for gun safety. However, Hogg has been a lightning rod for controversy as some do not approve of his methods, such as holding a "die in" at a Coral Springs Publix last week.

Just because he survived a horrible thing that will probably effect his entire life from that point on doesn't excuse his dumb and even treasonous words/actions afterwards.
So he should be SWATed for it? Because this right here sounds like someone saying that its understandable that the kid would get SWATed.
Good luck on your “meme war” dipshit, you don’t know the can of worms you opened but you got your first lesson today.
If you think someone should be SWATed for saying things you disagree with, then you're pretty mad at the internet.

No one is saying he should have been swatted, we're saying that he's saying dumb-ass shit.

No one is saying he deserves to be swatted, but after he started being an attention whore and picking a fight with anyone who doesnt wanna suck his dick, he should had seen this coming

I guess it is a matter of interpretation, then, because when someone says literally say that getting SWATed is your first lesson in response to saying something people dislike, that leads me to interpret that he should have been SWATed.

But to be honest, I also do interpret that the people in this thread who have said:
Talk shit, get hit
Are sorta walking themselves back a bit after realizing that not everyone agrees.

I’m not denying I’m mad. I don’t like the kid because he’s an idiot and a distraction from having conversations that could actually help end school shootings. We need way more mental health funding, psychiatrists in schools, and laws that punish bullies and educators that condone bullying.

Sweeping the floor of a publix with your weird looking face and declaring a “meme war” isn’t helping shit.

he should had seen this coming

No, he shouldn't have. No one should see this kind of grossly dangerous bullshit headed their way for saying some dumb shit. They should just expect to be called on it often and with prejudice , but not have their life and those of their loved ones put in danger

They have just repackaged the same anti-gun stuff they have pushed since the 90's. The language hasn't even changed much either.

It's the AWB, magazine capacity, gun registry, elimination of legal private sales, giving another gov't bureaucracy regulatory powers, and age to purchase restrictions all rolled into one. The only thing different this time around is they want to fund more mental health initiatives, change reporting requirements, and school security.

Guess which measures the NRA agree with and which ones they oppose?

Hogg and Co are just the fresh coat of paint on the same old agenda.

The older activists wanted to ban handguns, conceal carry, shotguns, and just about everything else. This group is just using a more incremental approach.

Personally, the CDC should keep stats. If anything about law enforcement and their lethal engagement stats. The fact that we consider intervention by the SWAT team to be almost a lethal given should concern us. Germany's GSG9 has only had 5 uses of its firearms in its 40 yr history. US law enforcement has proportionally had a lot more deadly outcomes for often less dangerous encounters.

If recent events have taught us anything, we do have an issue at the very least of the police and crazy people being unable to self regulate themselves in regards to firearms. Yes, the CDC should look into this at the very least. Having more research on this and developing more non-lethal methods for the police to employ can't be a bad thing.

Mental health in the US is laughable. No one disagrees with this and doctors should report these cases more often to law-enforcement.

Do you disagree with these aspects? Yes, gun control activists will blow everything out of proportion; but being the guys to say no to reasonable things, publically attacking survivors, concocting crazed conspiracy theories, or just trying to change the subject will only lose in the long and short run.

I also love the fact that these morons think that after banning the assault weapons suddenly school shootings will decrease
Whats stopping these future shooters from modifying a nail gun or getting gud with a pistol?
Hell i still remember a few years ago how a kid in mexico got his hands on a 1911 and killed 14 students

What stopping them from using homemade pipe bombs or propane tanks like the kid in Texas? What’s next, banning propane tanks and pipes?

I’m for tough gun laws and requirements. Don’t get me wrong, it’s disingenuous to argue banning guns solves these problems when the root causes are mental illness and bullying.

What is with this idea that going "yeah, well what did he expect?" or finding humor in the irony means you support it? Has any kiwi ever swatted someone? Is it not okay to laugh at the fact that someone got shit on by another person in a shitty way (that you don't agree with personally) anymore?

I mean really, I find it especially fucking sad that anyone here of all places needs to be reminded that nuance and ambivalence are things that exist. FYI, humans can disagree with something that has happened to someone whilst still finding it funny or amusing. This is the same kind of shit as "that guy irrationally hates homosexuals? Well obviously he's a repressed homosexual!" idiot mentality.

Yeah, some people actually hate the dude for being an idiot. This in turn makes them idiots, it doesn't mean every single person who finds this ironic (for obvious reasons) or makes a post that makes light of it agrees with swatting people for political reasons.

Considering how often swatting happens, it's inexcusable that when a call comes in about a movie-grade hostage situation, the cops don't send at least one officer to even check on the situation before hitting the big red button..... professionalism needs to be more of a goal for cops than justifying buying all those AR15's and milsurp APCs.

Hmm... it's almost like the gov who should be the only one armed failed him three times, WITH FIREARMS

Yet I shouldn't own a gun? Makes perfect sense.

SWATing is not cool and not at all something I would want to happen or condone, but I can't help but agree he brought himself into it. No way should speech cause this, but we know actions have autistic and serious repercussions. If I yell I hate niggers, someone is gonna punch me out, I don't think this is right because words don't equal violence in any way. But its really hard to feel sorry for me when I did that. Am I right?

Hogg claimed he was gonna be the big bad internet and the hacker known as 4chan. You don't even have to be a user of the net to know 4chan does and will swat people, reddit does, twitch does etc. From times they are seriously pissed off to times just to be a ween.

He put his hand in a bear trap and he's not a bear so it shouldn't go off but well the trap doesn't much care once that spring is triggered.

Yeah, it was obnoxious how much the media has overhyped these survivors, but let's face a simple fact. It is way too easy for utterly crazy people who have no business being out in society to purchase lethal weaponry.

If you all want to say the 2nd amendment justifies crazy people owning guns whenever they want to, you are already engaged in a lost fight. The NRA was stupid to try to fight this battle and you are all nuts for saying this is okay or even justifies this. I would not call it attempted murder like some nuts, but I would say this is really out of line.
It's only easy because the background check files aren't kept up. There were plenty of warning signs but no one did their fucking due diligence. The FBI investigated the shooter on multiple occasions (this is true of several mass shooters) but no red flags went up when they went through the NICS check. The law in theory should work, but since those enforcing the current laws are lazy or incompetent, what do you want to do? We have laws in place that aren't enforced.

Also, don't know when the NRA said the 2nd Amendment justifies crazy people owning guns. I'll need to see a source on that isn't an anti-gun blog post.

Agreed. The First Amendment is there to protect people with unpopular opinions. As much as I think Hogg is a retard with a punchable face, 1A protects his right to publicly spout whatever he wants and neither I nor congress can say that he can't. Swatting makes the other side look bad and if he got killed in a Swatting incident it would just make a martyr out of him.

I get the feeling he'll run out of steam (or hot air, whatever he runs on) soon enough.
