David Jaffe has nothing to do and he's going crazy

Seems like Jaffe had made himself unwoke recently to my surprise, I look at his recent videos and streams and it's like looking at a bizarro sort of dimension. I unlisted my video unless I choose to list it back otherwise because I don't want to censor my videos because censorship is stupid but I think I kinda made my point and maybe I gone too overboard with it, but it's good to see that he's defending TM now in his newer stream and he's calling names out that talk shit against it. I'm just tired of all this lecturing shit, anyone can talk about Politics but it just warps the mind so much and it hurt me when Jaffe said back then that he was Pro SJW, maybe I just didn't get the joke and took something to much to heart that was a little stupid because I heard that he just bashes people for talking about his games. I'm glad to admit for once I'm wrong somewhere, I don't know...

The world is crazy but Jaffe, i'm glad you're making more of that content with games. Make more of that shit man!

I just started replaying the OG God of War (as well as buying the Santa Monica bundle on PS4) and was wondering what the hell happened to David Jaffe. Sad to see he sunk so low.

Guys like him and Cliffy B were legends in the mid-2000’s and they suited that era perfectly. Sadly, big publishers have little to no interest in their edgelord pedigree (except maybe Bethesda with Doom) and instead of going their own way they’re just trying to cling to relevance by doing and saying what they perceive as all the right things.

It seems this happened to a lot of game devs I thought were cool as a kid. Haven’t heard a peep from Ted Price in ages and Insomniac now seems to exclusively earn their living on Spider-Man games.

he's been crazy since he adamently defended Netflix's Cuties
No shit, I was the one that even stated that KIDS did it much better on Twitter, that movie was an X-Rated film with 18 year olds, and it was never as disgusting as Cuties was. Cuties is a very revolting film, it has a message someone can relate to but the way they filmed it and made it how it is is disgusting, I don't recommend that shite movie. How a movie about a 18 year old playing a 17 year old with AIDS spreading it around becomes the tamest movie compared to this shite film is really REALLY stretching things, and now Pedowood will hurt kids even more because of it, except NetCuckz is already going through a grand jury.

Karma is an relevant bitch and for good reason.

I miss the era of "Rockstar" devs too.

I wound up discussing this with a coworker earlier today and that’s the exact term I used. It used to be you’d hear a specific person was spearheading a game’s development and you got excited. Now it seems the only people that really happens with are Shinji Mikami and Hideo Kojima (and their most recent projects have been somewhat polarizing so that’s not even 100% accurate).

It seems like it was moving towards what movies are like where people get excited for specific directors ala Spielberg, Scorsese etc.

I think Bioshock Infinite is what killed the "auteur" era of gaming when it didn't make enough money and Ken Levine hasn't been seen since even though he's supposedly been working on a new game, Bioshock Infinite was a bit like gaming's "Heaven's Gate"

I dunno, I'd say Neil Druckmann and Last of Us 2 is more the death knell for auteur gaming.

Eh, we've still got Suda51, who's working on No More Heroes 3, and Toby Fox, who's working on Deltarune chapter 2.

There's something to be said about Keiji Inafune and Yu Suzuki cashing in on their names while they still can.

Most of them got old, that seems to be the main issue. Mikami at least had the humility to hand off the directorial reigns to some young designer with no clout who went on to make TEW2 which was better than TEW1 in pretty much every way, to ths point where I beat it for the first time 2 weeks ago and am already on my 3rd playthrough. Hopefully John Johanas gets to direct more games. Kojima on the other hand seems to have a coniption any time someone else tried to do Metal Gear in a way he didn't like. Cliffy B became a walking joke. Warren Spector is old and can't seem to get reliable funding or a decent publisher. Itagaki got fucked over by Tecmo and then like 4 other publishers with Devil's Third. Hugo Martin is at least making himself a little bit of a rockstar.

Hideki Kamiya is still going strong. Platinum's placing some big bets these days, and if they pay off, he could wind up with his own publishing house. This seems to be spurred by how pissed he was to lose Scalebound, so here's hoping he enables many weirdass Japanese passion projects.

Big personalities in the industry are definitely in a lull, but I get the impression a lot of the names from my childhood were just corporate faces, glory hogs, or both. These days, though, a dev is basically obligated to do a tour as an indie if they want their name to ever rise above their employers, and the hacks mostly wash out. Gaming's gonna be real good in ten years or so if the money people cooperate.

Cliffy and Jaffe are the definition of being washed. pathetic to see artists who recognized they're losing relevance and instead of getting some young bloods to help rethink their dusty ass arena shooters their solution is "what I need is politics."

Reactions: Judge Dredd
If you want to be creative you can't go the route of Multiplayer Arena shooter to begin with.

That's already been monetized to hell because of Activision and Epic. People don't want to learn a new game at this point.

If you want to mix things up you have to go Single Player and Co-Op only and allow for couch co-op. A single player game will put emphasis on level design, boss battles, and puzzles.

I never understood why Kamiya even thought Scalebound was a good idea in the first place. Having a game where you have an AI companion you have to take care of is almost always a recipe for disaster, only time it kinda worked was RE4 and even then the Ashley levels were the least fun levels in the game. Expanding that onto an action game where you have to rely on the AI to not only not die but to also keep up combos for you seems like a ridiculously stupid idea.

We didn't see much of Scalebound, but I got the distinct impression it would have worked more like Astral Chain, with the player controlling both at once. Whatever it was, Kamiya was psyched to bring it out, and I generally trust the man's ideas on what makes a good game.

Based on behind the scenes stuff you could take control of the dragon briefly but the human character would just stand there doing nothing and if he died during it so would you. I just can't think of a way to make that work, having AI companions is annoying enough when they can't lead to your death, having them be there and also being able to basically get you killed seems awful to me. Also them having it in development for like 3 years and still having a walk cycle that looked about as good as a first year animation students project screams that something was wrong. To my knowledge prior to that Platinum had never worked on Unreal Engine before so that might have been it.
