Even though pulling the "pedo" card is an overly exaggerated way of phrasing the argument, it's hard to deny that modern anime is inherently steeped in degenerate cultural norms which show themselves in the way characters are depicted.
Anime is more degenerate than it should be, but it's a little overblown. The majority of anime is relatively free of it, and most really degenerate shit can be avoided fairly easily. What is annoying is when it slips into anime you wouldn't expect it to, Arifureta always comes to mind as an especially egregious case since it came out of nowhere fairly far into the anime.

Imagine if a furry user came in here posting edits of their furry mascot and whenever someone called them out for spreading furfaggotry they responded with "what it's just a dog lol". That's how people without terminal anime brain are seeing this. The humour of it does offset the degen aspect to a degree, but it's still a transgression (albeit a very minor one not worth getting worked up over).
Furries have a distinct look to them, even different than regular anthropomorphic animal characters. Like, Sonic and Lucario don't look like your typical furry designs, whereas with anime girls they're all the same, there's no "loli" design you can spot a mile away.

It just feels very similar to the old argument I heard about 20 years ago. If anime is the gateway to pedophilia, then FPS is the gateway to mass killers. So considering most men are online these days and playing videogames, 80% of them should be raping children in the shopping mall food court while firing AK-47's into the crowds right at this very moment.
I'd argue that (most) anime leaves the door open for deeper forms of deviancy in a way that Call of Duty does not. But I said this wasn't a topic worth getting worked up over, so I won't.
