Destiny is a real tragedy to me because it's damn near the epitome of everything I find cool. You're a badass space hero armed to the teeth with guns and magic and you kick the asses of the equally cool bad guys across the solar system.
Too bad Bungie's greed killed it quite a while before they admitted it did. It could have easily grown bigger than Halo.

Hey Bungie, you want to know a magic trick that'll print you tons of money? Bring D1 and all of its contents to PC. Make it free for vanilla with the dlc being fairly priced and you'll have a good source of extra cash for a veeeery long time.

Good fucking riddance. Bungie deserves nothing but the worst. Luke Smith is a fat retarded nigger. The game has been shit since New (b)Light and was on a downward trend before that. Sunsetting weapons followed shortly by turning two beloved characters into old faggots was the final nail for me to stop giving the most remote of fucks about the game. I hope the next news we get is that Bungie is closing.

"Vaulted" content LMAO. They just fucking deleted that shit. Bungie truly does not give a fuck and I have no idea why anyone ever defends them anymore.

I was super into the franchise in 2014 and I was in the Bungie forums and Reddit typing out essays about the game and hoping to be part of a community that pushed Bungie to work hard and deliver. The slow death of the Crucible was the sign for me that Bungie was gonna keep that steady decline in quality and quantity, but somehow people still ate it up all the way to The Final Shape.

The Destiny community used to have a modicum of expectations and demands for Bungie, what is left of that community is now nothing more than retarded consumer-brained niggercattle that will eat up $20 skin bundles. God, I hate the modern gamer.

Now I see why the Destiny and FAGLORANT community are more familiar than they seem.

I've heard about friendly fallen and cabal but were there ever any friendly hive or vex?
The closest thing to friendly Hive was Savathun for a few seconds. There were a few friendly Vex throughout a handful of story points too.

Damn. Agree with everyone else's "wasted potential" sentiments. It's like they intentionally turbofucked this series to oblivion. I stopped playing years ago but still love the mechanics and gameplay for the most part. Shoutout to Dares of Eternity for hours of pointless fun.

The silver lining is that I don't have to see fucking YouTube thumbnails with "is Destiny 2 dead?" or "Destiny is dead and I can't continue" etc etc.

I'd argue Destiny 2 was dead after Lightfall and the Final Shape was just a last hurrah. Everything after was incredibly lukewarm. The constraints of the engine have been a known issue for development for years so I don't mind them ripping off the bandaid and just calling it quits, just let it be dead.
Lightfall was Bungie's biggest blunder. It was originally meant to be the final expansion in the light and dark saga but they ended up making it a filler DLC so they could work on The Final Shape as the actual ending. It fucking sucked, added shitty gay characters to the game alongside a years worth of filler content and the game never recovered from it. You could remove that entire years worth of story and just have it be that after the Witness entered the Traveller we were able to follow right after it without anything blocking us and nothing would've changed. Delaying Lightfall and having it be the final DLC wouldn't have damaged the games reputation as much as it ended up doing.

Savathun's Light Hive was neutral at times, iirc, and there was a friendly Wizard inside the Traveller that you fought alongside in a lost sector. A friendly Vex faction was being slowly set up led by Asher Mir who entered the Vex network.

Vaulting was a prime example of just how much MMO players (or vidya players in general) are cattle. They literally said "the content you paid for is gone, fuck you.", the players meagerly protested, then went back to buying new content anyways.

Was destiny ever even good?
Yes, at it's core Destiny has very engaging gunplay, movement, and satisfying player abilities. The OST was fucking stellar. The first time I completed Last Wish is still among the most fun I've had playing video games with friends. The Forsaken expansion was the best Destiny had ever been. It's just that everything surrounding those core gameplay mechanics was turned to utter fucking dogshit. Bungie let their greed and ego get the better of them and the game only got worse and worse as time went on.

I guess there's no requirements for Community Featured Submissions anymore? Okay, a game reached EOL why does the whole site need to know about it on the front page, it's not a shocking or major event, nothing relates to lolcow kinds of people...

You guys need to learn to bait that hook a little better.
Imagine how many guaranteed replies this thread would get if the community feature would say "Destiny has announced he's on life support and is expected to die in a month"

I think I'm going to miss /dg/ most of all.

Haven't been there in years (since I haven't played in years) but after checking up on them, they seem to be taking the news well.

Was a cool game up to Witch Queen, Lightfall was a massive fumble and they somehow saved it with The Final Shape.
TFS was clearly the narrative conclusion of the series, no one gave a fuck after that, not even the developers.
Its obvious they had no clue where to take it since the entire story revolved around the Black Fleet.

Should've put it on life support post-TFS and focused entirely on Marathon. Oh well, all good things die.
