Diablo 4 general - All shit will hit the fan this June

Those High Textures or w/e are leaky as hell, tried on two PCs, one with 16Gb VRAM and 32GB RAM and it all got filled, together with horrific stutters.
Other than that, the game systems seem more interesting and complex (from the hints, I'm just like lvl 15) than D3, graphics are mediocre but appropriate for ARPG, but I'm still not convinced to buy it, even with a few hundred Euros in account from selling my WoW gold to tokens when I quit.
I don't think I can be bothered with ARPGs for a long time. In D3 I got bored of farming rifts in a week or two, tops. It's just not my thing. In PoE, which I played quite early on, I quit at lvl 85 or w/e cause I got bored of running maps, which was the thing back then. Also because I wanted to play glasscannon Witch which was not viable.

LMAO

I looked at some people playing it, this looks shit, this doesn't have the artistic coherence of Diablo2.
So much glowing shit the screen turns into a complete cluster fuck once you are half an hour in. Making your environment desaturated and muddy looking is some low quality shit if you try to achieve a grim dark look, something I would have expected from some mobile dev not one of the biggest breast milk drinking game devs out there.

So I just spent most of the day with this game and here are my autistically long list of thoughts for you all. I'm on the PS4 console, which is by far the shittiest way to play this game but I didn't have much of an issue. I expected the long queue times. Didn't have to wait more than 30 minutes. Often not even that. There was a decent amount of lag here and there but otherwise performance was no better or worse than D2R.

I do enjoy how you can customize the settings menu to highlight or not highlight certain things. There's some setting options that I thought were really neat and that I wish were in D2R.

The drop rate is about as good as D2's. I'm not starving for good items like I was in 3. The merchants sell decent equipment, even magic and rare items on some occasions so gold can be important. However, I have some concerns but more on that later.

By far the best thing I liked was the character customization options. Being able to unlock the in game armor and sprites to equip them at any time with any weapon or armor is a great idea and something I've wanted since D2. I wonder if there were some Fashion Souls fans on the dev team. So far it's my favorite part of the game, bar none.

The shrines are pretty neat too. I found one that turned me into a lightning ball and I got to just go on a rampage like that one dragon in Elden Ring. Neat.

That's it for the purely positive stuff. The rest are my mixed to negative opinions. Feel free to hate.

The Skill Tree. It's very barebones, you get some core skills and a couple passives here and there. If they have interactive bonuses, i'm not aware of them yet so for now I will assume they don't. However, I do like how they make you choose only one bonus for each skill, it adds a little variance and agency but overall it doesn't feel very inspired. I made a Cold Sorceress and was pretty unimpressed. It's not offensively bad, but it's just not the greatest. It reminds me more of FF10's sphere grid only worse. You still feel overpowered and somehow underpowered at the same time though.

The Item Drop system. Since there's so many customization options, there also a lot more class specific items. It also seems like the drop pool is specifically honed in towards your character. I very rarely ever found items that I was unable to use. It seems like when other players of different class are nearby, that drop pool expands to both classes. I have no idea how this will work in parties with lots of people but this is the impression I got from it. It's very strange. Since you can salvage items for crafting materials though, it's not like anything you pick up is worthless. Heck you can rip bonuses off of items you otherwise might not be able to use and convert them into upgradeables on weapons you can use which is neat. However, I'm just confused as to how exactly this will affect party play.

Level curving and scaling. I'm also concerned how the areas level curve with you will affect party play. Do other players just have to fight the same level monsters you do? Any clarification on this would be appreciated.

Diablo 3 Bosses. It looks like the Diablo 3 and Immortal boss monster mechanics are back for better or worse. I didn't mind them as much here. The ones I played were fine-ish but I feel like the "Set traps", "Fire projectiles", "Summon minions" mechanics will get stale very quickly if they abuse them as much as they already have. They also like to teleport on top of you a lot. I didn't find these fun in D3, and I'm not the biggest fan here. We'll see how they fare down the line.

Bloat. There's A LOT of features here that don't feel necessary and it's all overall very inconsequential. There's mini-events on the maps, tons of mini-quests, and the maps themselves are massive. The craft system is super generic. I don't understand the point of the Gambling System. Why not just use Gold? Why do mini events need their own currency? There's so much stuff to do here and it just feels too out of focus. It's easy to get lost among a myriad of ultimately pointless crap. I think this what will hurt replayability in the long run. Who wants to go through all this stuff?

Graphics. I won't harp on this too much because I'll happily sacrifice good graphics for cross platform play on EVERY device, but they're pretty bad. It's very much a trade off of Game Accessibility for Appearance. The biggest problem with graphics for me though is enemy design so far feels very uninspired. The best enemies I've encountered were the Treehulks who looked pretty cool and decently designed. The Phantom Wraiths weren't bad either. Reminded me of little Mini Mephisto's. As others have stated, the Fallen design can eat a dick.

One last thing before I get to the Story. Fuck the Spiders. They're the only enemy that almost killed me because they swarm you super quickly and spawn right on top of you. As such, they're my favorite enemies in the game.

Now to end this mini-review, let's discuss, THE STORY. I'm not far in, I didn't finish the Beta but boy do I have a lot say. Spoiler Free below.

The story is SLOW. It is exhaustingly slow. It feels less like a Diablo game, and more like a DND Campaign. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this plotline started out as a DND Campaign. Your mileage on this will depend how much like you this stuff or not. We meander around mostly doing nothing of consequence for a very lengthy part of the Beta. There is nothing original happening in this story. You will see the same plot beats you've seen a dozen times before, to the point it is LAUGHABLE. That goes right down to the side quests too. It's not just thin story-telling, there's just isn't one. Lilith is summoned a la the trailer, and...that's about it. Compare this to Diablo 3's story where the world was supposed to be invaded by Hell, but for some reason it wasn't. Deckard Cain is investigating why all Hell hasn't literally broken loose. He figures out it has something to do with the Black Soulstone and he gets a vision of Asmodan threatening invasion. That's all before the game even starts. I'm sure there's stuff I simply haven't gotten to yet, but I'm over 4 hours in, and this is all I've gotten so far. So just be ready for a long haul for any payoff. If any payoff is even coming.

I'm mostly concerned though with what I'm seeing in the background from the NPCs. Diablo 3 (aside from killing Deckard Cain) was mostly fine story-wise until it nosedived off a cliff in the final act. I can see the same writing on the wall here. There's a lot of talk about the Cathedral of Light not being all it's cracked up to be. There's a lot of anti-religion undertones about Inarius being an ass hole and not the savior the people want him to be. These anti-Heaven undertones were the start of what ruined Diablo 3 and I have a feeling we're heading towards the same fuck up here. I think what I'm most of afraid is we find out Lilith's plot is secretly to SAVE and PROTECT humanity and Sanctuary and she's just a messed up tragic figure while Inarius is the real villain all along. It's 2023, and just like that shitty movie Barbarian, the real devil was MAN all along. I hope not, but I don't put it past this writing team doing this or something equally as stupid. I love how I'm half way through the Beta and the Prime Evils have only been mentioned maybe once. In a game called Diablo, there's surprisingly little mention of Diablo so far or anything referring to him. Either way, I'm hoping this doesn't end in woke California nonsense but the Beta did start to get me concerned.

Billions of various currencies sounds like mobile p2w game shit influence.

The predictions above match my feeling. You’ll end up with the damn standard twist they all have. At this point Diablo being evil would be the twist ending.

It's definitely the pay to win influence. Diablo Immortal stuff is littered all over here. I don't know how p2w it will ultimately be. Maybe casuals will stand a chance if tiers are separated. There's still makings of a fun game here though even if you're just doing a solo campaign. Personally, I don't mind faggy amateur DND crap tier side quests, I can enjoy them for what they are. Not for a $70-80 price tag though. If it ever goes on sale, as of right now I'd pick it up for $30. If my predictions are right though, then fuck no. I'll see how the rest of the beta goes and let y'all know what I think at the end.

I don't mind faggy amateur DND crap tier side quests,
I don't mind shitty quests, but what I hate about D4 right now is how long winded all the dialogue is and how much "run here, talk to X, run back and talk to Y" bullshit there is. D2 had the benefit that you could just do the quests without the dialogue, but the dialogue offered was just background lore so if you did stop and listen to it, it built the world without you having to really know it either.

There's a lot of potential to D4, but I feel like they'll fuck it up.

So uh
I could see things getting stupid beyond @Party Hat Wurmple, what if is right and the leak part of Diablo dindu nuffin' wrong is because all along he was doing it to help Lilith against Inarius? Because i could see Activision-Blizzard going that kind of full retard

I finished the beta and thought it was alright. Looks great compared to Diablo 3's ugly-ass clownshoes visuals.

No one cares about Lillith, it's called DIABLO, so the story is a 0/10 since he's been dead since 2 and was retardedly brought back in 3 as a tranny demon, and then killed again completely.
This is a bizarre, possibly autistic complaint. Who fucking cares? "This game is called Grand Theft Auto, why am I doing things other than stealing cars???" It's the name of a game series that everyone recognizes, should they always change it to match the name of the main villain?

the dude monk priest who rides off on a broken horse basically says we have to prevent the final heaven/hell fight which means we have to fight both sides guaranteed. Cuck for Diablo harder

Loot isn't shared so everything you see and get is only for you.

Players deal and receive damage related to a monster based on what they would around their level regardless of the party average/highest level.
Do not think of it as a level 1 dealing 10 damage to a 100 health wolf and a level 25 dealing 100 damage to a 1000 health wolf, but 10% and 10% to a shared 100%. Same goes for damage received.

As for my opinions on the game, I've finished the beta and simply found it really mediocre and dull.

I'm not familiar with this leak do we have a link?

I'm a sucker for BS quests if maybe there's an interesting lore tidbit out of it.

That's... disappointing. I don't really like that. I also saw that drop rates were increased for the beta. I hope they don't dial it back too hard.

This is incredibly confusing. Were MMOs always designed this way or is it just a new concept? How do you even plan against that?

This is incredibly confusing.
I might be making it sound more confusing and weird than it is, the level 25 sees that he is fighting a level 25 wolf and the level 1 sees that he is fighting a level 1 wolf.
It's just a really weird smoke-and-mirrors approach of dynamic level scaling.

I can't actually think of any game that ever did this, most just downscale you to the lowest party level or don't do any scaling at all.

It's the level scaling system that World of Warcraft is currently using. It's pretty wonky and leads to all sorts of strange scaling issues where low level characters will end up way stronger than high level ones or alternatively some content will just become impossible based on your level range. WoW has gotten it mostly figured out so it doesn't feel too unbalanced, but whenever they add new content to the scaling system it causes havoc.

If I can get 20-30 hours of entertainment from this game I'll be happy. $80 is a single nights dinner for two nowadays...

Anyway, I'm enjoying the beta so far. I don't give two shits about the story and would consider myself a very casual gamer, but I'm entertained.

The boss fights suck. More D3-WoW bullshit. A million circles on the floor don't step in them or you get damaged and slowed or whatever. Warning boxes and circles on the ground this is where the boss is gonna do some big attack next. Why can't we have nice clean boss fights where you actually fight the boss instead of spending 75% of the time dodging in and out of and around and past shapes on the ground. I'm so tired of the THIS PART OF THE FLOOR IS LAVA, NOW THIS PART IS, NOW THOSE PARTS ARE boss fight design

The writing sucks

Played a necro to level 20.
Pros
-Environment detail is really good in some places.
-character creator is cool if you are in to that
-Some classic sounds made it back in

Cons
- Itemization is completely uninspired percentage based garbage. 5% more here, 3% more there. Boring.
- Spell effects don't really match the tone or environment they are going for.
- story is predictable and boring and Nayrelle will be leah 2.0. This wouldn't be a problem but there are so many damn cut scenes.
- why am I mining rocks and picking plants in Diablo

I will say this, it was a weird feeling playing the game. I wasn't getting the dopamine hits like you get in D2 when an upgrade drops or you gain a level and get a new skill. I was just kind of in a stupor as I ran around aimlessly spamming corpse explosion. I wasn't getting "wow" factor for this $70 game.

I have a feeling the MTX they have planned for this game are going to be providing those highlight moments, and if you don't shell out for the battle pass and other shit you are going to get a shell of a game.
