You need a socially acceptable animal for the animals to eat, both omnivores and carnivores. Contrary to what Gretchin Thunderberg says, maggots won't cut it regarding proteins, so having fish be non-sapient solves thorny issues that an all-ages work like Zootopia didn't want to touch. They could have gone with a magical tofu thing that seemingly fixes the craving of carnivores too (like Back to the Dawn goes), but this one was easier. If you don't do either, you end up with a Beastars situation where carnivores slowly but surely starve until they snap and inevitably eat someone, and then the whole co-existence message falls to pieces because it literally can't work without killing a part of the population*. Funnily enough, the fish of BS were aware of the situation and willingly sacrificed themselves for that matter.Something that isn't a big deal but I'm slightly autistic about that frustrated me was the fact they confirmed that fish and insects are literally just fish and insects in the universe, used for food with no souls like the other animals.
I'm pretty sure everything you typed out here is the plot of Beastars. Mostly. You need a socially acceptable animal for the animals to eat, both omnivores and carnivores. *Even better, there was the implication of a hidden herbivore cabal that purposely made each generation of carnivores dumber to make them easier to control.
"we were just playing"Like with X-Men, making animal people societies into allegories for real-life prejudice always comes across as jarring since some innate characteristics are potentially more dangerous than others in these stories. In X-Men, you have characters who could easily genocide all non-mutants if they wanted to. This makes it far more justifiable to restrict the freedom of such individuals for the safety of mankind.
In the world of Zootopia, a lion could go postal in Little Rodentia and easily massacre hundreds before police intervene. The same can not be said about a mouse attacking a neighborhood of predators. In such a setting, systemic discrimination is arguably a necessity to keep the physically inept from being harmed. Species are already effectively segregated by habitat, so there might as well be town checkpoints barring entry for specific groups if they lack permits.
Wasn't it bojackk horsemen that had it where carnivore animal people and humans eat all the animal people who are born so retarded that the only thing they're good for is feeding the meat eating populace? You need a socially acceptable animal for the animals to eat, both omnivores and carnivores. Well the villians are the ancestors of the guy who the city of zootopia sees as a hero for founding the city only to discover he was really a scumbag backstabber and guilty of murder.A friend told me the movie was less pro-immigration and was more about revisionist history, which sounds surprising given Disney's current track record. Anything backing that up?
Pretty much. But I guess they wanted to muddy the waters further than find a stopping point. I favor "selective sentience" of certain mammal species personally.Honestly, they should have gone the route of having only MAMMALS be sentient. Have every other animal be food or pet.

Typical it'll go there next.Watched Zootopia 2, really enjoyed it. Hope the inevitable third film is as good.
Actual spoilers: It's birds next time.
Pretty much.Yeah it's about the Lynx family taking credit for the snake character's grandma inventing the weather walls that make Zootopia habitable for all species. The grandfather of the family killed his maid with a fang device of sorts and blamed it on Granny Snake, hence why reptiles had to go into hiding. A big part of the movie is the Lynx family trying to expand their territory.
Given the movie broke records it's now only a matter of time, will disney pressure the makers into making zootopia 3 as soon as possible without waiting another ten years or so?Actual spoilers: It's birds next time
Good question there, depending how long that might take.Given the movie broke records it's now only a matter of time, will disney pressure the makers into making zootopia 3 as soon as possible without waiting another ten years or so?
Bad guys 3 is definitely gonna be a thing, but DreamWorks unlike Disney has gone to 3 before. If Zootopia 3 does get green it'll be the correction second time any of the Disney cannon has crossed that mark.Good question there, depending how long that might take.
True.Bad guys 3 is definitely gonna be a thing, but DreamWorks unlike Disney has gone to 3 before. If Zootopia 3 does get green lit it'll be the first time any of the Disney cannon has crossed that mark.
Lord knows I'll be a recipient of something. They set up for a zootopia 3 at the end of 2. so it seems like it WILL happen eventually the only question is will it be before most of us kiwis (or anyone who saw the original) are collecting pensions and social security checks?
I thought Frozen 3 had already been greenlit ages ago, given how massive of a merchandising juggernaut that series was.Bad guys 3 is definitely gonna be a thing, but DreamWorks unlike Disney has gone to 3 before.
