That may be but there's a hell of a lot of stuff I think should be on there and apparently won't be. With such a big library, especially now, why not take even more advantage of it?

I'd love to see more stuff from their animation archives. If the classic cartoons were on there, and their old 90s shows - not just the Disney Afternoon shows, but the One Saturday Morning stuff, and even the Fox Kids shows they've owned for years and do nothing with (who doesn't want to see The Tick again?) ... then I'd be interested.
I'd love to see the educational films they put out in the 70's and 80's myself.

Sadly I feel they're only gonna appeal to the current mainstream audience's interests, so a lot of Starvel and current Disney movies / shows, but don't expect Walt Disney's Disneyland, Vault Disney or the Wonderful World of Color in there.
And that's the REAL Disney most of us care about.

Just because they're largely forgettable (and not good) doesn't mean they're not there, and that it's not their main output.
Someone out there loved The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes!

Not gonna lie. That's an impressive amount of content for $7 a month. And this will finally end that bullshit vaulting process.
I doubt it. It'll probably still happen. Subscribe now to see that TV show you watch as a kid cause we'll be takening it down at the end of the month/quarter/year and who know's when it'll be back up. I doubt Disney will keep all their content up carte blanche. I bet most of it will be their modern films/shows plus a fuck ton of fox properties. The original Walt films will be up at launch but I'm willing to be some of it will be taken down sooner or later to rotate more content in.

And if you go to that film's page, it'll say its not up, BUT you can get it if you're subscribbed to Club Disney (49.99 anually) and then you have to buy the MOD DVD/Bluray for $35.

I wouldn't doubt this one bit if it happened.

Here's the first preview of Lady and the Tramp's Live Action remake:

Guess I'll have to watch the second season of Jessica Jones before :unholy: Disney :unholy: pulls it off Nutflix then (which sucks, because it's one of the few Capeshit films/series I like), plus a billion of other things

Lol, they've straight up stolen the Netflix interface.

Oh wow I hope this doesn't lead to a surge in the talking dogs genre

I watched Lilo and Stitch for the first time today, and man. What happened to that? Like, letting creative people just do their thing? Imagine if they were that hands-off today, instead we have very talented artists just recreate Lion King shot for shot with CGI.

I recently watched it for the first time in many years (after only having seen it once when I was about six) and it’s such a fun film. If Disney wanted to, they could no doubt make something like that again. But no, instead we’re getting a gorillion cash grab live action remakes which will probably be forgotten about in a few decades. Seriously, how often do you see people talk about the 1994 remake of The Jungle Book or the 101 and 102 Dalmatians films?

Remember when 102 Dalmatians came out? Disney was heavily pushing it that year - merchandise and kids' meals and all that - and it didn't do very well. Disney released The Emperor's New Groove around the same time, and despite the fact that they were trying to bury that film (because it was a comedy) it proved a hell of a lot more popular. Needless to say, the former's long forgotten but the latter's still beloved...

The moral, I guess, is that art can persevere.

Yes, I vaguely recall how there was a lot of 102 dalmatians merch that just abruptly disappeared after a while. And despite not having seen any of the films you mentioned, I vividly remember seeing the trailer for The Emperor's New Groove... meanwhile, whatever memories I once had of the live action version of the 101 dalmatians have completely vanished into the ether, and I know I saw that one sometime when I was in preschool. That says a lot.

I know of Disney lolcows who hate Lilo and Stitch / Emperor because the characters are "unlikable" but love the tar out of the remakes and more corporate driven films like Frozen.

So, you know, Disney is appealing to those people. If it's safe and easy to do, Disney will make it.

Funny enough the original Lion King was also very hands off because they wanted Pocahontas to be their big movie to finally succeed where Beauty and the Beast failed and pick up that Oscar for Best Picture. The Lion King was just meant to be this cheap filler so they would have something in-between Pocahontas and Aladdin. As history now knows, their super try-hard ultimate movie fell completely flat while The Lion King became not just a beloved movie, but the highest grossing animate movie for almost 20 years.

Also the reason why there aren't any more movies like Lilo and Stitch is that Chris Sanders was fired because John Lasseter obviously hates his writing style Bolt was too "quirky". I suspect recent successes like Wreck-It Ralph and Zootopia were because, furry fandom aside, upper management mostly left them alone because they were focused on Frozen and Moana.

Didn't help they scared Chris Sanders away after he tried to make another movie.

And yet plenty of us thought American Dog had potential.

I could understand how Wreck-It Ralph and Zootopia managed to slip through the cracks like that.

I think they let Chris Sanders get away with doing what he wanted to Lilo & Stitch because Stitch had marketability, and he had a good hand in Mulan's story turning out the way it did. I don't know who was behind the marketing for that film, but it was fucking brilliant, and it's become one of their biggest cash-cow franchises since the Disney princesses (though I'm still a contender of the belief they threw Lilo & Stitch under the bus to give Spirited Away the Oscar). I don't know, maybe Disney wasn't thrilled with the idea, but I guess they were too focused on Atlantis to really care although they didn't have faith in Treasure Planet despite it being written and directed by some of their biggest and most successful people, but it's a really amazing movie that shouldn't have killed their roots in 2D animation.

I dunno, I guess the shitshow behind Emperor's New Groove was the final straw for Disney if it wasn't Treasure Planet itself, leading to that dark period of the mid-2000s where Disney struggled to find their style in CGI.

I'm pretty fond of the 2000s movies. Sure, they weren't perfect, but at least they were trying something new and different. Sometimes it succeeded (Lilo), sometimes it didn't (Brother Bear), but it's much better than the current age we're in of "CGI minority single Marvel Sue princesses with plot twist villains" of Disney.

I love Lilo, and like a lot Fantasia 2000. There's a lot of good stuff in Treasure Planet, too, and Emperor is funny. You gotta give them credit for trying different styles and genres for a while.

Perhaps if they had kept in some of those deleted scenes, it might've gave them a shot.

So I found that a new hire where I work also works at Disneyland. She’s dreading the day galaxy’s edge opens. I’m gonna ask her for any upcoming park insights.

Dreading it, eh? It is because of the crowds, or are there going to be some pay cuts? I get it the cast members are basically in a personal hell working at Disneyland, but it sounds like Galaxy's Edge's grand opening is doomsday.

Most likely both. She seems to enjoy working there but... she’s just a mid level cast member. The real money is in the engineering and entertainment aspects. The area was not designed for the heavy traffic its going to see. At the moment theres a shit ton of refurbishment going on that will make everywhere else tighter. They’ve gone as far as removing planters for more space but that’ll be pointless when the time comes.
I heard it was hell when pandora opened in WDW. This will just be the seventh level.
