DOOM

I have to admit Eternal's honeymoon period wore off quite quickly for me. There's just so much going on it gets exhausting trying to balance the mechanics and only being able to play the way the game wants you to. Plus the story is just pure cringe, 2016 did it right by having lore that was in the background, not Doomguy quoting a line from the comic and audiologs of a scientist practically having an orgasm over how amazing you are.
Can't agree enough on the cringe that creeped into Eternal for whatever reason. At the end of the day it is no deal breaker because Eternal still offers me a challenging, satisfying gameplay experience.

What I do miss about the ye old days of boomer shooters is the fact that higher difficulties packed more enemies in a level and you had to overcome those odds stacked against you, instead of now where the enemy count stays the same but they are just more aggressive and deal more damage.
 
Does anyone find it insane to imagine that doom.wads go so far back that even the columbine shooters have made their own doom.wads? Havent played them myself but I wonder how good they were at level making.

I did. They were amateurish, like 99% of doom wads are.UAC Labs was fine,not the worst but it was alright to play through. Eric really liked secrets tho.Then again this is probably my fault for being spoiled by playing good doom wads. But what stood out from UAC Lab was the deathmatch maps, both dudes seemed to really really enjoy that mode,like adding in custom texts and sound effects.

There were more singleplayer maps but Eric Harris never wanted to share any of his wads on the net since he'd want to be in control on sharing them. Plus the Feds already took his computer after he had done the deed. Only 5 DM maps and 1 singleplayer one.

Kinda makes me think that if they decided against murdering their fellow students and just stuck to only making Doom maps they might end up as good mappers Ah who am I kidding they already had unchecked issues from the get-go and had some hate boners for the jock culture. I am also sure Eric would've been perma-banned from Troonworld for reasons.

Doom would be old enough to be considered legal at this point.

Hell, some of my favourite pWADs date back to like, 1995. (Requeim was still a fun romp, and they were one of the first megawads to set the bar high in terms of aesthetics).
 
What would be the best way to experience the doom classics for the zoomer delicate palate to enjoy?
I tried running the original WADs on some version of gzdoom but it looks off somehow.

You can change up settings in GZDoom to make it look and play as close to vanilla as possible, but the next best thing would be source ports like Chocolate Doom or PrBoom+.

Note that GZDoom by default uses shit like texture filtering/smoothing so that's one of the first things you should turn off ASAP.
 
So I finally got around to finishing Doom Eternal after not touching it for about half a year.

Honestly I think my opinion has kinda turned around on it. It's a bad sequel to Doom 2016, but a really fun game in its own right once you actually learn the mechanics. The main thing I still think is outright bad are the dumb platforming sections which feel completely out of place with the rest of the game loop.
 
Are you going to play the ancient gods. That's a whole different can o worms.
Just started a Nightmare run (my first run was Hurt Me Plenty) so that I could "properly" experience the game, now that I had a grasp on what to do/expect and which weapons I liked using. I'll probably play the DLC once I finish the game on Nightmare. So far I've just beaten the Doom Hunter and the only area that gave me a significant roadblock was one of the arena fights in Cultist Base that just never seemed to end.

Saw some vids of it. Clearly goes the same road as LCA+Clusterfuck, bbyt the author doesn't even hide it.
Also was quite surprised seeing my sprite works here. An unexpected event, though a welcomed one.

I was actually just asking about the spriting thing in their discord (which is infact the same discord as LCA+Clusterfuck which the mod comes with).
what exactly did you work on, if i may ask?
 
one of the enemies looks, although it's all archaic set of sprites I'd rather not name the exact specimen because I feel a slight bit of a shame.

Also you shouldnt be afraid your past inferior works, you should look at them with pride with how far you've come from them.
