Got a question for any DotA heads in here. Is there some archive somewhere of all the WC3 map versions of DotA that were released by Guinsoo and beyond?
I've been playing alot of WC3 custom games with my group of friends recently and we went back to play some old DotA patches. I started playing sometime back in 2004, and I stopped playing DotA in 2016. I thought it'd be fun for us to go through some of the very old versions that some of us would have nostalgia for, but also to kinda experience the development of the game over time as we played through the patches. I was able to find version 5.57 and I figured for fun we'd play that patch for a few days, then move onto the next one and so on. People were into the idea - and with how well documented every single change and version is on the liquipedia dota versions page, I thought there would be an archive of all these versions somewhere since each listed version on that liquipedia page has every single change and even a transcript of the readme files that came with them, but I literally just can't find them anywhere. I was lucky enough to find version 5.57, but I can't find anything between it and 6.07. Epicwar.com has pretty much most of the IceFrog versions from 6.07 onward until his last update to WC3 at version 6.83, but I really can't find anything online of the Guinsoo era, primarily 5.0-6.0.
Does anyone know of any places that might have the .w3x files for the Guinsoo version 5 era, or is that stuff just kinda lost media at this point? I've looked around online for awhile, but I just can't find anything. A thread of info I was trying to follow was the fact that the 5.57 readme says to visit rtsgames.com/dota for updates on new game versions, but it's only available on internet archive now, and it always redirects back to the "you need to register page". I cannot for the life of me remember if I ever had an account on this forum and I don't remember what it was if I did, so even if logging in through wayback machine actually worked, I'd never be able to pull it off to see if I can find the old DotA v5 versions on it. I'll keep up my search and if I find something substantial that answers my own question, I'll update, but if anyone else knows anything, it'd be really cool to know since while I don't play modern DotA, I've played alot of it in the WC3 days and pre DotA 7.XX days, and I'd really love to have an archive of the development of the game in the form of it's maps in WC3.
Edit: As far as the search goes, I did find an archive of all of the versions of the game from 3.0a-4.0beta1. I figured I could try to trace this directory back and see if there's other stuff archived there for later versions, but I couldn't find anything.
Thanks for reading and let me know if you think there's some other places I could try asking or contacting for more info on this kind of stuff.
