DOTA 2

Got a question for any DotA heads in here. Is there some archive somewhere of all the WC3 map versions of DotA that were released by Guinsoo and beyond?

I've been playing alot of WC3 custom games with my group of friends recently and we went back to play some old DotA patches. I started playing sometime back in 2004, and I stopped playing DotA in 2016. I thought it'd be fun for us to go through some of the very old versions that some of us would have nostalgia for, but also to kinda experience the development of the game over time as we played through the patches. I was able to find version 5.57 and I figured for fun we'd play that patch for a few days, then move onto the next one and so on. People were into the idea - and with how well documented every single change and version is on the liquipedia dota versions page, I thought there would be an archive of all these versions somewhere since each listed version on that liquipedia page has every single change and even a transcript of the readme files that came with them, but I literally just can't find them anywhere. I was lucky enough to find version 5.57, but I can't find anything between it and 6.07. Epicwar.com has pretty much most of the IceFrog versions from 6.07 onward until his last update to WC3 at version 6.83, but I really can't find anything online of the Guinsoo era, primarily 5.0-6.0.

Does anyone know of any places that might have the .w3x files for the Guinsoo version 5 era, or is that stuff just kinda lost media at this point? I've looked around online for awhile, but I just can't find anything. A thread of info I was trying to follow was the fact that the 5.57 readme says to visit rtsgames.com/dota for updates on new game versions, but it's only available on internet archive now, and it always redirects back to the "you need to register page". I cannot for the life of me remember if I ever had an account on this forum and I don't remember what it was if I did, so even if logging in through wayback machine actually worked, I'd never be able to pull it off to see if I can find the old DotA v5 versions on it. I'll keep up my search and if I find something substantial that answers my own question, I'll update, but if anyone else knows anything, it'd be really cool to know since while I don't play modern DotA, I've played alot of it in the WC3 days and pre DotA 7.XX days, and I'd really love to have an archive of the development of the game in the form of it's maps in WC3.

Edit: As far as the search goes, I did find an archive of all of the versions of the game from 3.0a-4.0beta1. I figured I could try to trace this directory back and see if there's other stuff archived there for later versions, but I couldn't find anything.

Thanks for reading and let me know if you think there's some other places I could try asking or contacting for more info on this kind of stuff.

Copied him and used the fantasy guide I listed, currently above the 95th percentile and eligible for free arcana. Though I'm not going to celebrate until it's concluded.

New predictions are up till tommorow, here's the resources to help with them if anyone needs them:

The International 2025 has concluded and here is our winner:

Team Falcons wins 3-2 over Xtreme Gaming!

Cr1t finally has a TI win, Aui_2k is now a 3-time TI champion as a Player/Coach (EG in 2015 as a player, Tundra in 2022 and now Falcons in 2025 as a Coach), AMMAR THE FUCKER is a TI CHAMPION, and Skiter and Sneyking are also 2-time TI Champions!

Sadly, the China TI and Ame Game 5 curses will still continue.

i just noticed Jenkins looks exactly like Keffals. They're both canadians too. is there something in the canadian watter supply?

To be fair Jenkins also did come out in a wife beater to do a spot on Freddie Mercury lookalike. Odd kid, that Jenkins.

Is there any actively played mod that implements some of the older patches of the game, especially before 7.00? I would like to play the game the way I remember it and the current iteration changes way too many things for my liking.

You might be able to find something like that in DOTA 2's arcade but it's pretty unlikely to have a reasonable number of active players, unless you have enough friends to fill up the game. If you want to play old DOTA, your best bet is buying wacraft 3 and playing the OG DOTA Allstars

it's crazy how effective abaddon is in every role, but at this point i'm convinced he's the best support bar none. Lane too hard to do anything? Max Q and just let your carry get slapped, and if they throw CC down just use a level 1 shield. your carry will hurt, but it's not like they'll die, and they can still contest farm as if the lane wasn't a complete shit storm? are you winning the lane? Put one point in curse and just run them down. You only really need 1 item too. Once the holy locket is secured your healing is just too much and the active can just sustain you as necessary.

My last game I outhealed the enemy carry's damage and I think I even outtanked the enemy offlaner.

When I think the best supports. I think heroes that completely change a team fight like witch doctor or warlock. Or lockdown heroes like Bane or Shadow shaman. Or middle of the ground of those like Lion. Abaddon is good, but he can be squishy, can be ignored, and has counters.

Everyone has counters. If they’re going for Abaddon counters when he’s the five they have already messed up. If you manage to get 1-2 aphotic shields down on whoever the enemy team is targeting you just win the fight. If they decide to target you it’s just a matter of ensuring your ult gets off and letting your cores do free damage. In order to prevent the ult going off they have to
  • Silence you so you cannot activate it
  • Break you so it does not auto trigger
  • Nuke you so it does not auto trigger.
  • Use CC and ignore you while it is active
  • Prevent your healing somehow
Few teams manage to accomplish any two of these things at the same time. If you are eating the enemies break or nuke instead of your carry you are winning your team the game. If they’re blowing silences and forced to save euls for when you ult you are winning your team the game. If your cores can’t figure out how to fuck up an AA that’s on them. If he has to save the ult to ensure you: the five can’t heal then you are winning the game. Lion and shaman are ten times squishier than Abaddon. Bane is countered by Linkens or a stun, something anyone can buy for 2k gold. You need a *team* to stop Abaddon.

Notable Dota 2 streamer ChiLongQua has been streaming again increasingly erratically. Yesterday he deleted a stream and wiped all clips after this rant to avoid a Twitch ban:

Here's an archive of his most recent stream.

In it he seems paranoid as he talks about running out of time and 'getting got'. He lists problems in the 'shit world' that need fixing, before fixating on "exposing the Dalai Lama" using AI image generation and video editing for the rest of the stream.

If you are interested in keeping up with the latest goings on in the Long Qua Dynasty I recommend archive channel ClownItDown.
