i've been reading through it looking for bits of gold because i'm writing a schizo chatbot and it's... it's not really readable. it's seriously unhinged and any salient point he brings up (and he does bring up a lot of them) is sandwiched between paragraphs upon paragraphs of repetition, bizarre stream-of-consciousness nonsense, abject violence, and bizarre misogyny. and when i say salient point, i mean that there's a lot of very sharp 'hot take' tweets because none of it is really constructed into a narrative.
he's clearly trying to say something about how black americans need to actually create their own social institutions and their own culture to uplift themselves to the standards that the black lives matter grifters hold themselves to, and he's VERY upset about it. it's obvious that he was tormented by the dissonance between the lip service that woke academia, the media, and shitlibs give minorities and the completely hollow self-righteous narcissism of most black activism. i can't really give him any credit for that since it's obvious to anyone looking at the situation from the outside and like 90% of the manifesto is straight from the maw of violent insanity but at least it's funny sometimes

- UCPD pinged his cell phone, revealing he was in Boulder, CO. This was in the middle of the night, and referenced in one of his emails.
- Unstable behavior began in January 2021. Emails his mother about his plans to kill a UCI and Duke professor.
- March 2021, emails mother again, threatening to harm himself.
- March 30, 2021, UCPD alerted to behavior when 20 emails sent to female students, placed on investigatory leave later that day.
- April 2021, shows up to mother's house in NC, threatens her and her cat. Mother has to sleep with a knife next to her (cat in room), in fear of him. He allegedly shoved her.
- UCPD urged that she seek to have him involuntarily committed (a psych hold). He was hospitalized for a month in NC, but then returns to LA.
- May 2021, UCPD requested a Gun Violence Emergency Protective Order to prohibit him from going to an UC campuses. This protective order went into national criminal background check databases and is what caused him to be denied a gun purchase in Colorado BACKGROUND CHECKS WORK
- Summer 2021, he moved to Colorado, after a schizophrenia diagnosis from when he was involuntarily committed.

According to his indictment, Matthew was at his parent's house when he was served papers to involuntarily commit him to a mental institution in April 2021. The address listed: 8301 Wessex Dr. Stokesdale, NC
Looks classy. If he grew up in the hood, his parents got money and moved up and out of there.
ETA: The address associated with his failed attempt to buy a gun, also on the indictment, puts him at 955 Broadway, Boulder, CO 80302, just across the street from CU Boulder. Rentals in that location can't be cheap. Where's the money coming from, Matthew?

This manifesto makes Terry's worst rants look sane, holy shit. The whole thing is a wonderful cocktail of schizoid paranoia, Nasneedic African-American Exceptionalism and Elliot Rodger levels of entitlement and inferiority complexes.
This whole treatise is a fascinating peek into the psyche of someone who's gone completely fucking batty. Scholars could spend years deciphering the more cryptic passages. It's pretty evident that he didn't write the whole text in one go, but instead likely added large chunks over the course of God knows how many mental lapses, and even went back and revised earlier parts. You can see it with the lower case 'efricans' interjected into all caps rants, and he does it with 'Nigger' alot of times as well.
My theory is that he initially wrote 'NIGGA', as the initial letter is still capitalized in the corrected versions and the word still fits in the meaning of the sentence. I'm guessing that, during some later breakdown, he realized that he had been wrong in spelling the word that way and went back and changed all instances of it. There's a whole part where he explains his reasoning for using 'NIGGER' and it reads like a series of commands which could be read as being addressed in both the second and third person. It's possible that this is an admonishment of his past self, not just his fellow NIGGER, for failing to use the correct name to refer to themselves.
I skimmed through his dissertation and while I don't think it's PhD level, he clearly isn't a dunce either. There's some sloppy prose and spelling and the whole subject and method is rather ludicrous, but that might say more about his field and the university than it does about him. Affirmative action very likely was a factor in his elevation, but not to the extent some people in this thread are making it out to be. He doesn't seem like a retard, his dissertation definitely shows a college level understanding of writing, albeit more Bachelor level than anything deserving of an educational position.
The more depressing answer for how he got so high is that he isn't an aberration and Philosophy sets a low bar academically in general, even by the standards of the Humanities.

Because it's not like he's crazy 24/7. Schizophrenics switch between lucid and manic states, and the latter tend to manifest and become worse over time. From what we know of him from his pre-2019 lecturing stint he seemed like a spergy guy, but nothing exceptional. It's only in the last two years that he starts to spiral out of control and incidents began to escalate in rapid succession, possibly worsened by covid and new job stress. Ten or five years ago he probably wasn't anywhere near as bad, or could at least manage his symptoms better.

look, universities have been heavily incentivizing people to parrot critical theory and that shit legitimately rots your brain. it's a wretched framework of ideology that forgoes any type of real progressive intent for the conceit that tearing down what currently exists is somehow progressive, even if you don't have the faintest clue what to do after you criticize it to death. there is nothing substantive to it beyond finding verbose ways to poke holes in existing narratives by constructing elaborate and exciting falsehoods, it gets people who don't have any sort of real basis or structure to their value system to go "that sounds edgy and smart!"
it's the reason you have people espousing absolute insanity in positions of authority that make you wonder how the fuck they got in that position, and it's because schools and corporations have been financially and organizationally incentivized to feed the beast for like twenty years. there's no structure in place to second guess these people's ideas or actions beyond a weak litmus test that basically amounts to 'would your boomer dad agree with this'
all you have to do is talk the talk because there is no walk, and the vast majority of people simply aren't capable of doing more than walking a line, can't handle the ideological friction that causes, or get imposter syndrome because they get applauded for doing what they consider to be a bad job. it selects for a very specific brand of crazy that's usually malicious or incompetent.

Dollars to doughnuts, half the people spouting CRT aren't even serious about it, and they're only doing it to get cred with the universities, but behind closed doors, they still use curse words and racial jokes left and right. Dr. Harris is just one case where the mask utterly slipped, and we saw what a good number of these CRT-types truly think about society.
Still, I suppose it really isn't that unrealisitc that there are people who are eager to earn a good living by spouting off nonsense. It's horribly immoral, but hey, you get to live in a nice house and buy almost anything you want. It's a modern-day Faustian bargain, promote ideologies that escalate racial hatred and social unrest, and you get your chunk of money, not to mention live in a nice home.

If you're a PHD holder making only 58k a year at UCLA you definitely haven't "made it", fuck, that's not even successful in california terms. It's a decent living for a single guy in most non-crazy states but not anything to write home about, and definitely not something a post doc should aspire to make.
If you told me any teaching staff at UCLA only made $58k, I'd think you were mistaken. That's such a low amount of money to be in a college city, much less a Californian college city.
