There's a balance when it comes to incorporating progressive elements. The first season of the revival got it right, as did the next few seasons that followed. You keep it light, you keep it fun. The more heavy handed "messages" started to creep in later in Moffat's run and it hasn't really gotten any better since.
I like Nctui and his interpretation of The Doctor, but I'm probably not going to feel anything when the character regenerates tonight. That's sad considering, at least going by this thread, that I've had more of a positive opinion towards this latest season than most.
