Scanner - My Lost Love Hunting Your Lost Face

The sonic template for Radiohead's 'How to Disappear Completely' and much of Burial's oeuvre. At this period of his career Scanner was signed to Earache records - a label more associated with metal.

Add N to (x) - Revenge of the Black Regent

Gonzo synth oscillations with some baroque elements thrown in. Berserk drumming. Some great background wailing courtesy of Alison Goldfrapp.

France’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest this year was a banger, I’m genuinely surprised they came second to last (even if I am kinda glad because I mean, they are French 🤢)

Also when I listened to Aura by Lady Gaga for the first time I was like “wow, this is an infected mushroom type beat” and then I looked at the lyrics on Genius recently and found that the reason it sounds like an Infected Mushroom type beat is that they did actually make the beat. So that’s cool. Definitely my favourite Gaga song.

There’s actually a demo version of the track without Gaga in it on YouTube. They sampled Special Place from Vicious Delicious at the end of that version, which I thought was pretty fun.

I cannot believe nobody has mentioned Tangerine Dream, yet.

They are a band from Europe, with their members being from various countries in Central Europe.

They are an art rock band and they formed in the early-1970's as part of the Krautrock movement of the late 1960's/early 1970's. Their signature sound is that of either Stygian electronic suites or fast-paced precursors to what is now known as "synthwave" before it had a name. What is interesting with most of their material is that it is almost entirely instrumental. They also made quite a few movie soundtracks.

As they have made a lot if albums over the years, it is hard to pinpoint where to start, so I will highlight some of my favorite albums. Still, nothing good lasts forever, and so their last good album was Lily on the Beach which came out in 1989. They had a major member lineup change after that and then they degenerated into new age jazz.

Tangerine Dream - Alpha Centauri (1971)

Tangerine Dream - Stratosfear (1976)

Tangerine Dream -Sorcerer (1977, this is a movie soundtrack for the film of the same name. It is well worth watching as well)

Tangerine Dream - Le Parc (1985)

Tangerine Dream - Lily on the Beach (1989)

Sublab is one of my favorite producers at the moment. He's really found his own sound in the last couple years. Hardwave with some of the crispiest cleanest bass and some more laid back stuff as well.
SHXPE has been releasing some nasty tracks too.

Might as well share this guy. Found his stuff a few months ago and it basically took over my most listened on Spotify. Don't know how to describe his music other than really glitchy neuro.
Sadly hasn't produced much music the past two years, as he's been making NFTs. They're actually fairly high quality audiovisual stuff, but still...

This might be an acquired taste for some people. People either like it or done.
You could probably release this song it may still sound fresh.

Here is another older electronic musician that some people may not have heard of.

The late Isao Tomita, who simply went by the name "Tomita" was a Japanese solo artist who did a lot of instrumental stuff with Moog synthesizers and was very popular world wide during his heyday of the 1970's. He did both original pieces as well as electronica versions of classical music.

His technical skill with both analog and early digital equipment was amazing, and he has received numerous awards over the years. Still, he did tend to fly under the radar for many people as he was notoriously shy in person and so rarely let himself be interviewed.

Here is some of his best stuff in my opinion...

Tomita - Snowflakes are Dancing (album, 1974)

Tomita - Ravel album (album, 1979)

LEViT∆TE's music is cool, started listening to his stuff a few months ago. Kinda slowed down but it's definitely right up my alley. I mostly listened to the Collapse EP and his album.

I actually had a pretty similar experience to you this year:
Quok is one of my favorite artists right now. He has a ton of songs, but has covered quite a range of styles and nails a lot of them in my opinion.
Though I’ve been listening to his music occasionally for a little over a year, I became really obsessed this summer, to the point where he could’ve easily been my #1 artist on my Spotify Wrapped if it counted the whole year instead of only January to October.
I’m pretty surprised at how underrated he is, since he had a collab with Culprate and his most popular track, Atariwave, has a few million views on YouTube.
Highly recommend listening to the Intervals album, it's very good and has a lot of variety.

He hasn't released anything on this alias since 2019, as he's been making Russian-language music as Куок. A decent amount of music is very electronic-influenced in the production (he's his own producer for most of his stuff) but it just isn't the same. Apparently more Quok music is in the works, but it's been a while.

There is also Klaus Schulze who was one of the founding members of Tangerine Dream before he embarked on a solo career during the early-1970's.

Cyborg (Album, 1973, this album version also contains But Beautiful, a bonus track added in the 1978 edition of the album)

Timewind (Album, 1975)

Dreams (Album, 1986)

Spacious, electronic takes on an old chestnut

If you're Canadian. You may have remembered this song.

Same with this one too.

And this one.
