Elliot Page / Ellen Page - Former actress, starred in Juno. Turned into a pooner and divorced her wife because being a lesbian was not boosting her career anymore. Receives a daily dose of asspatting from Hollywood. Likes to show off her "male" body using fake abdominals.

I hate to be that person, but... Couldn't he found more Mediterranean looking actors and actresses? I'm not saying Greek specifically, or even Mediterraneans, just that they'd look that part enough. Yeah, you could say this literature is part of Western culture and it's not real so what does it matter etc. etc., but I still think it's better to match the actors (by looks) to the original culture it came from... Also, you know, more masculine men and such? This is ancient Greek... It's not like the actors he chose are so good they are irreplaceable or something...

Forget it Jake, it's Current Year.

Expecting Nolan to not cast homely woman and Habsburg jawed bugmen lmao (Prestige doesn't count, Bales batman looked weird)

I don't think Nolan knows how people outside of LA offices look like. Anyway, it's going to be shit and win every academy award there is.

Trojan era Hellenes were Dorians and Achaeans, they wouldn't have looked like modern Greeks.
They certainly weren't 5'1" Pooners.
They weren't swarthy, well the Trojans possibly because they were kin to the Hittites, but not the Greeks.
The actress who played Helen in the Brad Pitt Troy movie was a pretty good fit. Helen of Troy was a Spartan (Sparta at the time wasn't the militaristic Sparta of Leonidas, this was before Lycurgus's reforms).

My bad. I have little knowledge about the history of ancient Greek and naively assumed they would look like contemporary Greeks, more or less. Also haven't read the Odyssey yet, shamefully, but I did loan it from the library lately after deciding I have to get more cultured (the decision wasn't related to Nolan's movie, I swear!). Thanks for the info (and for not being shitty about my ignorance...). Always good to learn.

Log off and read it now. It’s an amazing insight into how we’re so different from our ancestors but yet so similar. It’s a fantastic story.
Seconded. I think everyone should read that story at least once.
Read the Illiad first. I guess you could skip it if you prefer adventure, the Illiad is one long (sometimes extremely graphic lol) description of Mycenean Age combat. I think it and the Odyssey complement each other. The Odyssey is by far the more exciting story though.

The cast so far is:

Men/pooner
  • Tom Holland 28yo
  • Himesh Patel 34yo
  • Elliot Page 37yo
  • Robert Pattinson 38yo
  • Benny Safdie 38yo
  • John Bernthal 48yo
  • Matt Damon 54yo
  • John Leguizamo 64yo
  • Bill irwin 74yo
Women
  • Zendaya 28yo
  • Lupita Nyongo 41yo
  • Anne Hatheway 42yo
  • Samantha Morton 47yo
  • Charlize Theron 49yo
I reckon Telemachus is probably being played by Tom.
I have no idea who Odysseus will be. Matt seems like a weird pick to me but Robert seems way too young.

Oh I forgot about Hermes. Maybe that's Page's role? If not it might be Tom's and then Robert would be Telemachus.
Holy shit that is some AIDS casting

We return reading this god forsaken book made by the little dood, I once again thank the people who wants me to read this and tear it to shreds, I know I'm taking one for the team reading this so no one else have to, it feels good reading for you guys again, hope you're enjoying reading this cringe fest as much as I do.

With that being said... We go to chapter 19, Old Navy.

We start this chapter with Ellen talking about how her mother had a preference for the Old Navy clothes, possibly hinting at the idea that she can put that idea of dressing on Ellen's head, meanwhile Ellen had the intuition that she was being judged by others, and determined to be out of this way to come out as a girl.

1738665144835.png

She then proceeds to talk a little about her mother, more precisely about his grandparents, she describes that his grandfather was a minister for the Anglican Church and how his passing affected her mother and her aunts. She also talks about the horrors that her grandma went through when she had breast cancer, hiding it from all the family.

1738665346543.png

1738665404504.png

In a tragic twist, she died when Ellen's mother was away studying in France. She also reveals that her father proposed to her mother when they were in Paris.

View attachment 6940576

And the thing was, the mother didn't even know about the news until much later, since there was no way to try and communicate with her, since this was in the 70s and messaging was more complicated.

1738666009806.png

And like you can imagine, the horrible pain on her mother for having to deal with this loss and staying in France to keep studying, it was unbearable. If only she knew how things were going to turn out for her daughter.

1738666191976.png

During this part, Ellen start to talk a little bit more about her aunts, she seems to do it in a more positive light than expected. She talks about how it was the family structure after her grandma passed away.

1738666278578.png

And of course, little Ellen came to share those experiences with their aunts. She mentions that she enjoyed staying in those places a lot when she was a little kid.

1738666334504.png

1738666370205.png

Here she mentions that she wanted to be like Mowgli, the little kid from The Jungle Book, specially because she... wanted to eat insects. And she seems to resent the fact that one of the cousins ratted on her because she did something incredibly stupid, and in grossly detail explained how she had the blood of the insects in her mouth, but she was fine with it because they "were nutrient", the little Bear Grylls.

1738666452594.png

Time passes, they're all grown up teenagers, but of course, this visits feel different than the last time, all of Virginia felt different to her.

1738666709498.png

She then mentions how one of her cousins saw the way she was dressed when they saw each other again, she even asked why Ellen was dressed like that, but not in the friendly way. Once again, the lil dood felt discrimination, this time from their cousins, hating the way she was dressed, and Ellen made the comparison to her highschool bullies, even trying to roast her in the way her cousin was dressed.

1738666816372.png

The schizo voice came back in this one, telling her that she did not fit in this new group and life in Virginia. For the sweet sixteen party of her cousin however, she had to swallow her pride and not dress like a boy in the reception and she did not wanted to be ridiculed.

1738667015949.png

Her mother was obviously happy about this, probably little Ellen has grown up in this phase. Her mother's enthusiasm was enough for Ellen to notice.

1738667137478.png

1738667163311.png

While her mother was very happy on getting clothes for her daughter, Ellen was slowly resenting the fact on coming to the shop, she hated the idea of using girl clothes just for this occasion, but she had to stand with the attitude of everything being okay. Even though she was suffering so much on the inside for having to use female clothes.

1738667334222.png

Here we have a weird interaction between her and someone that she doesn't describe too much, there's not too much to talk about here except the fact of Ellen describing her ass for some reason.

1738667621285.png

And then we have the worst torture for Ellen imaginable, she was forced to try a lot of dresses! She felt terrible, describing that she was feeling like a mannequin, but with the positive that she saw that at least she was being liked on the form she was dressed for that occasion.

1738667811787.png

Now in the party, everything was going great, except for the fact that she was still a little shy and weird at parties, she didn't used to drink a lot of alcohol in this time, but she had to be calm.

1738667969216.png

That was, until a friend of her cousin started talking to her, they started talking when this friend started to talk about Canada with her, drunk, obviously.

1738668060871.png

And the guy decided to be based in his inebriated state.

1738668106086.png

Some time later, the music became unbearable to her and decided to concentrate her energy on looking at herself, she talks to herself that maybe if she puts some effort, she will accept this part of her dressing like a normal girl.

1738668192023.png

But that flew right out of the window when some girls said how hot she looked like with jeans with a difference, a tank top. And again, another girl talking about her ass.

1738668311670.png

The friend also suggested to change her style of music, but no way Jose, the Radiohead and Bjork songs stays with her.

1738668414026.png

The chapter ends with Ellen admitting that she would have liked to appreciate how she saw herself in the mirror when she was in that Old Navy, but didn't managed to come in terms with it. And because the happiness of her mother was so big and contagious, she couldn't managed to say anything about it, feeling trapped in the process, but that didn't mean that she wasn't changing, she already took the path and she wasn't going to stop now.

1738668477300.png
1738668572723.png

This chapter feels somewhat normal than the rest besides some lines that made me groan because of the cringe, but other than that, this was another chapter of her whining about how dressing like a girl literally kills her. The next chapter will be quite a doozy to look up for, stay tuned.

this was another chapter of her whining about how dressing like a girl literally kills her.
I'm shocked at her ability to hold onto shit like this.
I was in the same position as her in my childhood; a girl who liked to dress as a tomboy to some people's displeasure. But damn, I can't remember any specific scenarios because it's not that bloody important or even traumatizing, especially decades on. Adults and peers don't always comfort you or use kid gloves on you 24/7 for anything so I don't understand how she's so sensitive about this. Is this a symptom of a personality disorder? Maybe NPD?

She actually angers me every time I read her thoughts. Like fucking get a grip Ellen. It's not a big deal you crybaby.
She can't even hack it as a tomboy let alone a man.

Borderline? Emotionally unstable, insecure, approval seeking through extreme means, fear of abandonment.

Seconded. I'm really grateful I grew up in an era where a little girl being kind of boyish was just seen as a tomboy and a phase and not treated like some kind of big deal or proof of someone's "real self".

Its not just Ellen who goes on about how having to wear certain types of clothes is "traumatizing." This seems to be almost a meme in the trans community, and it's one that really really makes them seem unsympathetic. Surviving a mugging, natural disaster, seeing someone die in front of you, being in a war zone, or being raped, is traumatizing.
Wearing clothes you don't like - and this also applies to autists with clothing based sensory issues- is not traumatizing.

"Hello, police? I'd like to report a murder."
10/10

She's got some flavor or mix of Cluster B going on for sure, including a lot of BPD tendencies.

Whenever I'm reminded of that, I always feel sorry for her ex Wife. Ellen was never going to be easy to love but Emma tried anyway and she's never getting those years back. If I were her, I would probably block all mention of Page from any kind of notifications or news, or whatever I would just want to completely cut her from my life and never look back.

The ancient Greeks were white like north Europeans. Greeks only started looking "Mediterranean" (on average) due to hundreds of years of Ottoman (Turkish) rape and colonization.

Seems Borderline with a big slice of Histrionic and Narcissistic thrown in for seasoning personally.
All "celebrities" are Narcs to some degree or other, if they weren't they'd go to pieces like Kurt Cobain did with all the attention, (don't get me wrong theres no doubt Cobain wanted to be famous to some extent, he used to constantly call his agent early on and complain his songs weren't getting enough air play, but I don't think he had the true NPD that makes celebrities revel in the attention, so when he got what he wanted he realized he hated it) and Histrionic personality is apparent everytime Ellen opens her mouth, her main personality traits definitely match up with Borderline though.

In short she's a fucking mess. She's neurotic as hell and has a huge amount of self loathing that made her easy prey to an ideology like the Gender Cult, that cozens the naive with promises that they can change everything they don't like about their lives and themselves with hormone injections and a scalpel.

This is literally half her life away. Actually, this is probably summer of 2001 since she says she's 14 (she was born in February, 1987), so almost 24 years ago, almost two thirds of her life away. But even with all the things that have happened since then (including 9/11 a month or two later) the thing that stands out to her is that she wore a tank top and jeans and people liked it.
The friend also suggested to change her style of music, but no way Jose, the Radiohead and Bjork songs stays with her.

Radiohead is about as close to mainstream pop as you can get while still being considered alternative. In fact, I'm not convinced that an average person would even notice a Radiohead song in a standard playlist of pop songs from the 2000s unless they already knew the song. In fact, this was probably took place around the same time as Scott Tenorman Must Die, the episode of South Park where Cartman tricks Scott Tenorman, a high school freshman about Ellen's age, into eating his parents

Prediction: Ellen is cast as Hermes and she makes the whole thing about herself by insisting that Hermes be shirtless in the movie, and that her top scars be visible.
Either that or Telemachus. I would laugh heartily either way.

And both are just two stories in a huge epic that begins with Zeus turning into a swan to rape a lady who births Helen of Troy, up through the story of the golden apples, then Odysseus deciding to try and draft-doge MASH-style, then Agamenmon deciding it's totally okay to lure his daughter to where he's got his army camped under false pretenses to kill her, to the Illiad, Euripedes' play The Trojan Women (and a bunch of his other plays set during the Trojan War), the Oresteias where we're introduced to the Furies and Athena decides to invest jury duty, and finally to The Odyssey.

Why is no one making this TV series? Granted, I wouldn't want them to because it would be infested with modern identity politics, but still...
