I always used Bauernschlau as specifically lacking THAT, so for most germans it's about short sighted, greedy schemes that will bite the guy in the ass later on or make the whole community involved pay for it in unforeseen, horrific ways.

SpaceX's engineering strategy is the equivalent in software of deploying everything straight to Live and it was the norm in the early space era i.e. the 50s. Everybody's rockets used to blow up all the time, they regularly didn't even make it off the pad. Any modern rocket that's being developed as a human-rated (for carrying people) system first (e.g. the SLS) will take more of a commercial aviation approach where there's lots of tried-and-tested tech, iterative development and a fuckton of testing of every nut and bolt. What SpaceX's management did was let all their engineers go nuts with radical changes and tech that's only recently become possible due to advances in electronics, material science and manufacturing e.g. 3D printing. SpaceX's engineering approach gets a rocket on the pad with less money and time but with a much lower probability of it actually leaving the pad in the intended direction.
