As long as the TV companies like Sky keep throwing money at the Premier League they will always be one of the strongest leagues in the world. I think their biggest problem is that they fill their league with so many overpaid foreigners that their clubs don't have much in the way of homegrown talent. If you look at the clubs in the Spanish, Italian and German leagues their clubs have plenty of nationals in their squads.

LOL, they fluke a World Cup win aeons ago but somehow believe that they are a major player at football at international level. Uruguay have more right to be arrogant because they've at least won the World Cup more than once.

Considering Football's popularity (or lack of) in America I think the US international team does pretty well. Did they not make the quarter final in 1994?

1994 was round of 16....Quarterfinals were 2002 where we actually managed to outplay Germany but still lose 1-0.

For a nation where football is behind basketball, baseball, American football and maybe even ice hockey in popularity that's pretty impressive.

I think it's going to be Italy or Germany for the tournament. I think Iceland could beat France in the quarter final. They have a good team and have nothing to prove. All the pressure will be on France, especially since they are the home team.
 
I've always been puzzled by the lack of football's popularity in the US and Canada, since both countries have strong ethnic communities from countries where football is so important. Up here, it's difficult to get people to pay much attention to sports outside of hockey. MLS does have a devoted, if small, fanbase, but it barely registers on the national sports screen.

Then again, Curling is a popular sport here, so maybe it's not that surprising after all.
 
I hate when England loses because Welsh and Scottish and Irish and Australians get their chance to insult their master race... (I'm American btw) but as an American I know who our true friends in the UK and it's the English ..so to all English fans I don't care how many bad ratings I get..I'm sorry for your loss

Portugal beats Poland 5-3 in penalties, to no one's surprise. /sp/ and r/soccer butthurt as fuck over the result. My sides are in orbit.
 
I want to see Portugal eliminated NOW - too bad a team like Poland had no chance in Hell of doing that, to be brutally honest. Hopefully Belgium does, too - I know for a fact they're gonna wipe the floor with Wales.

Why do you want the only good team to lose? Is it because of Pepe and Ronaldo?
 
That's hilarious that Wales have made the semi-final whilst England blow it as usual. I'd like to see Wales win it but I can't really see past Germany or Italy.

Who have Wales got in the semi?
