I'm in the mood for some armchair Software engineering. How would you guys implement the npc simulation for YanSim? I'm out of the loop with programming, but theoretical informatics and data structures have always been fun and i wonder how you can handle the Students states without tanking Performance like the game does.

I'm more familiar with Arma's AI processing, but if I were trying to scrap together a YanSim style AI in Arma, I'd probably use agents, which are a form of limited AI actor. If you've seen gameplay footage of goats wandering around in Arma 3 content, those are agents. They have a limited AI tree, so they don't use many resources, but can still trip other processes like detection or landmines. By default, agents don't have a panic action in response to shooting or explosions but they can be made to do so.

So if I had a map of a school I'd make the overwhelming majority of students into agents so they use minimal resources, especially since all it seems regular students exist to do in YanSim is be detectors for the players shenanigans or be targets of said shenanigans. Because of this, they only need extremely basic pathfinding and delay timers. So you'd have a group of students, let's say 25, that spawn at the school gates, follow markers to their locker, then their classroom, sit down, and delay getting back up to go the next class for an hour, for example.

Hall monitors would be full AIs with interlocking patrol paths around the corridors but their own set of delay timers and waypoints to give the illusion of randomness in their behaviors. Since the hall monitors would need to be able to do more, they would be the first of the AI with full decision trees to respond to what they see. So for example, an agent that sees a body will only have two or three states once it sees the body. Panic, run, get an authority figure. Hall monitors need to be able to do all those things, but also look for the cause of the disturbance, get a teacher, investigate suspicious activity, etc.

Teachers do more than hall monitors like starting a lockdown, calling the police, restrain the suspect, etc but still maintain much the same decision tree as the hall monitors, which in turn means that both are drawing from the same behaviors which in turn reduces performance costs ever so slightly.

If we have 10 classrooms of 25 students and a teacher each, plus 1 hall monitor for every 50 students that's 250 students, 5 monitors, and 10 teachers. Agents have next to no performance impact since they're more or less just lobotimites, to a point I've filled cities with them in Arma 3 and only lost 2-5 frames. This leaves a whopping 15 AI actors per floor, which is nothing in Arma terms.

Even if reality brings the hammer down, the Patreon wave dies, the money runs out, and becomes relevant all at the same time, he'll never truly release it. He'll use the financial situation to justify an Early Access steam release, and keep tinkering forevermore.

I like to think when Alex, inevitably, descends to hell, his eternal damnation will be to work on the game he will never finish.

No fire or brimstone, torture or anything. Just trapped in his same exact room, answering emails and tinkering for all eternity.

The Devil loves irony, after all.

Yanderegenerate: please let me be done, I have nothing else I want to put in

Satan: Give me the ability to steal Senpai’s condoms

The funny thing is, with any other developer with those years, they would have already made a shitton of games by now. YandereDev couldn't even manage one in 10 years.

Meanwhile, Yandere Simulator clones have been made in less time. Or modded into pre-existing games. What a joke.
Even the forever games like Zomboid and 7 Days that have had similar lifespans have also seen so much overhaul and change over their lives that their current iterations are far closer to sequels of the original released version as opposed to just finishing what they started. Yansim meanwhile has developed so slowly and so inconsistently that we really are still in the alpha stages where entire systems just don't exist.

Honestly, the problem comes from the fact that YanDev just couldn't stick to a plan and keeps getting sidetracked. Because there is a roadmap on how the game is supposed to work.

Learn to be extra sneaky by entering clubs, avoid getting caught, Kill/Dispose of Rivals and then get Senpai in the end.

A simple plan. A furry developer would have already knocked this out of the ballpark already by getting all those core features done, added onto it and then started trimming and beautifying it. YanDev did it out of order and this is the exact reason why some Devs need tard wranglers.

Just to add to your example list, Warframe and how it started out is vastly different from how it is now. But the main thing to why it turned out so well is because the community made sure to keep Warframe on track.Or to be specific, its first audience. 4chan. Its own forums are filled with nothing but shills. In fact many of the features enjoyed today (going fast especially) came from the channers. And during those early years (even today), DE got tempted to add several retarded features that would have killed the game until the autists told them to knock it off. After all, they've seen where those dumb features have taken other games into and would loathe for their silly ninja game to die like those did.

And now, here we are. Warframe is celebrating its 11th year and YanDev is left with a legacy of failure and ultimately a lesson to any would-be gamedev on how NOT to develop a game.

I was watching a video on what little progress Alex made to his game and noticed he really did just straight up add Kiryu from Yakuza. 1712592786561.png1712592854191.png

As someone who has been watching him occasionally from almost the beginning this is not new at all. By which I mean he blatantly rips off characters all the time.
I don't even know if they're still in the game but I remember the funniest one was the time he deadass just added the Scooby-Doo gang into the game as students and he wasn't subtle with it at all, all of their names were even the same but engrish-fied.
Goes to show how unoriginal he is.

Absolutely does not surprise me.

Isn't this the guy who (off the top of my head) stole the ideas from A Certain Magical Index (Mikoto's hair on Yan-chan), Prison School (Genka the guidance counselor), the gyaru anime (the bullies), K-On (Ayano being able to have a slice of toast in her mouth), Kizuna Ai (until they requested it be taken down), Attack on Titan, Undertale, Raiden, DK Mode, GoldenEye, Captain Falcon, Saitama, Touhou, and way too many animes and video games to count and put them into his game? (I don't want to name them all, we'd be stuck here until the Sun fucking explodes.)

But hey, Yandere Simulator lasted longer than the Confederacy. By a factor of, well, over two three. So, make of that what you will.

genshin does the exact same shit, i guess you can get away with it by being... a low-effort weeaboo game. oh.

So apparently someone leaked audio to r/osana of pedodev directly admitting to talking about the size of his cock to the child, listening to her masturbate, and asking her for porn of herself.
I hate how we've gotten to a point in the YandereDev degeneracy where I look at what he's done and I say "Oh. That's it?"
But dammit, every time I think Alex can't get any lower...

I suppose that's my mistake. For him, there isn't a limit.

Look, I know how that sounds, but is there any proof that it is legit? I am asking because AI is crazy these days and even in my video it nailed Alex's sleazy intonation so hard that it felt uncanny.

Also, that would be a weird thing for him to do after the Jelly shit. Yeah, he's never been smart, but that's too soon in my opinion.

Also, can you give me a link to the post on r Osana, please?

I want to say it's fake and gay based off of a gut feeling, mostly because of how often the audio peaks and the lower than usual quality audio compared to what Alex seems to produce but I'm not sure. One thing I noticed is that there's an occasional mouth/tongue noise that the AI generally tries to turn into something else and you usually won't hear in anything AI processed. That said...this took me literally all of 30 seconds.

Sounds fake, but I would not be surprised if these words were direct messages he sent to someone about the entire situation.
It sounds like something she would do if the honeypot screenshots are true.

I personally know where the audio came from. It's not fake.
