CultcowEvaXephon / Yanderedev / Alex Mahan / Alexander Stuart Mahan / cannotgoogleme - Edgy weeaboo coomer with pedo tendencies and 15+ years internet history as a lolcow, now known as a disaster developer behind eternal debug build called "Yandere Simulator", confirmed groomer and dollfucker
Plus he still makes a decent income from streaming. The dude is basically unemployable at this point, it's probably his only source of shekels that don't come from Daddy.
Blah, blah - new update. It's mostly bug fixes but...
YandereDev had a volunteer go work on adding a Discord-knockoff called "Yancord".
You meet a person called "Selene2005" who likes the Moonlit Warrior Selene franchise.
The conversations end up becoming long hypothetical situations about judging criminals and morality of killing them.
Near the end "Selene2005" goes off into the deep end and rambles about "evil" she needs to go think.
Now for the people in the back who still haven't noticed:
Moonlit Warrior.
Selene is the goddess of the moon in Greek mythology the Roman equivalent being "Luna".
TL;DR: He's covertly shilling Lunar Scythe in Yandere Simulator.

God, he just can't fucking let go can he? I don't even get why. Nobody's going back to play or even look at that trashy game, has he always been so clingy to his older stuff?

One of the most common traits I've noticed amongst lolcows is that for whatever reason they just can't let go of anything they created. Usernames are the best example of this - something so small and insignificant but for some reason they are so proud of them and feel the need to use the same one (or some small variation of it) on every website.
Alex never gave up on Lunar scyth and this probably won't be the last time that he made a reference to her. Then again the Lunar scyth girl shares almost all of Alex's beliefs so it wouldn't be too surprising that he's so obsessed with her.
On a related note didn't Alex take the pose mod from the guy he got to do the discord knockoff?

I think it's that precisely because "Selene" shares Alex' beliefs that he's unwilling to let go of Lunar Scythe. Think about it: he has stated that he wanted to implement this from the very start, despite it by his own admission having nothing to do with the lore and the backstory. It relates to the post-game, despite a preview of it being implemented before the first rival is. I'm of course only speculating, but it feels like Alex thinks that his game should have a 'message' that the world needs to know. That 'message' being the exact same one Lunar Scythe had. Selene is pretty much Alex' mouthpiece. Ironic then, that said mouthpiece gives so much thought to whether or not people can change when Alex himself has barely changed.
Serious talk: there are people who question whether or not video games could be considered art and while I'd hesitate to use such a loaded term, I would say that a video game could be considered on par with a tv series or a movie in terms of depth and storytelling. That means I do believe there is and should be room for social commentary, moral quandries and philosophical exploration. However, that does not mean that something is suddenly not badly written because it has a 'message'. There is a time and a place for everything and a video game about a kawaii animu girl killing other kawaii animu girls to get her senpai to notice her isn't the place for discussing the foundations of objective justice. It's so grating, it could be compared to a cheesy 80s action flick grinding to a screeching halt to discuss the distinction between democracy and mob rule. Why?
I don't dig the concept, but I wonder if his game will ever be finished considering prolonging the game and making it have a feature creep is his main income. I don't really see the motivating factors for actually delivering a finished game.
At this point I put it in the category of "Duke Nukem Forever." I heard stories from the devs who worked on DNF that they'd be told to scrap work because the lead saw something at E3 or a reveal trailer and now we need to go in that direction. It's not so much "Feature creep" as it is not having the ability to stand on a decision and see it through. The fact that YandereDev keeps adding easter eggs and new content but still hasn't fixed his spaghetti code or made a solid base to build upon and show as proof of concept speaks highly of how badly he needs someone on top of him at all times and who has full control. I have a feeling he didn't "work out" in the corporate world because he can't handle someone else being in charge.

Team bondi (the developers of L.A Noire) had the same issue developing it, until rockstar bought them out and shaped them up. Team Bondi was supposed to become rockstar games Australia but because the lead of Team Bondi sperged out he became impossible to work with. However rockstar still managed to put out a decent game despite it suffering under 3-4 years of horrible development prior to them getting bought out. In other words, they tard-wrangled him.
Of course no one is going to buy out yansim or shape it up but there are at least one somewhat happy ending to development hell & an alex-like leader getting tardwrangled.
in terms of getting a good game (as if anyone here has any hope left of that) I think that'd be the only realistic path, as Alex shaping up on his own is flat out unrealistic.
Honestly, this game was fucked before he even wrote a single line of spaghetti. Making a fully 3d open world Hitman-esque game with a persisting gameworld and Majora's Mask style daily paths for the NPCs for 8 weeks (vs 3 days for Majora) would be a herculean task for even seasoned veterans, and they would have enough sense to not even attempt it. He should have done a game with simpler graphics and modelling if he wanted a game this complex. Something kind of like Yomawari would work fine. It has a cute, yet dark artstyle that would allow open world gaming with NPCs to interact with. Plus, you could easily commission artists to draw assets for relatively cheap. But It just had to be like Hitman for some reason.
Even with a simpler game like this, the pathing would still be time consuming, but feasible for a hard working developer. Of course, he can't just switch styles in the middle of development without pissing off what few fans he has left, so he's just kind of fucked unless he starts hiring people, which he won't because pride or something.
Its crazy its still going on. love the shit talking on Alex, but at this point I think the fans are worse. I know they are most likely young spergy fans themselves, but to keep giving this guy money over the years and ignoring all the warning signs that it will never be finished, or never be what he envisioned, that makes them worse.
Good things get done when dividing the load and collaborating. He could not do that with Tiny Build and now its all on him.
I was going to ask how tf Alex was so stupid as to forget lockdowns are a thing but then I remembered his bitch as is home schooled. Jesus fuck though lockdowns would have so much potential in his shit game, so would all the Japanese natural disaster drills every so often would be pretty great! Teach the kids what to do in an emergency and have the yandere memorize and use it to their advantage.
I can't get over how much of a wasted potential this has been.

The main reason why no one is bothering now is because TinyBuild already tried two years ago via partnership. If anyone was going to light a fire under Alex's ass and help him focus on what's actually important for the game's development, it was going to be the guys who helped churn out other ambitious, but overall niche, indie titles like Graveyard Keeper and ClusterTruck. Alex then quietly ditched them after a few complaints of their code being a pain to read (wow dat lack of self-reflection), which made it immediately clear to any other devs and studios watching that Alex is a pain to work with, who cares more about complete control and asspats than actually producing a finished, playable game.
