Fallout series

I dont think it's really a competition, they're both horribly incompetent studios. The people who made Fallout what it was have either gone insane or left for other things.
Todd Howard is still too busy whoring an almost 12-year-old Skyrim

Obsidian is a shadow of it's former self, though they always had a woke perspective they didn't let it cloud their design and writing. The Legion is the designated 'evil' faction, sure, but the fact that you can even argue otherwise about a literal slave nation is a testament to how intelligently written they are.

The Outer Worlds pretty much killed any interest or hope I had in them. It was just Borderlands but with a bigger emphasis on traditional RPG features. Every man you meet is an incompetent or ineffectual idiot juxtaposed by a hyper competent female counterpart. The Board is just a purely incompetent evil caricature of capitalist oligarchs, it's full of quirky millennial quip humor, and it's not even a setting that really motivates exploration or thought.

Damn, i don't know if supporting paying taxes, larping as a roman, evading taxes or going full anarchism.
Well, i'm playing as a asian pro-ncr support this time in a unarmed playthrought. The idea behind being asian is this fucking courier was born in San Francisco with the Shi... you know, that based faction from FO2.

Obsidian feels less of a game studio and a more of a business, and this goes the same with most big companies these days (including video games).

...Fuck, one my parents brought me for my birthday The Other Worlds since I really liked NV and they noticed it was made by the same people

I know it's fashionable to hate on Bethesda but I trust the franchise with them more than I'd trust it in the hands of Obsidian.
I want to not agree with this post but sadly I have to. Fallout 4 while very mediocre and dumbed down was not woke. In fact I struggle to think of a single moment in FO4 that was overtly woke or lefty propaganda.

By contrast The Outer Worlds was extremely woke almost to the point of parody and I have no doubt they'd ruin Fallout if given the chance.

I done that with a melee playthrought days ago. The final fight against NCR was pretty good.
Now i'm doing all the shit i never got bothered with the NCR, mainly those stupid sidequests.

To be fair to Obsidian, Outer Worlds had no involvement from the two leads of New Vegas, Josh Sawyer and Chris Avellone. And while Avellone has departed, Sawyer still works there. He's lightly pozzed but would've probably told a story with more nuance than Outer Worlds.

Also Pillars 1 is boring CRPG gameplay with good story. I've heard Pillars 2 is better across the board but have not dug in.

I was sitting here playing with Fallout 4, happily building my vault when I got this idea. If I were allowed to make a Fallout spinoff I would basically make Fallout Shelter but actually good.

Instead of the Pip-Boy inspired graphics I would keep the 3D. You play the game through your Overseer, whom you can control in 1st person like any Bethesda Fallout title, but you can also access a Vault Management mode from your Overseer's Desk in your office. Through that you can rearrange, expand, and upgrade your vault, as well as order your vault dwellers around, assign them positions within the vault, set amounts of food and water per vault dweller, etc.

You have to deal with concerns like food, water, morale, materials to fabricate spare parts, weapons and armor for your security guards, maintaining the various vault systems, recruiting new vault residents from the most qualified wasteland candidates, fending off raids, researching or rediscovering technologies, and sending vault dwellers out on expeditions.

You can accompany your expeditions personally to explore the map, deal with other factions, trade, scavenge ruins, do quests, and build small outposts in the wasteland. It's advised that you get your vault to a level of self sustainability and stability before venturing outside the vault yourself for long periods of time.

Make the entire thing procedurally generated, with lots of handcrafted points of interest, structures, and areas that could appear, with a big list of factions that can be used to populate the world. Everything from Enclave remnants, Brotherhood chapters, Super Mutants, Robots, raider gangs, insane doomsday cults, tribals, aliens, even factions like the NCR or Caesar's Legion, just everything you would expect to see in a Fallout game. Fill the world with all the Fallout monsters from Radroach to Deathclaw to test your vault dwellers against. Every generated map could have different factions, terrain, monsters, all depending on the options you choose when you generate a new game.

Have a list of "main quests" that could arise in the wasteland, from resurgent Super Mutant armies trying to restart The Unity, Enclave remnants doing typical Enclave shit, a faction of the Brotherhood that has decided to go full Elijah and are now the defacto baddies, raider gangs uniting to terrorize everyone else, and lots more.

Force the player to contend with the insane machinations of long dead Vault Tec mad scientists as their experiments wreak havoc on your vault. Depending on your selected difficulty these can be either an irritating inconvenience, or a genuine threat to the entire vault. At first you're simply going to have to deal with them, but as your skills, tech level, and other important stats increase you gain the ability to fight back, eventually disabling the experiment for good.

I honestly think such a game would be fun as all hell.
