People say Bethesda isn't hostile to the modding community but for a company that is basically supported by it they sure do make it a pain in the fucking ass to keep your game running without them breaking it every couple years. Just make the update optional for fuck's sake.No one's really said what is or isn't broken yet in regards to mods
I heard that the New Vegas Alien Exterminator mod is fun. Then again, it's a fan mod that doesn't take itself too seriously like The Frontier.Fallout 3 was going to end with the player on a space station and communicating with aliens. And Fallout 4 would be colonizing space and humanity abandoning Earth and joining some galactic confederation like Mass Effect or Star Wars. These concepts proved to be beyond retarded though. And New Vegas brought things back down to a more grounded world and story.
Bethesda's Fallout 3 flirted with the aliens though with Mothership Zeta. Also known as one of the worst game expansions of all time.
I think 3 and New Vegas had the ideal aesthetic for Fallout as a whole. It was a good mix of 'Atompunk'/'Dieselpunk' but also functional to the point it felt believable. Fallout 3 leaned into the 50s aesthetic a little more while New Vegas had a neo-Western feel that kind've complimented each other. Although I did wished the guns between both games were a little more unified. It's still confusing what even was Pre-War America's main service rifle.I find the Fallout 4 aesthetic abhorrent. What a fucking downgrade from 3. Somebody was clearly like "So it's retrofuture. That means everything is big and goofy like in the 40s!" And just went full retard from there.
In 3 weapons and the art deco design had a distinct bulkiness but it was kind of hostile and sharp. Compare the 10mm in both games. In 3 the 10mm is a big, boxy, square gun you could still believe is a sidearm people would use. In 4 the pistol is this gigantic cylindrical tube monstrosity that looks like absolute refried ass.
New Vegas was still 50’s as hell. But it wasn’t the Greaser “At The Hop” sorta 50’s with leather jackets, pompadours and “Daddy-O” type stuff that 3 and 4 were.while New Vegas had a neo-Western feel
It is the problem with the series is that no one set a complete outline of what the look of the world should be. It can be nice to change the aesthetics per game and keep it looking interesting, the cost being you sacrifice consistency. Originally the first fallouts had 90s guns like glocks and made up ones like the 10mm (which was actually stolen from a comic) so the vibe was whatever rifle was the service weapon in the armed forces at the time. Bethesda, and I actually liked this idea, went for a Cold War weapon (g3) that wasn’t actually used by the US which is an interesting twist than to just make it an M16. Fallout NV would keep with their tradition and made it the M16, you have mostly the wooden 60s era weapon (which was cool and fitting) but you have some other variants keeping it futuristic. 4 obviously goes into attempting to make their own weapons which I wouldn’t mind so much but they ended up just looking like guns from Doom and Wolfenstine which for me doesn’t really fit the fallout look. They almost had an interesting design for the combat rifle but it’s a bit raw and could still use some cooking. So long story short don’t think too much into it, if you try to make the story of fallout logical 4 wouldn’t exist because most of the world “should have” been repopulated. It's still confusing what even was Pre-War America's main service rifle.
Off-topic, but what makes Metro interesting IMO is the sense of redemption and forgiveness that it always loops back to amidst the pain of loss and the gravity of the mistakes and errors that you and others have done. There's also all the interpersonal relationships making it work, like with Anna in Exodus or the baby Dark One learning mercy and forgiveness from Artyom. The lore isn't super special but the characters really stick and that counts for a lot.New Vegas was still 50’s as hell. But it wasn’t the Greaser “At The Hop” sorta 50’s with leather jackets, pompadours and “Daddy-O” type stuff that 3 and 4 were.
New Vegas is Southwestern 50’s. The thing Goggins nailed well.
That Route 66, technicolor western sorta vibe. That’s one of the major things I love about NV despite how much I like to clown on it.
The 50’s retro futurism is to me what makes fallout stand out. Take it away and you have generic Post Apo Wasteland.
For as much as every loves to gas up Metro, it’s pretty mid as far as lore and setting go except for Exodus where you get diverse locations. I like Metro, and even tho it’s taking some getting used to I like STALKER as well, but they feel bland compared to 3,NV and 4 to me.
Edit because I feel this is important.
Put your hazmat suits on cuz this comes from Plebbit, but apparently the notion that the London developers felt Bethesda was being malicious is not true just like the devs of New Vegas constantly say Bethesda being malicious to them wasn’t true.

Which wasn’t supposed to be the AR, but instead was supposed to be called the “Machine Gun” and was clearly designed with being a big chunky gun that looked good in the hands of the re-designed power armor.or experimental guns (fo4 assault rifle)
The level where you have to escape the cannibals really made me uneasy and it was so cathartic to mow them down from the train at the end.Off-topic, but what makes Metro interesting IMO is the sense of redemption and forgiveness that it always loops back to amidst the pain of loss and the gravity of the mistakes and errors that you and others have done. According to 3's lore, R91 replaced the AR-15 pattern rifles as the service rifle in pre-war America. The AR-15 that's called the Service Rifle in NV is called that way because it's the service rifle of the NCR.It's still confusing what even was Pre-War America's main service rifle.
The R91 or any of the AR-15 looking rifles introduced in NV?
No, it replaced the M1 Garand rifle and was selected over the M-14, unlike in the real world. Though based on the G3 rifle it's should be based on the T48. The AR rifle in new vegas is in fact called such because of the use by the NCR. Those are patterned after the AR-10.According to 3's lore, R91 replaced the AR-15 pattern rifles as the service rifle in pre-war America. They at least nailed energy weapons in 4. Very satisfying to use and looked good imo. The makeshift laser rifle the Minutemen use I especially liked.4 obviously goes into attempting to make their own weapons which I wouldn’t mind so much but they ended up just looking like guns from Doom and Wolfenstine which for me doesn’t really fit the fallout look.
Were they really going to set it for right after the bombs fell or is it something i made up on v 15 years ago thats finally accepted as the truth?from immediately after the bombs fell
why? Also known as one of the worst game expansions of all time.
another fun fact about 10mm pistols is that it isn't some scifi bullshit, it was "the gun of the future" style fad of the 90s that didn't take off10mm pistols don’t look like that shit.
how the fuck have you never played wasteland 2/3? they really play up the whole "the nuclear war hit in the 90s" bit so you have shit like ronald regan worshiping cults and shit like that.ut they feel bland compared to 3,NV and 4 to me.
i like how much time they put into their "on rails" parts of the campaign its literally like a movie in a lot of the locations. Like if you made a video game out of children of men with that same obsessive set design effort. Also thought it was cool how the harder difficulty settings can actually make things easier depending on your play style.Metro
10mm is actually pretty popular nowadays and has been increasing in popularity over the past 10 years.another fun fact about 10mm pistols is that it isn't some scifi bullshit, it was "the gun of the future" style fad of the 90s that didn't take off
Are those those top down games. I’m not really a fan of that.how the fuck have you never played wasteland 2/3? they really play up the whole "the nuclear war hit in the 90s" bit so you have shit like ronald regan worshiping cults and shit like that.
Survivalist’s Rifle is basically a nod to the 50 Beowulf cartridge.Honest Hearts shows that the service rifle was still in us by the US Military in some manor by the time of the great war
Yeah, they're made by the Gun Runners who manufacture weapons based on either pre-war schematics they found or their own original designs, though in the Service Rifle's example it's a pre-war design.Though I also think most of the Service Rifles in FNV are post war makes by the NCR, I don't care what Josh Sawyer says about how they are prewar, he is wrong and stupid, I don't care if he designed them he's wrong.
Yeah I know, I'm just saying it existing implies the US Army was still issuing M series rifles into the 2070s even though the R91 was supposed to replace it decades ago. This does raise some weird questions about what the US army was actually fielding during the Great war, but that's a whole other autistic discussion that i don't want to get into right now.Survivalist’s Rifle is basically a nod to the 50 Beowulf cartridge.
I understand why it was a update for the Xbox S and the PS5, but it didn't need to be for PC. The creation club update could have been done without need to change other shit.Just make the update optional for fuck's sake.
Josh Sawyer went on twitter sometime after the release to say they were actually Pre-War rifles. Which could mean Pre-War designs, but I think he meant the rifles themselves were all Pre-War. I think its one of the dumbest ret-cons possible if thats what it actually means.Yeah, they're made by the Gun Runners who manufacture weapons based on either pre-war schematics they found or their own original designs, though in the Service Rifle's example it's a pre-war design.
