New Vegas feels like a society that's rebuilding (or even full on rebuilt) because it is, timeline wise. It has been hundreds of years since the apocalypse. Getting to New Reno was always the highlight of Fallout 2 because you realize "oh shit, society is back." 3's atmosphere is great but there's a reason everyone mocks Bethesda for thinking the franchise is only about hobos living in decrepit ruins no matter how little it makes sense with the timeline. The TV show just confirmed what Bethesda thinks of the franchise and it unfortunately brought that shit to the west coast and now probably New Vegas with the next season.

Personally, if I find anyone who uses the phrase "slop", "woke" or any other such word that has seen prominence here and on 4Chan I will usually refuse to hold conversation with that person. Because as much as they try and say they aren't, they're just as obnoxious as a leftie. They have no respect for me because to them its all about being right and better. I needn't talk about my qualms with lefties since all you need to do is take a trip to Fallout's reddit and see what I mean.

Horseshoe theory is real, but mostly in relevance to how annoying of a person someone is. It's just another case of people replacing God with government. "My idol is better than yours"

It is actually amazing how a singleplayer game can cause this much vitriol in people. I could maybe understand if were talking about an MMO or a multiplayer game. But make no mistake, these are games with no player-to-player interaction beyond discussion. I just don't get it.

I don't dislike Synthetic Man actually. I think he's kind of a loser and I disagree with basically all of his takes but unlike somebody like Endymion or Andypants he's not a ragebaiting grifter. He's totally honest about his views and I respect that. You can't say that about a lot of youtubers these days.

The issue here is twofold. "Woke" is a pejorative, so when you tell someone that thing they like is woke it will immediately put them on the defensive. If you told a fan of bebop jazz that it's woke because the majority of well-known bebop composers are black they're going to feel like you're insulting their taste and respond accordingly by calling you a faggot.
I think what people need to understand is that woke isn't inherently bad. If woke was inherently bad New Vegas would be inherently bad. It isn't, and the woke elements do absolutely nothing to hinder the core gameplay or story. Hell, I'd argue it enhances it by creating a contrast between the "woke" and "based" elements. This is largely because the people who made it actually give a shit about roleplaying games and are perfectly fine with you joining the Legion even if they think it's wrong.

I think either Yes Man or Mr. House are the ideal endings. NCR or Legion annexing the entire Mojave just sounds like shit to me, the inhabitants lose a lot of freedom either way and they become merely an extension of some foreign imperialistic entity.

The problem of the NCR and Legion are different but also very similar.

The NCR are a bunch of good people being led by weak selfish man. I hate that Tandi didnt have a proper sucessor to carry the values that led Shady Sands becoming a super power in the wasteland. Their general is a glory hound when the chief of the rangers proved himself to be a far more competent individual and the president is innefficient at best. There needed to be some president worth a damn taking over (I ironically believe that House or Yes Man would be best because the people would sure vote the current one out) and Oliver needs also to be removed.

House makes it clear he doesnt want to be enemies with the NCR, that would be bad for business, what he DOES want is for them to recognize his sovereignty and play by his rules when they are in his turf. He wants NCR citizens to come over and spend their cash at the Strip, profits of which he will invest in his ambition in reaching the stars with enough decades. If can headcanon your Yes Man ending to be similar, where the NCR wouldnt be your enemy but would be forced to back off.

I think that you can buy that the NCR wouldnt be so bad for the Mojave but there would need to be some changes in leadership at best for me to truly buy its a major improvement.

The Legion are a bunch of tribals that dont know any better following a smart man. Its clear that Ceasar wants the wasteland to improve but only in a way he approves of, anyone else be damned. He wants a monument to his name before he dies.

But on the opposite end, that newfound freedom doesn't necessarily mean protection.

Without the protectron army, you shouldnt even bother unless you are playing an "agent of chaos" type Courier. With the protectron army, you can at least assume that things will be "orderly" (assuming that its true that Yes Man's "updates" will keep him strictly loyal towards you and there aint no Skynet type shenenigans there) but your Courier might still screw things up (a lot of headcanon is required sadly).

There is no perfect ending and I think it was a great way to "cap off" the Interplay Trilogy

I think it's fair to say a lot of early 2000s and late 90s game were proto woke. I love NV and a lot of those games but all that stuff lead to where we are now In the gaming industry. Also to be fair to fallout, it takes place in a world where using a lead pipe is equal and as effective as using a pistol.

One half of my autism is very excited to see the locations translated IRL, the other half of my autism that is annoyed at how they fucked up the lore is dreading what they're going to do to the locations and characters. I'm also disappointed so far nothing from FO2 is really dealt with considering where Lucy's vault is and how NV is so tied to FO2. I'm hoping that's fixed.

I think I see the situation more clearly. I wrote the post a couple of days ago in a hurry, and I confused two different retards as one(the other one wasn't from this site). The off-topic argument in the Synth thread is nearly 2 months old now and I forgot the finer details of it when writing this post.
Looking thru these old posts I can see why I forgot about it as it is a complete nothing burger that lasted several pages worth of arguments, it was re-ignited again for some reason a few days ago(ie the person who got thread banned)
Okay, I guess I deserve those trash cans for misleading and straight up misremembering the information. I will have to harass the Joshua Graham retard elsewhere, then. Shoutout goes to the guy who mentioned JG for no reason that got my wires crossed with another concurrent, but similarly retarded argument elsewhere.

Anyways, the points that were talked about here were still summarized in the linked Synth video and merely sperged over by both parties over their nuances. The bullet points here are:

Synth is retarded and can't articulate his points well sometimes and this is one of these occasions. As you can see, this is largely making a mountain out of a molehill, you can call any game woke when you take individual tropes and claim they are "woke" by themselves, especially if you don't talk about the big picture or how this relates to previous entries. Trying to determine what woke even means is a battle in and of itself, good luck trying to prove that a niche game from 1997 paved way for faggotry today because it has XYZ in it.
I've found discussions like this meaningless since they're usually bait, rare instances when they're not they tend to end in massive amount of retardation. I've figured these kinds of discussions could be quarantined to a thread where it actually belongs, discussed by people who did actually play the games in some capacity, but I guess nobody is interested here either way. Fine by me, my real target apparently isn't even here.

What's the point of sending the message if nobody knows it was you? Besides, this wasn't an assassin build, stealth-archer archetype is boring pussy shit anyways.
The ending actually sheds some light on why the NCR hated me for what I've done, but I wish there was some bit of dialogue in the game that explained it to not confuse the player in the middle of their playthru.
Anyways, another highlight came during the final fight with the Legate: The most common way to deal with him is to pass his 100 skill checks, which is boring. I chose to taze his ass this playthru with the Compliance Regulator, which upon scoring a critical hit stuns the NPC for 10 seconds. Then, I wailed at him with a poisoned blade, each stab geometrically dealing more and more damage, quicker and quicker. In the end, I didn't even need 10 full seconds, he was dead before he got up. Didn't even get to sword fight him with Blade of the West from Lonesome Road for a fitting ideological West vs East battle.
