Fallout series

My guess is, that due to Bethesda wanting to get in on these games with online microtransactions, the game will require you to be connected to a server, your player data and purchases will be stored on their side. I'm guessing that either you can set the game to single player, or automatically be dropped into a map with an already number of existing players.

This completely cuts out the problem they had with trying to monetize Fallout 4 through the creation club. They can load up the store with player accesories or house accessories. But I wonder if they'll decide to drop other things that influence player power.

What I'm really wondering is, that since it's co-op and online, people will team up to figure out how to fudge the game so they can powerlevel themselves to absurdity so they can drop into others games and grief the crap out of them.

This will probably result in Bethesda punishing everyone with absurdly powerful enemies and drop rates in a bid to stop the powergamers from griefing others, but will punish the people at the bottom the most. I've seen that sort of thing happen before in online games.

But what's interesting is Bethesda was making plenty of money off of CC already. Lots of people were buying stuff and making them shedloads of profit. It's one of the reasons they went to hell of leather on pushing for Fallout 76 to be their next big release title.

I mean I'm totally down for some co-op Fallout as the settlement building aspect makes more sense in that. Being able to basically pick where you want to build too works.

They're finally fucking adding to the weird n wonderful beastiary, something they should have arguably done way the hell back in Fallout 3 rather than constantly and awkwardly shoving in old factions and then belting them with a hammer to force them to fit.

The concern is there was basically no talk of the plot, or NPCs or even really of the setting itself. It very much feels like "this is going to be a wasteland for you to fuck around in with mates".

Which, like nearly every game of this type, will turn into one set of fucks running around always collecting the nuclear codes and griefing everyone else.

From what I've heard, 2018 Obsidian is a bit different from 2010 Obsidian. Even if something that outrageous happened, it wouldn't make much of a difference.

I didn't expect my joke to get actual responses, but interesting information none the less.

Of course Obsidian's in a real bind as each time they tend to go for the bottom rung jobs (they had just 18 months to make F:NV) just to keep the lights on.

The main reason being they got badly fucked over by Bethesda who promised them a massive, massive bonus if they got an 85% metacritic score.

They got 84%.

I think the problem is they're selling this as a Fallout Online type game which isn't quite what people wanted. They want to build and play with their friends and share those cool moments and quests together, but the griefing aspect they've outright added in straight away makes my blood run cold. You're going to get that one prick rushing around in full T-51 power armour with a fat man killing every and anyone who's just starting out.

If it'd been pushed entirely on the co-op side "Every vault dweller you meet will be a fellow human player!" that would've been totally ace. "Play single player, or play with your friends!" totally ace. Mixing and matching the settlement building of F4 with quests? Totally ace.

I mean if we want something more traditional, there's always Wasteland 3 coming out, which is having a Co-Op mode right from the very start.

I really wanted to like this game because the setting is so appealing to me and looks very nice, but it just sounds like it will be a big sandboxy playground to blow things up in. That in itself is also appealing, but not for Fallout. Bethesda never understood Fallout beyond "it's campy retro-sci-fi with nukes!" The idea of encouraging players to wantonly nuke parts of the map runs completely counter to the tone of the series, which is why the Fat Man weapon was such a stupid addition all the way back in FO3. Looks like they haven't learned anything.

So in case anyone else was wondering if you can get into the beta to see if it's a dumpster fire before throwing 60 dollars at it, the answer is no. View attachment 470627

T-t-thanks Todd Howard.
If you're an Xbox One player and you preorder it via the Xbox Live Marketplace, you won't be charged until 10 days before release, so you can cancel your preorder if it's not your cup of tea (you'll have to go to the Microsoft website and go to your account purchases to do that).

EDIT:

Also, Bethesda will hold a Q&A about the game on the 12th at 4PM PT, so that'll hopefully clarify how the game works.

Well, hands up and colour me surprised that they've gone for a hybrid model.

It also seems they've done what they've done previously and nicked some of the most popular mods (greenery overhaul, build anywhere) and stuffed them into the game as well.

Which at least gives a different aesthetic, I guess?

Either way, it began to interest me (A Fallout game that's not all brown? YAY!) then the online shit kept piling out and I began to go a bit cold.

Yea, for a minute there I thought they were going to go for a new vegas direction, until they shit the bed.

Part of me is still hoping that Fallout 76 will have both a single player game and a multiplayer mode similar to GTA V and GTA Online, but I am still unsure.

I was going to pre-order the game and the game itself still looks good, but with this whole online gaming aspect, I'm not so sure if I'll buy it now.

If Bethesda releases any further information on how exactly this online game works and whether or not there will be a single-player mode, then I might pre-order it. But only if there is the option for single player.

Again, given how badly Bethesda's been fucking up lately, I'm not holding my breath.

I'm fully expecting micro-transactions to replace the lack of mods. I'm assuming, of course.

Also expecting the "solo" player option is really just you refusing to play with anyone else that's currently going on. Perhaps like previous MMOs, there will be PvE and PvP areas, but no idea. We might instead get a Guild Wars type environment. Or Bethesda just hates all of us and makes it in to Rust: Fallout Edition

I have a horrible feeling they’re essentially trying to introduce some kind of battle royale without ever actually using the words battle royale.

It comes off as Rust with monsters. My guess is that larger creatures, the moth monster and Deathclaws, are world bosses that you could probably solo after a long grind.
