Fighting Game Community (FGC) General - The history of FGC drama, general FGC shenanigans, and directory to more eccentric individuals and subcultures within the community

So since the "professional" side of the e-sport is pretty much dead, can fighting games go back to being fun and crazy without having to pander to the FGC and their constant need to change games to make things more "balanced"?

That's not really an issue I've ever heard of. Most of us tend to be upset at how quick devs tend to implement 'balance' instead of just letting the games breathe and air out, let folks discover stuff on their own.

The one good thing I can think of is that nearly all the people I've met who play FE fucking hate her.

Double whammy here, accusing one Melty Blood player of grooming her and another of being into guro and making nasty comments about how hot she'd be if she was dead.

Parents, don't let your kids hang out in hotel bathrooms unsupervised.

update: Attached is the blogpost of the accused which the accuser reuploaded to pastebin after the original was deleted (extremely long)
And the accused's discord is Choco#5384 according to dormimir:

She says she's planning on pressing charges, and it sounds like he's already canceled in the eyes of Seattle's Melty scene:

Alex Ahad is gone, Mike Z's next on the chopping block.
Say goodbye to any chance of Skullgirls 2. All thanks to two cosplay thots not knowing how to say no and some ex-employee getting his panties in a bunch over his feelings being hurt by bad jokes.

Don't forget cristina vee
The thot directed the dub

Holy shit even my Melty niggas are going down. Might as well assume everyone is a groomer at this point.

It's hard for me to describe my feelings of depression eminating from this event.

The FGC always seemed like a bunch of gamers on a couch, not like AGDQ where it was all just for a crowd, it felt like legitimate fun competition with friends.
Seeing how actually bad almost everybody is- and not so much with the accusations, as much as how willing they are to eat each other for clout and not let bygones be bygones- is a real slap in the face for the entire '09er community. Me included *sigh*. Turns out people with power will abuse it, no matter what power it is. This may well result in a new dark age for fighting game fans.

In the very least, hopefully, this will increase public interest in locals and decrease focus on major events like EVO and such.

Minor edit: I think a lot of the reason DSP and LTG are actually coming out on top here is because, unlike all the higher tier players, they never had any power within the community itself anyway. They were the laughingstocks, so they weren't able to abuse any power they didn't have. And it turns out? Power corrupts. The proverbial "working class" gets the last laugh when the corrupt are ousted.

God fucking damn it. I've never seen any shit like that in the anime community and I was hoping none of this shit would show up. I hope it all comes out in the open though so we can line these pedos up against a proverbial wall.

Because of how fast this purge is happening, I'm surprised no one has ratted themselves out because of fear.

However, there might be that one loon that will get off with a sense of power because they didn't get ousted.

Anyone know if this banner for r/Kappa is in response to all the games companies pulling out of EVO? I kind of wonder what the average FGC player felt about this and the downfall of EVO in general. I know alot of just average people generally hate all the bullshit that comes with mainstream popularity and money, kind of wonder if there are alot of people that want to see this shit burn because it might also save their hobby.

The reason thats the banner is because one of the mods, Maikky, banned all the hentai/porn posts a while ago. Most people I've seen in the FGC talking about this are sad to see EVO go. The people that want it to burn down are the ones thinking the FGC will go back to the arcade days where you'd see money matches, on stage shit talking, and all the other old entertaining stuff. I don't think it would ever return to that since a lot of the new blood wasn't around for it and seem more interested in sponsor/streaming money, but who knows.

I think the "average" FGC player is generally in favor of esports. There's definitely a sense of validation that a lot of people get when their nerd hobby is presented in the mainstream as something that is cool. I would probably wager that the majority of fighting game guys came in as a result of it's borderline mainstream popularity. Casual semi-players like Maximillion Dood and Koefficient are a huge inlet to the greater community, and retired players like Aris also bring a ton of popularity to the scene with them. This is a problem for a lot of guys who genuinely loved the DIY nature of the old days. To give an analogy, most of the FGC listens to Green Day and thinks they're fans of punk rock.

r/Kappa is a bit of an anomaly in the community. They're like 5% guys who actually play the games and go to events, 20% casual players, and everyone else probably watches evo streams and maybe a handful of other majors in a year and has never played at a tourney or even an arcade in their life. Kappa basically functions as a surrogate for old /fgg/ threads, so basically think of /v/ and how they think they know better than everyone else despite spending more time bitching about popular games than they do playing the games that they allegedly like.

I can't speak on behalf of anyone but myself, but I think esports are a cancer to the scene, and all of the shit happening right now is probably long overdue. I don't think it's any worse in FG or smash circles than it is in any convention settings or even among spectators of conventional sports, but generally speaking the people at those events don't gain nearly as much notoriety as good fighting game players. After thinking about it a bit, I would wager this shit is more or less equally prevalent in the anime FG circle, but nobody knows who any of those guys are outside of the other people competing with them. This isn't going to bring the old days back though, the only possible result is stricter rules and events being even more sterile and shitty than they've already become.

That's most things in general; acceptance/normalization brings larger crowds and with it money, in return for watering shit down to a hollow husk of what it once was. While I'm not going to call the girls a bunch of vapid whores; I've been to enough conventions of various types to know what goes in the hotel rooms. Consensual, coerced, or otherwise, a lot of shady shit goes down with a bunch of reckless teens/early-twenties; especially when the alcohol comes out and people want to "be cool." And to me, the main problem is people get star-struck (for lack of a better term) and then shit goes down in hotel rooms or other places; but because the central reasoning for everyone to be there is the event, the event and its community gets slammed. Then there's a need for an ever expanding list of rules because less than 1% of the population did something stupid.

Fuck, last year there was a batch of drinks that got roofied at the EVO after party, a party you didn't need a badge to get into. But you know how it went; the FGC/Gaming culture has a fucking predator problem that needs to be corrected. Whether the perp (who was never found) was part of the FGC or not is irrelevant; people do bad things, and use whatever cover they can to hide themselves... but that doesn't make a good rallying cry or need for a 30-person strong diverse team to root out sexism in whatever industry.

I’m surprised Nintendo cares since a lot of their games appeal directly to pedophiles. Oh I’m sorry, all those scantily clad 7-year-old girls in Fire Emblem are actually 1,000 year old dragons.
Not to mention the Inklings. They specifically tout them as 14 years old yet they sure paid a lot of attention to animate their hip swings in a not-so-subtle way. Really gotta wonder if Japan's aware of how they've been feeding the means for pedo groups to develop on a silver platter...

I agree wholeheartedly on both accounts.

I'm just glad the majority of my social life takes place outside the community, and all I want to do at events outside of play games is wander around with my FG buddies getting smashed and checking out the local restaurants. I think all of this is going to put a damper on any FG vacations I might be taking from now on though, because up till now if I'm at an event and all of my games are done for the day, I'm drinking.

It isn't even real balancing anymore, it's all done to appease the watchers of tournaments rather than the actual players which is just surreal to me. A fighting game can be balanced between characters, but still not feel samey if the characters are done right and are different enough from each other, like in Virtua Fighter for example. On the other hand SFV balancing is done with this dumb "character rotation" where they buff character they want people to see more of and nerf those they don't want to see so it's a more fun watching experience.

In Tekken 7 "balancing" just means giving more combo damage. It's retarded, now every character has insane wall carry and big damage unga bunga moves which also crush. Characters are completely homogenized as are their movesets. King's ff+1 is a long range CH homing mid launcher that's safe on block. What use is there of giving him other moves at this point then? Lee was always really hard to play, but ever since 4 he was THE character if you wanted to talk about godlike wall carry. Now every character has godlike wall carry so there's really no reason for playing Lee, why do the same damage for a shit ton of more effort? In Season 3 how did they buff characters like 'zuya who had really shitty basic moves? Did they finally fix the trash hitbox of his 1 jab so he can actually control the flow of the match which will eventually lead to his crazy air juggles? Nah, they just gave him more combo damage. Absolute ass-backwards thinking.
