Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

Is there a trick to getting into FF14? No judgement, I’d like to enjoy 14 as I like some other final fantasies but only ever gotten into WoW as an mmo and everytime I try 14 something about it just feels so dry and unengaging to me. Might just not be for me but curious if any fans of the game had a similar experience and how they got past it
Might be because you’re in ARR, and the base game is incredibly mid. You may just also not like the game and that’s fine. If you don’t like something, don’t play it.

Me personally, I’m a final fantasy autist so xiv was naturally appealing to me.
I hear lots of people praise the story but anytime I tried to give the MSQ a chance it bored me to tears. People said it gets better with heavensward but I think that’s when I got more bored and gave up last time. Seems like too many partial ideas from previous final fantasy games patchworked together
Alright so it looks like you got to heavensward. It’s a good expansion but the thing about XIV is the story is very very slow. It’s one of those things where you need to have actual investment to play it. Don’t force yourself to play it. I’ve tried to force myself to play the Witcher 3, I’ve tried to force myself to play monster hunter world. Didn’t really like either game.

If you're going in expecting an amazing story you're going to be let down. XIV is good for an MMO. You aren't getting some epic storytelling experience so if you're being sold on that, maybe reevaluate.

The way it hooked me was it basically being Final Fantasy: Member Berries. There are tons of old callbacks to older installments in the series that I enjoyed. But if you don't enjoy MMOs (ie, the grindy, repetitive nature) you probably aren't going to find XIV that interesting if the story isn't compelling to you.

Had a lucky drop and got my Shroud of Darkness on run #7 of COD. Feelsgood.

Still going to keep running it until I've geared my 7 roles with Clouddark armor tho.

I remember going to Northern Thanalan as early as lvl 35 with some classes (like White Mage) and spending nights farming.
Nthan fate trains were the most fun I ever had in ARR, just running around the zone in a massive death ball while arguing about the dumbest shit in shout chat.

Back then it was fun because there was less players.

Now you try to FATE grind and you have half a continent shitting up the servers and nuking everything before you can even touch the ground. I will also never forgive it for Atma farming, that can go fuck itself.

I remember back on Phoenix I was one of the first people setting up PFs for Northern Thanalan FATE trains, this around 2014-2015. Parties got filled up in 5-10 minutes, and like you said, there weren't enough people back then (nor skills were that powerful) to nuke everything. The map was quite small, no flying mounts, only Holy, Rain of Death and Ring of Thorns spam.

Summoner's Bane was limited to a max of 3 targets, you had Paladin spam Circle of Scorn and Warrior spam of Overpower.

And also you didn't have CDs refresh on death.
arr fate farming when the blue mage came out.
I didn't do ARR fate, I didn't bother with BLU up until it was brought up to lvl 70, then I asked a friend to boost me and he brought me to the Lochs and I leveled up easily (when the method of shared exp still worked, don't know if it still viable today).

Cross-server functionality practically destroyed the small little comfy server communities you had beforehand.

Something, something, globalisation.

>FFXIV player complains frequently on the forums that it "get(s) kicked from multiple parties per day"
>Same player screeches about plugins and mods with the usual talking points, "the only reason I'm not skilled is because I'm on PS5 and I'm not CHEATING like those modders!"
>Forum hunts it down on Mare and discord and determines that entire thing was a lie

Imagine spending hours creating this tranny.

I'm gonna be that faggot and ask that if you have any materia left over afterwards to give me the hair so I don't have to spend 30+mil on the MB for it.

On one hand, you are technically correct.

On the other hand, I'm vaguely glad it happened because old Aether and Coeurl's closed communities were fucking cancer.

Damn, that's what I get for unsubbing. I catch the drama late.
I have not realistically played since, what, a few weeks after the last story update went live? Subbing or playing the game has no bearing on checking this thread.

The only thing I truly lament is the fact that back then at the very least, Balmung was quarantined so their faggotry couldn't spread anywhere else. So much for that...
When's the next patch drop anyway? I'm eager to see how SEnix doubled down on trooncat
Spare yourself the pain, brother. :stress:
I don't check this thread when I'm not playing.
You're better off checking the FFXIV Community Thread than here. Most of us here just shoot the shit and mald about Yawntrail. There's more community drama and stuff that gets discussed there.

I've let my sub run out after finishing DT MSQ, and uninstalled. I've never uninstalled the game since I first installed it way back in 2014.
