Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

The game’s msq should have just ended at base EW. The expansion had its flaws and should have been 2 instead of one but it was still good and was satisfying enough to close the book on the whole msq. Unfortunately being a live service game the show must go on and 6.X onwards feels like a soft reboot without any new things to hook the player in with. A lot of writing decisions feel like they wanted to reset the msq so newcomers could understand this new arc without needing prior knowledge of the plot (I think Yoshi-P even said he wanted to give new players the option to skip to 7.0.) If EW was a series finale of a TV show then 6.X and DT is a post cancellation season or series reboot.
Also I haven’t touched OC or even Cosmic Exploration which is sad because I used to be so excited to try all the new gameplay stuff in previous expansions. From what everyone here is saying I guess I’m not missing much,
I mean personally for me, the game ended at 6.0. Everything after that I played (up till 6.4 where I just fucked off), feels like a fever dream that I don't care to remember.

Honestly, with how the writing was in EW and how rushed it felt. I told myself it was the end of the MSQ for me. SB was a flash in the pan, and a lot of its success was due to WOW's failure. There are issues with SB mostly post .0 content, but it is largely good.

I was just surprised by the dip in quality in EW, the post-game content was quite dire. I found the dependence on nostalgia to be worrying, though.

I just watched the trailer. Honestly, it's a bad trailer because as someone who dropped out of MSQ of 7.0, you don't know what the fuck is going on. They don't name the updates or anything, show what you are selling, really basic marketing.

Numbers are also below 1 million, so that end statement can be viewed as false advertising to an extent.

At this point i would rather just stick with leveling gatherers and crafters just to not have to deal with people and be relatively stress free.

Games can get old to a player, but if a game's content is just instantly dated upon completion, that's a deeply flawed design, and it amazes me that FF14 has done this for so long without that much pushback from the playerbase
most probably just leave, maybe check out a patch later. remember ff14 was always supposed to be a game you can take breaks (in theory).

Can I get a QRD on the new deep dungeon? Everyone’s already exclaiming that Dawntrail is saved for realsies this time.
DD itsself is the same as before, you get more checkpoints though. By the looks of it it'll be pomanders, some kind of magicite/clone and some new item you can interact with to get a positive or negative buff for the next floor.

What people are hyping up is that, after doing the DD you can engage with a 4 man boss that will have different state/mechanics depending on how much currency you pay before starting the encounter. Like 15 items will be around Ex level and 40 will be Ultimate level. idk I am a little disappointed that once again, all their effort goes into a boss fight and the actual deep dungeon part looks more or less the same, but at least it looks reasonably pretty.

Arthars is currently glazing the PLL on twitter which means it's probably another dud patch.

The content isn't fun to do casually Arthars, and you acting like a hype man on Twitter because you want to suck Mr. Ozma's cock or something isn't going to fix this.

The casual battle content is BORING, he sounds like the XIV white knights who tell you to do fishing if you're bored.

Let's look back at the trends when they added casual battle content and even Deep Dungeons: Occult Crescent? Died. Eureka Orthos? Died, and runs and parties never became as popular as POTD and even HOH. Deep Dungeon won't hook casual players like he thinks it will.

Maybe I don't get it, but FFXIV casuals are constantly forced through battle content - even the most casual of casuals are forced through nearly every single dungeon and trial in the game as part of the MSQ. Normal Shinryu is forced content, as is Normal Hades, Zodiark, Hydalen on top of all kinds of other tough (for casual) content. Normal Raiding (and 24 man raiding) is also content that casuals aren't forced to do, but is there specifically for them to do.

It's very specifically designed to not be WoW's "Quest Hub, grab 15 quests and run out and mindlessly doing <activity>" so I'm not sure what the fuck he's even talking about here? FF14 is a very forced-battle content game with higher steaks for casuals then compared to other games. I struggle to think of a ton of content in FFXIV that wouldn't be classed as "battle content" unless there's tons of people just mob grinding/mining?

The thing is that I mainly did solo/casual stuff and the reason for why I didn't do other battle content was because I didn't find the battle content particularly interesting. Savage, etc. to me just seemed like memorizing things and just following a guide, requiring a bunch of homework in order to just follow through with a game of Simon Says.
This to me is not interesting and I don't want to play my game by doing a bunch of homework. I just wanted the battle content to be interesting, not just at the higher level, where you need to just remember everything but overall, at any stage. I enjoyed Bozja and Eureka, including the raids, some of my favourite content, same with Deep Dungeons (hated Eureka Orthos due to the massive HP sponges of all enemies), however what I've seen of OC doesn't seem like as good as Bozja and Eureka and if the Deep Dungeon is more difficult (which will likely mean even more HP sponginess of the enemies) this is not really interesting to me, as Eureka Orthos was already not really fun for me.

If what Arthars is saying is actually representative of what was said during the Live Letter, I don't think I'll be needing to resubscribe once the new expac drops.

He imagines of massive silent majority of RPers who level boost and then don't play the game at all. While I don't doubt those people exist, they're an even smaller percentage of the population than hardcore raiders. It's a popular myth that there's a huge swath of players that never engage in any battle content (even casual MSQ content).

In reality, Arthars is mostly mad because he's nearing 50 and his two main games, FFXIV and WoW, are simultaneously imploding.
