Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

I must have lucked out as I haven't been creeped on yet. I have met my share of asshole such as this healer bitching to the tank that they're not grabbing. Well asshole, if you stopped darting around, maybe they could reach them.
I try to be patient with new guys, be the change and all that feel good crap. Although I'm beginning to suspect one of them was a bot.

I see rivalry between WoW and XIV amd I realize toxicity is not a WoW or XIV problem, it's powergamers. Fuck powergamers.
Powergaming isn't enough, because the game doesn't appeal to them. They whine day in and day out about how the game doesn't have enough raids or appeal to their reddit-tier meritocracy.

Powergaming isn't the only group of people in this game who are unhinged. Don't you dare make a mod like this in a video game where I swear 3/4 of the mods are about giving your character bigger tits, a giant cock, or kinky outfits: https://twitter.com/eir_unfrid_txt/status/1136357723715624961 . You get an insane amount of calls trying to "cancel" you.

So uh...yeah..someone linked me this.

Fellas, if you play a girl character, be on your guard because this will happen to you if it has not already.

I've gotten similar things playing as a male lalafell. People will just randomly hit on you or try to initiate erotic roleplay with you. It's creepy.

That's pretty tame. At least they tell you something mildly laughable when that happens.

What's really creepy is when they either try to rope you into a fetish right off the bat or when they just stalk you around an area the whole time and watch you. Maybe also when they just emote at you thinking they're being cute.

I remember that shit. Really stupid.

I totally would've worn something like that in-game.

That's generally any game and a tale as old as time itself.

The FFXIV specific things that I extremely dislike are
- Characters that are just literal copies of lore characters (Minfilia Warde, Graha Tia, etc)
- Characters that roleplay in dungeon groups

When you get someone that's doing both (ex - roleplaying as Minfilia in a dungeon) it's peak cringe to a point where I'll just switch off of party chat and sob quietly at my desk.

These spergs have existed as far as I can remember. They were on /v/ and /jp/, and they produced a constant stream of self-loathing, "that feel when no gf" and "ronery threads". Adults don't go on discord to post porn in NSFW channels and beg other people to do sexual things to them.

I suppose it's more my age showing. I played some of those earlier versions of MMOs from around 2004-2010, and while I remember these dumb speds existing, it was easy enough to overlook them and have a good time. Hell, I even ran a whole outfit on a roleplaying server in WoW that was dedicated to some tasteful mockery of the self-obsessed, pathetic narcissists and coomers that abounded - and it was a fun, cozy bit of notoriety. I suppose a lot does change in a decade, though, particularly given an internet-raised ADD-addled generation coming to the fore.

The Community Finder seemed like a cool idea when I first read about it, but not being able to filter by language is a huge bummer. I'm ierdibly self-conscious about my accent which has always led me to stay away from vc in the parties I've been in which leads to not being able to socialize with the other members as well.

I always end up quietly leaving because I feel like an outcast.
I've never once thought voice chat and MMOs were a terribly good idea, but that again might be my experiences. I am so used to just... the weirdest, weirdest fucking people talking about the dumbest shit in the vents and later discords that surrounded this genre. Like, I've had to develop good public speaking over the years - I hardly expect that of everyone. But some of these fucking voices, they're just goddamn needles on chalkboard combined with deathfat farts in their bass. I don't really think you're missing much.

It's not even necessarily them, I feel. Actual metagame people, who are really in it for their parsies or their speed-clears or their world-firsts or whatever... tend to keep to themselves, and I've found tend to either be chill with people not on that level OR they just avoid coming into contact with people not on that level. It's this other kind - people who aren't actually good or dedicated or sporting, who are often incompetent shitters, who just latch onto this shit both for the orthodox order that it provides AND for the feeling of power over others. The kinds of people who will spend 10 minutes screaming that something took an extra 30 seconds, who fucking collapse in on themselves and try to block anyone that shows the barest bit of spine, who tend to sound like 14-year-old-eunuchs... those are this new breed that seem absolutely everywhere, fuck up every one of these games, try to insert themselves and center everything around themselves.

I used to think that dungeon/duty-finder was where the bad kind crawled out of -- people feeling that the anonymity of functions like that allowed them to be complete shitstains without any real recourse. Classic's re-launch shook me of that opinion, though; the meta in that game right now is that everyone spends 2-3 hours a week to get their world boofs, does a raid which saves 15-30 minutes from everyone getting those boofs, and then logs out on the character until next week when they go boof-hunting again. It goes without saying - classic's endgame is fucking boring, and perhaps the WORST part of the game.

Yet everything is centralized around it -- you've got to just boost your way through leveling ASAP, dungeons are for fags. Leveling is for fags. Fun is for fags - you've got to parse. But not parse on something difficult, like a FF14 or a retail WoW raid; parse where the 'challenge' is pushing one button and watching your threat. You've got to spend gold to get gear that gives you .01% better parsies or you're DEAD WEIGHT SLACKER, and the most efficient way to get gold is to buy it from chinamen who fly around on level 1 characters beneath the map to gather resources in the high-level zones 24/7 or who run massive botfarms which just repeat dungeons 24/7 for raw currency. A game which is intentionally slow, clunky as fuck because it's from an era where balance wasn't a concern, and which was supposed to either be a fun nostalgia trip or an interesting little distraction for people to relax in... has been, thanks to this modern breed of pathetic fucking faggot, turned into a save space for sweaty escapists and no-one else. Casual players and guilds got driven off quite a while ago because it's just so tedious to deal with these kind of fuckers, and now the redditors are freaking out that they can't get enough people who want to spend 4 hours a week pressing 2-button rotations.

I really wish reality would slap these people like a brick through stained glass, but that seems increasingly fanciful.

NGL, glad I passed on getting into Classic. I knew damn well the feel wasn't going to be anywhere near the same.

What made OG Classic fun was a sense of the unknown. Nowadays with huge online databases and streamers doing/ reacting to everything? Yeah, no. People were just gonna charge through it, do the 'endgame content' and say "This is it?"

They're adding in a new feature for dungeons (I think it's just 5.x for right now) in the next patch that will let those people who want to explore dungeons to do so without mobs, bosses, and they can form their own groups to do it.

I'm gonna be so happy because if I ever get an full RP group in a duty roulette I'm sending them right the fuck over there. Hasn't happened yet (knock on wood), but I'll pray I avoid it in the end.

Man I do remember I had this one guy who was going as Thancred for this one dungeon. Worst fucking tank I could ever imagine. Only single pulled, didn't use any carts, never even talked to me through party chat, and legit always waited for me specifically to move before he kept going. I have no idea how retarded this guy was, but it caused the dungeon to move so slow I left before the first boss of Holminster. Then I realized it was a Trust dungeon.

Feel isn't even necessarily what I was looking for - that first month or two it was out, it was a lot of fun to see people suddenly being forced to communicate and be social and so-on, and it was a chill and mellow time so long as you avoided the streamer cancer containment servers. It's a different style of play and design to anything else on the market, and it delivered that pretty well. Long, crawling, patient dungeons that are more mazelike -- what dungeon in FF14 wouldn't be improved by just being a bossrush? A lot of those encounters are fun, but honestly there's fuckall 'fun' in just aggroing big packs of trash mobs and spamming some aoe skills.

It's just that in under half a year, the autists had so thoroughly integrated themselves into the "culture" that all of the actual CHARMS of the old game were now deemed as inefficient / incorrect to enjoy, and they apparently made up enough of the population that it just spread. Maybe the modern methods of communication are simply naturally bent to drive out people who aren't basket cases while empowering people who are fucksticks en masse.

Just burned a "4 free days" offer to check out the final bit of the current expansion's story. I figured "well, maybe I'll get through half of it at least," as I was expecting a length closer to the other story arcs throughout the current expansion. What in the actual fuck was that terribly rushed brain-dead mess? I think it took all of 5? 6? hours to finish? I'd have actually been fairly annoyed had I spent money to see that. What a waste of an antagonist.

And then the cliffhanger for the story to come? What kind of anime trope was that? That hammy crap is going to be "the final chapter" to it all? Christ.

5.3 (Reflection in Crystal) is the end of the Shadowbringers story. From here on 5.4-6.3 will be the new expansion story. The storyline of the Ascians is said from this point to be around 80% complete and the only reason it ended up with Elidibus is because he's the last of the Unsundered Ascians. So they finished that storyline with him and are now focused on the remaining Ascians with Fandaniel being the main one (using Asahi's dead body because Asahi).

They did state on record that the final chapter is going to be for the Hydalaen/Zodiark story, and that they have ideas for the next main storyline already planned out. The story we'll be getting into will most likely be the focus of that.

Which btw based on screenshots and rumblings will most likely involve Sharlayan and probably be a divide between New and Old Shar since their ideals are much different. My guess is a Stormblood style two nations story but Garlemalde and Sharalyan being the focus.

The one photo SE posted is in Ishgard with the Vundu Chief probably seeking help of Ishgard. We know old Sharlayan is fucking nuts so I'm willing to bet it's something involving them and we have to go talk to them. Add on the new dungeon focused on Matoya(who again is very much tied to Sharlayan) it really makes it seem like it will be a focal point for the next expansion.

All I really want next is a story focused on the New World, since the most we get out of that is just from BLU and Wanderer's Palace, and it's not the most appealing content to people sadly.

The modern MMORPG has attracted a glut of players that just want to play mmos, and nothing but mmos. They're eternally dissatisfied and will always brag about the "good old days" where only the best of the best could clear Molten Core. MMOs themselves have adapted to this by making the game about the endgame. It is largely dominated by how "efficient" you can be. Most other JRPGs I'd argue aren't about efficiency.

Etrian Odyssey you go about, explore areas, and mess with your party composition while filling your own map of areas.

The Atelier series are chill games where you collect stuff to make more stuff.

The legend of heroes has a story and a lot of background world building if you want to spend time into that.

So on and so forth.

A vocal minority oversells the story of FFXIV. By JRPG standards, it's fine, but it's not a masterpiece of writing and has many pitfalls.

Double post. This time about the amazing community.

A prominent member of the FFXIV community, Varimatsu, who appeared on many podcasts/community events, was caught red-handed pretending that he has a girlfriend IRL.

https://twitter.com/airiiuwu/status/1327594492141060096 ( https://archive.md/wip/OCeoD )

All his pictures of him doing things with his girlfriend are altered stock pictures or pictures from Google.

His fan Final Fantasy band is also composed of stock images and his "composed Uematsu music" seems to mostly be stolen MIDIs that were fed into a DAW.

In the replies, you have all the community members doing a pikachuface, who themselves likely have skeletons in their closets.

Hahahaha holy shit. I’ve dealt with him before so so this doubly hilarious

My enjoyment of the game comes from learning new jobs and improving my use with them. I play with a small group of friends separate from the main community so I don't have to deal with the horror stories that I have seen on this thread. If I feel bored with the main game, sometimes a little bit of RP can change the perspective and then the main game becomes appealing to me again. I sometimes visit the RP houses on Aether mainly to observe people's interactions for entertainment. Everyone is quite nice in general from the few RP houses I visited. At least on Aether anyway. Dunno what kind of degeneracy happens on the other two DCs.

I haven't met a single person who religiously plays MMOs and didn't also have some sort of flippin' psychosis going on somewhere.

When I've played, my corner of Primal was largely been fine by MMO standards, at least. There's a group of degenerates that hang out in Limsa every minute of every day ogling each other's pixels while playing dress up and a few innuendo-filled advertisements for linkshells/groups, but I somehow avoided having the experience in game many of you seem to have. I don't think I would have ever bothered playing if I had to humor that level of faggotry.

Oh, I did wish for a way to disable glamours client-side. Did they ever add that? I highly doubt it given all the crying the suggestion seemed to generate.

I was gonna say, I saw he did a piano variation during one of Frosty's streams despite never actually seeing him post that he composes music prior. Was interesting to me imo.

It's weird because I remember he said he had "broken up" with a girlfriend he had before, and then went on this tangent of posting pics completely out of nowhere.

Also on the topic of Vari another XIV community member Waifu/E-girlpoggers/Ardbert also posted about Vari creeping on her and making up lies about her abusing him.

In better news, Vari is supposedly getting "mental help". And you have the usual heads clamoring for it.

I don't watch Frosty's streams these days. I find the guy unbearable, he brings grifters/degenerates on his stream and tries to play "both sides". He had a recent stream on "mental health" and it's a trainwreck.

I swear half of the stream is on how to be a streamer/run a discord. Dr Kelly sounds like Dr.K who I think is a grifter. Gouka is a hardcore raider from Elysium who brings the discussion in stupid places multiple times. And Spofie is a streamer who won't shut up about positive mental attitude.

This podcast is 2 hours and a half of seemingly nothing. So much complaining about the "community". We've talked about specific individuals earlier in the thread who are pillars of the community who have serious failings as individuals. Ranging from weird fetishes, trying to politicize a video game, being a chronic liar, or being a troon.

As for e-girls on XIV, I find that too many of them seem to have no moral compass or no sense of context. They're fine with guys messaging them all sorts of degenerate shit, but as soon as the hammer comes down, the flood gates are open. When people talk shit in this game, it's always embellished to absurd degrees.

In other news, Maidy-san, the author of the Dad of Light book, hosted an event to announce that he's going into palliative care. Chances are the guy has 6-12 months left to live, and the last time I heard about him, he had to be hospitalized due to perforations in his colon. Many XIV players came to pay respects to Maidy. Needless to be said, he likely won't be in XIV much until he passes.

You know, I always wondered why XIV doesn't really seem to have community figureheads aside from mostly unfunny shitposters and raiders.

Reading these last few replies, apparently it does and I just somehow wasn't seeing them all this time. And it sounds like most of them are lolcows in some capacity.

The only time I've ever been hit on in a game is in FF14, and always by other women; they always think I'm a guy. I...

Keep in mind that I play a minimum-sized, male lalafell with the babiest of faces. So...yeah. Take that as you will.

Hey, you just described my static's old tank's character, and he the dudliest dude to ever dude from california.

Community figureheads are powertrippy holier than thou types in all multiplayer games. There are probably like three groups/individuals I can think of that are actually community figureheads and mostly not hilarious lolcows, and even that only goes so far, and then you end up with people tatooing a fictional mineral on themselves.

The closest thing to a decent youtube creator and mostly not a shitheel in FFXIV was Larry, but only because he had the stunning realization that youtube/streaming an MMO is not a substitute for a career, and went and became a code monkey instead.

ZeplaHQ I haven't heard anything bad about. I'm not a fan of her content, but she seems wholesome enough to be passable in some regard (but I can't stand seeing her 'crazy eyes'). The only one I vehemently dislike (as a person he seems relatively inoffensive) is Mr.Happy. Not so much because his content is 'bad', but just because his content is average and bloated and his overall persona is incredibly boring. Don't know if I can say I hate his content though. In fact none of the content creators I can bring myself to either love or hate... they're just so average. I guess Xeno would be someone to hate because he's a cunt in game.
