Genuinely is there a reason somebody doesn’t do their own Fishtank? Why does every knockoff fail the basic formula of multiple cameras, decent audio, and interesting contestants? Surely it couldn’t take an unfathomable amount of effort to rig up something scuffed equivalent to season one.

Even though you're technically correct, I have to disagree. Teds pseudo vulnerable male persona just exudes patheticness to an insane degree. I'll just never forget that. So Seth while Seth is worse, it would be easier to talk to him for 5 minutes than Ted (if I had to).

I think its real. When I saw Sam film a video with an entirely red light I thought it looked like the attic of that warehouse-house. Wood, sloped upward ceiling, kind of narrow. Not sure how there is a full ass spider web up there.

Even Season 1 had a budget of $250000 to start with. They did overrun that budget too. Not to say it was all well spent. There is some hefty cost to it all so its a bit inaccessible. A huge part of the appeal is the bespoke aspect, having a specific website, not using established streaming platforms.

Sam also had a real ability to establish authority in S1 that did a lot for the atmosphere, that is hard to replicate.
Most spinoffs are too flat in structure i.e. no hierarchy implicit or otherwise. Even in FT production has a hard time establishing credibility in that way, Sam has always been effective though when I think Jet has more trouble keeping up the act.

To be fair as well I think they are actually good at casting even if that is commonly derided.

I don't know if it would work if someone did the equivalent of a regular FT season with just a director cam on an established streaming platform. it is possible, and it would save a lot of effort, but being able to watch what you want is such a core thing. Some times you also get to catch some odd smaller happenings just wandering around the cameras. FT really feels personal like that and only being at the mercy of a director is killing a large part of the magic.

If it seemed like free money I think it would happen, but there is something about the MDE fans that makes them eager to throw money into a burning pit and that may be the biggest part of the shows financial success, hard to replicate this very strange fan-base.

The only funny thing involving Meg was when Ben had her stand in timeout, and kept putting her in and out of it while sending funny site messages, and that was all his work.

from what i've seen he wants it to be an open-ended boomer shooter not a AAA open world like GTA.
more along the lines of postal 2 with a more fleshed out world or GTA3, so a more scuffed "open world"
