Formula 1 Discussion - And favourite driver?

Not to forget, Hulk once again crashed out when he smelled a podium.
Hulkenberg and Bottas both signed the end of their careers in top teams that race. Bottas will be replaced by Ocon or Russell (I hope Russell personally because fuck him being in a Williams like), and I doubt Hulkenberg will get picked up by anyone once his days with Renault are over - he does have a good chance for sportscar racing or some lesser series like FE.

I'm pretty certain his replacement will be Ocon or somebody from Formula E. Then again, Bottas was kind of a last-minute replacement from the get-go so he's prolly gonna go back to the midfield if not just leave the sport.

The general consensus does seem to be Grosjean out of the Haas for Spa and Ocon into it to get some driving time, and he then will replace Bottas. Aside from either JEV or Buemi most of the other FE drivers are either too old (Massa, Paffett) or factory/very regular drivers for competing manufacturers in sportscars (Bird has close ties with Ferrari being the one they call to support Am cars)
Objectively, Ocon would be the better driver to put into the car as he's proven and more experienced. But I want my boy George out of that bloody Williams so much, stick him in a 2017/18 McLaren and I'd be happier right now.

Mclaren's line-up is pretty much perfect as is. Two youngish dudes who know how to drive and don't do stupid shit. JEV will prolly only come back if RBR somehow can't fill a seat next to Verstappen with their existing drivers and even then, he'll prolly have a year with Toro Rosso again because the Red Bull junior program's current line-up is a bit undercooked.

I wasn't saying put Russell in McLaren this coming season, I was talking in terms of if you put Russell in the McLaren Honda I'd be happier because that car did still score points and earn them rightfully.
I don't think JEV returns to Toro because he knows if he does so his value as a racer in all classes actually drops, with the F1 calender he then can't do his FE and various WEC related events.

Because I actually found this entertaining and thought "Hey, maybe this would be interesting for this thread." It's for Formula E which is the electric version of formula 1.

Formula E is a fucking joke. Drivers are predominantly people who are not good enough to be in F1, the tracks are street circuits and it relies extensively on dumb gimmicks like Fanboost.

Risky overtaking in Formula 1 is effectively banned, is that right? What's the point of the sport then?

So long as you don't impact someone else's race beyond a bit of wheel to wheel rub fair's fair. You can overtake in any way you want, just don't crash. The direction the stewards are going is just to let racing happen so long as it is honourable enough to be fine - break someone's front wing in a situation you couldn't, time to stop that; push someone slightly off the racetrack after they did the same a corner before, all's okay. If you want to see doorbanging overly risky racing, go back to the eighties and nineties and enjoy yourself some BTCC, because other than that you're not likely to get it.

So boys we are back in the saddle in a few days, nice doubleheader with Monza to boot!

2020 latest rumors has Bottas appearing to stay at Merc, Hulk out at Renault with Ocon in, Hulk possibly to Haas in place of RG. Also the rumour about Vettel back to RB I have heard a few times.

And we have our obligatory RB-TR switcheroo, with Albon in and Gasly demoted. This swap will tell the story of those two guys. If Kvyat manhandles Gasly and Albon is at least 50% closer to Max in Qualifying and Sunday, like if Albon is able to get P4 or P5s and maybe a podium, Gasly won't be going back to RB and be lucky to keep the TR seat, especially if Vettel does pull the shock and heads home to RB.

While the championships are pretty much over, unless Max and Albon start getting wins and top 3s at Merc's expense (cause Ferrari ain't going to be the ones to hassle Merc), will be interesting to see how things pan out over next 3 months.

What the actual fuck? Why would Seb do that? I get he's still family with his old squad but to leave Ferrari? I dunno I still get the itching feeling Ferrari might pull something out of it's ass.

As for the Gasly-Albon affair, I'm pretty sure everyone saw it coming a mile away. Although I was surprised Kyvat would be staying in Toro Rosso. Maybe they're letting Albon test the waters at RB. Fuck I think Kyvat back at red bull would be great.

Also glad Ocon's coming back with Renault. Although the dynamic between Hulk and Kmag is gonna be interesting if Hulk is really replacing Grosjean.

And can we appreciate the fact that Lando and Chili Boi is the new Dany and Max? Fuck they are so goddamn funny and unlike the old power couple they actually don't get at each other's throats on the track.

I think the story I read is he feels he won't win the WDC with them, possible issues with how the team is run and the potential that RB may pass Ferrari and they will fall to 3rd best next year. I mean yeah, with Ferrari you never know, but they seem to be not quite there and blow it, whether as a result of driving mistakes or bad strategy. But yeah, it would be very odd for him to return to RB with Max as a teammate, but who the fuck knows, weirder shit has happened for sure in F1!

I agree, I would have loved to see Daniil go back instead, but I think they are looking at it as Albon of three hasn't had a chance, so see what he can do, then in 2020 pick between the three of them as they will have each driven the RB in races and they can choose who they think can be the closest to Max as they need a "Bottas" if they want to challenge for WCC in 2020.

Supposedly neither have a great difficulty with the other re KMag and Hulk, They aren't friends off track, but both had said they could do ok as teammates, we shall see if that comes to pass tho and Grosjean is out! Ocon and Ric will be interesting if Ocon is as good as many say.

Yeah, if McLaren can up the ante next year, they have a solid duo that could take them places if they have the car to do it. Looking like a lock for best of the rest, be nice if they could close up to top 3 next year, but with that crappy Renault in the back, that's their achilles heel. Wonder what they would have been doing if they had the Honda in the back this year. Maybe a podium or two would have come their way, given way Max was making use of it.

Honda could come quite good with the Spec 4 and whatever they build for 2020, which returns me to why Vettel going back to RB could still happen, if the stories about the probs at Ferrari are true, as RB may be a better bet next year if Ferrari don't close out mightily. Apparently Vettel has a break in his contract if he doesn't finish Top 3 in WDC, which he isn't at the moment. Hmmmmm.

Vettel leaving Ferrari to go back to RB would leave a huge black eye in Ferrari. They took a 4 time Champion with potential still left in him and Ferrari does... Nothing. It speaks volumes about how the Scuderia is managing to adjust to 2019 and basically 2016 onwards. Hell if things are going as they are now imagine when the 2021 regs come in. I would not be surprised if Ferrari fails to adjust and Williams ends up raping them. Hell the old Enzo mindset is still there, throw everything into the engine and hope everything else meshes together. A strategy like that would only win in Monza and maybe Spa. I guess old habits die hard.

Yeah. I can see Ferrari having some very lean years like they did in early 90s. I mean really when you think about before Schumi ran up 5 WDCs in a row starting in 2000 their last WDC they won was in 1978. So they certainly have a history of doing badly. It even took Schumi a full 5 years with Ferrari before he pegged WDC #3. But they best get their shit together quick or Vettel will be like Alonso having wasted multiple years when they could have added to their WDC collection.

And indeed Bottas confirmed for 2020 as was bandied about.

Why the fuck would Vettel go back to RBR? He's out of their system, the bridge has been burned and they would rather have a fresh new face paired with Verstappen. If anything, the moment he gets the boot from Ferrari he'll fuck off to racing GTs in WEC or some shit like that.

I'm really hoping that Leclerc gets his first win tomorrow, or at least beats Vettel, who I think is more likely to retire from F1 than go on to win another championship. I just don't see him going back to RB, for several reasons, the main one being that if Max is still there, he will outclass Seb again, who has made so many silly mistakes this year that I've changed my mind about him being one of the top drivers.

Here are videos to show exactly what happened. Sad day tho, he was the GP3 champion last year and was on the path to F1.

I was watching the race and couldn't understand what happened because it looked so violent but it wasn't clear why. Then after seeing above video, I understood. Similar to Zanardi's crash.

It is meant to fall to pieces, in case anyone thinks it's badly built. The idea is to take energy out of the crash. It helps, but as you see, it's no guarantee.
It is supposed to complete fall apart, yes, but the monocoque isn't supposed to come apart as it did.
