Game of Thrones Thread

It's sequel bait.

HBO knows they're fucked without it, Dunk & Egg is like better Call Saul it's not gonna pull the numbers despite being associated with an acclaimed series. So now HBO is making their own GOT Timeline.
So, it's going to be a terrible recolor.

Anyway, they're supposedly working on three Spin-offs right now. My inner dork is kind of excited to see a lot more lore portrayed on TV, but I kind of feel like mainstream won't appreciate it as much. I feel like they need to work a lot more closely with George,

You know. Damn. After Season 7 I was VERY much looking forward to this Season, even more so after the two year wait. First two episodes were...plot building, but I could deal with that. Wasn't too thrilled with how they handled Jon's reveal to everybody/Dany's reaction etc. etc. but whatever. Was expecting that to be fleshed out later. Then Episode 3 happened. Was enjoying it a lot, until.....the end. No White Walkers to be seen aside from them all closing in around Bran, Night King is beaten. Just, why. Not what I was expecting. The WHOLE thing about this show has been the slow/steady buildup of the White Walkers being the big bad, then the NK just gets taken out like a punk halfway through the season? The thing with Dany is that I could see her being reduced to being batshit crazy, if there'd been hints at it earlier. But through all the build up she's been all about "be better than that", and now it's "Nah, just roast'em!"

These spoilers, I HOPE they're not accurate, but not looking good. I remember there were a bunch of spoilers of the last season posted near the end of Season 7 and so far those have turned out to be total BS, something about Gendry killing undead Viserion at the Vale etc. etc....so hoping these are bogus too. I dunno, this whole season I've been watching and all I can think about is....2 whole years, for this?

This story is so bad haha, I can’t wait for the salt from the finale. I can’t believe it took 2 years for this last season and it’s terrible. I think you’re right, the show runners wanted out of this crap because they’re moving on to ruin Star Wars even further next. I bet the actors wanted out too even though most were made famous by this show so they should be grateful.

Dany going mad king is pathetic, she conquered all of Essos with no dragons and she earned it then goes keystone cops in Westeros with 3 dragons. She has the supposed best war strategists on her side who are......soundly beaten by a horny sailor into ass play and an incestuous cunt.

Didn't they say they were using decoy scripts to minimize spoilers? I'm hoping that's what the leaks are.

Oh who am I kidding? (:_(

The leaks I read from months ago have been accurate up to this point. Again there's always the chance of a fake endings to throw people off but still.

JFC I'm watching it now its like everyone is in HS and

"She's not one of us!" "You have to swear this keep this secret!" "I don't trust her!" This level of whining is why I stay the fuck away from other women and tell them to fuck themselves with their popular girl shit.

Literally feels like a giddy airhead wrote that scene thinking that's how adults behave when planning war and politics .
They remade this scene shot by shot

This fucking thread is so salty, now I HAVE to watch it (the thread, not this mediocre tv drama). Also is it confirmed Dany is going down a villainous path like I've read? If so, I called that shit real early.

I've heard they shot multiple endings so you never know...

Right now, I'm just enjoying the ride. After season five I've learned just to look for the spectacle, dialogue, and not look for any sense.

They should have paced Dany's descent into madness out more. Like foreshadow it a few seasons ago so the ending doesn't come out of nowhere. She's done insane stuff, but the insane stuff was always justified.

The thing is this: I like that Dany is on the path to becoming "mad." However, the fucking writing for this show is making it the worst path imaginable. It's to the point where all of the viewers are already thinking that she's completely justified in becoming mad because "she's lost everything! Poor Dany! You'd be mad too if you were her!"

It would have been infinitely cooler if Dany's path to madness happened because she's simply entitled and hasn't faced much of a challenge up until the end. Throughout the course of the show and the books, her path to the Iron Throne has been because she's been something of an unstoppable force. And even though her armies slaughtered many bad people on the way, we got to see the potential of her brutality while taking down those bad people. She believes she's on a righteous path, which makes her feel justified for her violent actions. Once someone steps in and tells her "no," though, her transition to madness would be complete ... And boom! Surprise villain! That would have been great!

The show, though? It's making her a "sympathetic" and "tragic" character. If you look at the nitwits on Twitter, they're all like "YASSSS QUEEN, BURN THEM ALL! YOU'VE GONE THROUGH SO MUCHHHH! SLAY!"

I still don't understand why they would vote against having Jon as king after he showed he wasn't okay with killing innocents to the extent that he would murder the person he loved to stop it. This nigga was the perfect ruler he was a softie and actually listened to people and they decide the wheelchair bound fucking mute is the best choice?
I think it'll be along the lines that Jon is tired of all this shit and while they'd vote for him, he wouldn't take the job and fucks off instead.

I'd suggest r/freefolk or r/asoiaf instead. We're salty about the shit direction, but it's nothing compared to the oceans found there.

I've also got no problem with Dany going all mad queen, but it should have been better foreshadowed (i think if the books ever print the throne goes mad drunken queen cersi to faegon to mad queen dany).

Yeah, the show suffers come from a complete lack of buildup. Showing her sanity fraying for the last couple of seasons would have been much better. This feels like Danerys going crazy may have been part of the ending that GRRM told them about, but they were planning on going a different direction on the show and suddenly changed direction just before this season went into production.

Euron is the same problem. They should have introduced him in season 4 or 5 and built him up as a scary quasi-supernatural character like he is in the book if he was going to have this big a part in the end. Had he cropped up earlier and been running around raising hell in Meereen with dragonhorns, this would be working fine right now. As it stands with the show, this also feels like something from GRRM's planned ending that they didn't plan on adapting but tossed back in at the last minute because they didn't have any better ideas.

Oh believe me, I'm lurking Tumblr and freefolk right now. All the basic bitches that stan Dany are fucking spiraling. I love a good shitshow.

Dany was set up from the beginning to be the ultimate crushed idealist. She starts out as a younger teenager in the books, and despite being orphaned and living on the streets for a time, her hallucination flashback with Viserys states he took the brunt of the hardship. Every single scenario, she's had this idiotic, simple-ass worldview because she's young and, relative to the world of ASOIAF, sheltered. To have that all crash down on her as she approaches the entire reason that she is even alive is an absolute perfect character moment. Maybe even more perfect than book Bronn abandoning Tyrion and peacing out.

I actually remember asking a soy boy like two years ago whether he thought Dany was becoming a villain, and he gave a vehement no and tried to explain how empowered she was and how she was going to crush the houses and introduce a democracy (fucking lol).

Shit on GRRM's work ethic and plodding nature all you want, this is a macro beat D&D are using from him and it shows. The man knows how to write a 'complete' character, even if the audience doesn't like the way that turns out. Westeros is a cruel and unforgiving place. You might wake up one day and get violently raped to death or skinned alive, even during times of nominal peace.

BRAVO GRRM 👏 👏 👏

At least Better call saul is written by an actually talented writer
Dunk & Egg is going to be some fanfic mess

When Bronn shot Drogon with a balista the projectile just got stuck in Drogon's scales and Daenerys had to pull it out and he was fine.

Mr. FINGAINDABUM pierces that motherfucker Rhaegal like butter with 3 noscopes.

Also, balistas are equal to cannon fire now?
At least it answers an old nerd question about ASoIaF: why is there no gunpowder in a world based on the late middle ages? The answer is that the physics of tension fired wooden projectiles in this world render gunpowder obsolete.

I enjoyed the battle aftermath. It was good seeing Jaime, Tyrion and Brienne playing twister to celebrate the battle. The space armada was a bit much, but at least it subverted my expectations.

Oh yeah that's good. That's really good.

Hahaha, the Tumblr sluts complain about "Bad writing" but they cheered the biggest example of "fuck you" bad writing in the show with Arya and the Night king.

These whores don't care about genuine good writing or buildup, it's all about SJ politics for them. No wonder they love fan fiction then.

Exactly.
They can't even write a proper villain. Cercei is a stupid smug bitch, Euron is a stupid degenerate bitch, worst of all the Night King was a stupid joke
And now when they are trying to sUbVeRt eXpEcTatTIoNs that the biggest bad guy was one of the good guys after all, they fail miserably, by making everyone sympathize with Daenerys.
