Game of Thrones Thread

Apart from Aegon conquest, there are only two other events I would
Maybe watch: dance of dragons and the first blackfyre rebellion.

OK who the fuck used the Monkey Paw to wish for Dumbass and Duckfucker to lose the star wars gig because jesus fucking christ they just got handed the keys to H.P. Lovecraft

Most of Lovecraft's works are in the public domain, so that doesn't seem like a big deal, but apparently the movie is based on a comic book* about Lovecraft, so its not even an adaptation of his work.

*how sad is it that society has degraded to the point where we're adapting comic books about historical figures rather than actual biographies

Because if they made it a factual biography, they'd have to include the most important part, he named his cat 'Nigger man'.

I mean, you could make a great offensive comedy about Lovecraft being so racist. I just picture a comedian as as HP Lovecraft going "I love you my little Nigger Man, yes I do" *kissy sounds*

Bigass necro, I know, but this guy has a pretty cool list of all the abandoned/broken plot lines in the show.

After all these years one would think you'd get over the disappointment but nope, it's still there.
What the did to Euron is a travesty.

How do you manage to fuck up something as bad ass as Insane Pirate Wizard trying to become a God?

My only comfort is that Tywin was killed off before they ruined his character. Ultimately, GoT died off when Tywin was killed by Tyrion.

Massive props to Charles Dance, he stole every scene he was in, what an absolute unit. At the time I enjoyed watching Tywin scheming and verbally sparring with everyone, but nowadays it's much more enjoyable.

Eh, really not enough build up to pull that off. I sincerely doubt that plot will go anywhere in the books, like the books themselves. A lot of plots in it just die, like the characters themselves. Euron's just way too fucking edgy for me.

Also, don't tell me you didn't love this scene:

I dunno, that was the scene where it became impossible to ignore that characters started teleporting with magically impeccable precision to be where they need to be, in order to do what they need to do.

In the books, fleets getting scattered by storms and then being unable to quickly reform, with straggles being unable to find the rest of the fleet, is a major point in Stannis plotline when he attacks Kings Landing. With that scene, Euron now suddenly has the ability to catch up with a fleet and find them somewhere on the wide open ocean, to attack them completely out of the blue.
Armies started to do the same. One appeal of GoT's storyline was always the logistics behind troop movement being realistic and important, this "And then Euron found them and slauaghtered them" is just generic, uncreative, uninspired run-of-the-mill storytelling that I can get from any other third rate Hgo-Award-Winning author.
I enjoyed him chewing through his scenes, but his plot armor was too thick.

Sometime in the burning wreckage of GoT's aftermath, there was an interview published where D&D specifically said they didn't want to cater to a certain kind of fantasy fan. A lot of the magical stuff got sidelined (Lady Stoneheart was undoubtedly the biggest), and I don't think they were ever really comfortable with it, and probably viewed it as dorky and stupid. That what we got instead was a sex obsessed soccer hooligan tells you a lot about what they think isn't dorky and stupid.

I'm not sad to see Lady Stoneheart not making it into the show, without knowing what it leads up to, it feels kind of pointless in the books and I wouldn't know how that story would tie into the greater plot in the end, so leaving her out isn't that bad...

But yeah, they dropped the ball on so many things that it feels like one would have to redo the entire show from Season 5 onwards, keep the good stuff that came up in a ever dwindling amount in the later seasons and change everything that doesn't work.

Season 5 would be mostly salvageable with only a few changes, but with every season, more and more would have to be changed and by Season 8, we'd reach a point where almost nothing is worth keeping. Only the scene of the main characters siting in front of the fireplace drinking and talking before the moronic siege of Winterfell ist somewhat worth retooling for a decent remake.

God damnit, I've long since stopped to care for GoT, but when I think that we will most likely not get a remake for a very long time (if ever) to do the story justice is just... sad.
We get a remake of every stupid movie that was shat out in the past 50 years, but we won't get a show that will do this plot justice and even if we get, it won't be with the actors that made this one so great. I just can't imagine a new attempt of GoT without Dinkelage, Waldau, Headey, McCann, Christie and so on. The choice of actors and actresses was perfect for almost everyone and they would have deserved to be rewarded with a great finale to match the show's potential. fuck dumb&dumber.

Here's a fun thought: in our current climate of forced diversity and SJW-virtue signalling in TV shows and movies, in any remake of GoT, the Starks of Winterfell will look like a fucking Cosby Show reuinion, complete with ebonic-gibberish. The only white people will be the Freys, who no longer are the Kings of the Crossing, but rather the Kings of the Cotton, who enslaved brave negroes from Essos or some shit. Our only hope is that the remake will come so late that it happens once this stupid political trend has burned down.
