Karl showcased the King Cobra by Derwood, and the explanation of how it works was hilarious. It's been described as a magnetically delayed blowback which has drawn a lot of criticism, and Derwood himself seems to admit that it's only a way to increase friction between bolt and receiver.

It's an interesting idea, I doubt that it would ever end up being practical over the longterm but it's definitely an interesting idea for rate reduction in simple blowback guns.

Magnet delay in 3D printed blowback guns has been discussed at length in 3D printing channels. One issue is debris getting between the magnets and another is heat changing the magnetic force. I have a .22 design I've been sitting on that uses magnet delayed blowback to reduce stress on 3D printed parts. That's typically why its attractive. The magnets keep the force between the bolt and barrel.
I don't understand how this guy's design will handle wear.

I'll need to see it properly tested to believe permanent magnets can actually be used like this in a practical way.

Magnets have been talked about for a long time for making a simple blowback design a delayed blowback design. The problem is, as I understand it, that the physics just doesn't support it. Apparently the magnets just aren't strong enough to be useful, while staying under the weight of a conventionally designed mechanically delay blowback system.

Magnets are one of those things that have a certain allure to autists and the scammer's mark. I just don't want people fall for some snake oil routine before this new device is actually vetted. It wouldn't be the first time a useless marketing gimmick has been shilled as revolutionary.

If the guy has succeeded in getting special performance capabilities out of his magnetized design, then great. Perhaps he will have worked some real voodoo that will revolutionize the gun industry. But until then: Caveat emptor.

I am pretty sure I have posted about this before but the big problem with Derwood's KC-9 is that

1. It doesn't fucking work
2. The bolt is proprietary, he refuses to release the specs so that people can DIY them and he is demanidng $200 a pop for one.
Do you see this poorly tack welded piece of shit? only $200
This bullshit and his everlasting shitfit over the FGC-9 (which is a nothingburger completely of his own invention) is what makes Derwood such a faggot.

There are some absolutely sound guys doing 3D printed firearms stuff (RIP JStark) from what I would consider the correct motivations (can't stop the signal, in the spirit of Philip Luty) but theres also a lot of people looking for autistic personal glory like derwood.

And then you have the mentally ill men in frocks who are convinced they need 3d printed guns to bash the fash because White Nationalists are going to come for them any day now to take away their right to late-term abort black babies from their theoretically transplanted wombs. They need 3d printing because they spent their gun fund on DSA merch, bathtub oestrogen and ugly flags. Fuckers are worse for flags than Ulstermen, and absolute drama queens.

I left the community last year but I doubt it has changed too much.
There are a few 3D print gun groups that seem to care more about the attention and selling swag with their logos on it. AWCY is the worst offender.
They seem to focus more on making memey videos and posts on social media than actually getting the designs out and open to collaboration. They teased the CETME C printed receiver but didn't release it for over 6 months. They may still not have an official release. They also released an under barrel grenade launcher but didn't properly beta test it(their testing is fairly closed) before releasing so it had problems and was unsafe. Someone else in the community had to fix it and I think that pissed off the group. Someone prominent in the community also released his own CETME receiver in response to AWCY not releasing theirs and it seems to have upset them as well. I think their expectation is to be the mysterious cool kids in the 3D printing community where everyone hangs on their every post, waiting for a release.
Modifying designs without attribution causes drama. Ctrl-Pew's rocket chat instance is pretty strict on what you can discuss in each channel. It's strictly business.
One designer is a depressed alcoholic living in Ukraine who supposedly left the US to fight in Donbas in 2014 with the hopes Russia would assist the fighters there and recognize the area's independence. Turns out Russia basically took over and, I think, killed some of his friends who outlasted their usefulness. I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't putting anything out given the war.
Aside from that, most designers are cool except for the people who withhold designs.
The printers can be completely retarded. The SRA/John Brown 3D gun printers are larpy faggots who want attention. Also furries. Lots of furries. A consistent observation between the different chats/communities is that "lefty" members start drama and make it about an aesthetic.

Basically what the guy above said.
