General GunTuber thread

I'll give you the short version, there was a bit of wiggle when the upper and lower were assembled (he claims 1/8 inch of slop but it wasn't that much, he also claims he's "Never seen an AR like that" which is total bullshit lots of ARs have a bit of wiggle between the upper and lower) and he claims that due to the material properties of polymer the tolerances would naturally need to be looser and so you'll never get as tight of a lockup between the upper and the lower so long as the lower is polymer.

Which is a good indication that he doesn't understand the material properties of polymer, the polymer manufacturing process, or what the term "tolerances" means in a manufacturing context.

Edited to add: He also bitches that the takedown pins aren't captive and that they have the ball detente in them. He seems to think that they will not stay in place properly when assembled and that them not being captive means they will automatically go to the Single Sock Dimension as soon as the rifle is disassembled. He advocates buying spare pins. I'd be willing to bet that if he had a G3 in front of him he would have no issues with the pins on that but then again who knows.
I’ve rarely seen an AR made before 2010 that didn’t have some sort of slop between the upper and lower, and I’ve run into a couple in the last few years that are so tight you need tools to disassemble them. Might as well just bolt it together at that point.
As far as the non-captive pins, one solution I could see would be copying what HK does if you were particularly afraid of losing them. Drill a couple storage holes in the stock that you can pop them into when it’s disassembled. Worked for the roller locks and the G36 series.

Why not just pop them back into the lower after you separate the halves?
I mean... The holes are already there...

You could, but what if your hands are slick with mud and blood trying to hold onto both assemblies and pins under fire, and you wing one off into the sock dimension. Got to think about the operating environment bro.
In that situation you stuff the pins into any of the many fresh bullet wounds all over your body so you don't lose them, like a real man.

Tie the halves together with the remaining sock.
Instructions unclear, dropped all three pins down my garbage disposal.
Oh dude, That is an un-recoverable situation.
Your best bet is just just curl up into a ball and weep for your soul.

Hell I've seen Colts with the pony roll mark rattle like clapped out jeep wranglers. If you're in the market for a "tight" AR, you're buying something custom-built for competition made out of meteorite metal, not the WWSD rifle.
Colt 6920s don't cost 1.7k though and meet mil spec better than most. The mil spec accuracy standard is abysmal by today's standards, and his point about 1.7k cost rifle and fit/finish I find somewhat legitimate.

Looking at the wwsd rifle there's nearly 500 extra dollars tied up in the bcg and buffer system that offer very little over basic mil spec components that you can get for 100 with actual mil spec components like the ao precision bcg selling for 80 to 100 alone. That's the biggest downfall in terms of price, the quality of those components in particular can be exceeded imo at much cheaper cost, too. There's some technical nuance regarding the part selection that I won't bore you all with here on this point, but if the wwsd rifle, looked at in that regard and was considered at $1300, I think it would seem much more attractive to a lot of people. I just don't think nutn has the perspective and or ability to be succinct to make that point well. When compared to a $1k 6920 it makes a lot more sense.

Russell seems to be more on the ball about selling something like a colt 6920 style of gun that is functional and more accessible (cheaper) for what normal people intend to use their rifles for. Karl and Ian obviously made their videos on the subject, so we know what they think.

On another note is there a thread going anywhere about the Donkey Slayer goons on Instagram?
As cringe as GunTubers (TM) are, they are miles ahead of InstaGunners IMO. Unless you have a business to run I can't imagine putting out content on such a 2A-hostile platform. YouTube isn't much better but they're smart enough to let that DemoRanch and KY Ballistics ad revenue keep flowing

So some guntuber news of sorts that I don't know if it's made the rounds in the thread:

1. AdministrativeResults recently revealed some personal details about himself: that he had a day job as a police officer, wore a hood over his face in his videos because "he didn't want to have his video channel used against him by prosecutors if he ever shot anyone in the line of duty due to how intense/crazy he got while filming them", and quit law enforcement because he refused to get vaxed.

2. Garand Thumb has grown a mustache that makes him look more dashing and less generic looking.

3. Donut Operator has grown out his hair to be David Cassidy length and shaved off his beard (including his chin beard which was getting started to get long) but kept his mustache. He also has started up a new numbering sequence for his lifestreams and name for them (Donut News Network).

4. Evan Haffer of Black Rifle Coffee just did a lengthy sit-down interview with Tucker Carlson, for Tucker's streaming only interview show. Presumably to damage control BRC's recent string of PR fuck-ups where the leadership of the company pissed off their conservative fanbase via repeated public cuckings in order to get take the company public.

On a related note, because of that Brandon Herrera shaved his beard down to a very cheesy 80s policeman 'tash. He's just released a video on the Desert Eagle featuring Donut in a non-speaking, highly goofy role.

Glownigger interviews glownigger. Riveting.

This is just plain common sense.

That's a rough 26, yeah. Alcohol and stress will do things to a man. Herrera might be a dudebro, but he still has an actual business to run and employees to pay.
Herrera comes off as a bit of a nincompoop, but he's pretty entertaining. He's one of the only Guntubers I can actually stand in recent times besides the dude from Lucky Gunner Ammo. There's only so much of Ian's turbo tism I can handle.

I can't get too mad at Brandon - he's just mostly having fun and being mad at that makes you the problem

Brandon Herrera is a BRCC shill.
