General GunTuber thread

Oh huh. I never knew I'd find a thread here for this. I don't remember Ian pumping content out as frequently as he does now, he should stop before the well dries.
He's actually releasing less content now since he stopped uploading on Sundays for the most part. He admitted last year that he is running out of guns since he can't get easy access to Russia and other foreign gun museums.
Which is odd, since he boasted a rather large upload backlog just in case things get hairy, but he's had a lot of new episodes filmed during the quarantine. So I don't know if he's bluffing or if the B-roll footage recently is him scraping the bottom of the emergency barrel.

Yeah but it would be funny to watch today if they had done something akin to youtube. Just some weirdo redneck or a dude who runs a pawn shop in a murder capitol city doing videos about their views on guns and culture in the 80s.

So..... kinda like Karl's videos, complete with solo VHS-tier production values?

I don't know why people are acting like the KE arms/WWSD stuff is some secret conspiracy. They've been pretty upfront about Russell owning the company. What I think is ridiculous about it is the fucking gas/recoil system setup. That weird captive buffer with an adjustable spring rate, paired with a ultra light carrier and adjustable gas block is just asking for reliability problems with anything but the one ammo you tune it to..

The firearms industry itself is a bit of a incestuous affair so the cross pollination isn't at all out of the ordinary, always has been as best I can tell.

There's also been lolcows in the firearms space forever, though they tend to be considered "eccentric" and/or "assholes" by the community from what I've seen. Off the top of my head, I know a couple of my guns were designed by one and uh...anyone remember Gunpal? There's a proper lolcow in that saga. :story:

Back to the topic of the thread (calling Karl a cuck) I only recently stumbled upon Ian through a recommendation rabbit hole starting at Drachinifel a few months prior, I remembered the blog but hadn't realized he had a youtube channel so that's been fun to watch.

That was all well and good, but as the old and new WWSD started to pique my interest I started watching some of the InRange stuff. Almost immediately I started getting sperg vibes from Karl, and that was just from watching some of the mud test videos and this only continued the more content I watched, even just basic gear and gun review stuff. I haven't touched any of the historical stuff and I tend to skip the Q&A stuff, which are typical sperg-traps for the barely restrained so I can only assume I've missed most of the fireworks.

That's what bothers me about their setup, after they went to Jim Sullivan they preached about the heavy BCG and a slower fire rate but somehow did a 180 when it comes to this new build.
In all fairness to them, if this is gonna be the lightest possible match-grade rifle and that's the only thing they design it for, it being a bit finnicky is something they may be willing to deal with if it amounts to a strong performance in its category.

I'll concede to that point. I suppose I'm just enjoying that the longer it takes for them to push it out the more people begin to question the logic behind their gimmick gun.

Yeah, and even if they're using the logic of "this is just for 2-gun" they still could have a stinker on their hands. Nobody questions a really tricked-out weird looking Ruger 10/22 because it's clearly at the peak of precision target-shooting rifles. This is a gun with a much smaller niche so it needs to work a lot harder to justify itself if it's only going to be a niche product.

Not to mention that a competition gun is a very personal object. Selling a premade competition gun based off of something that works for you is ambitious and risky as hell, and this is while Brownell's is pulling a bunch of retro rifles because they either fucked up the design or just barely made their investment back.

I just hope Karl doesn't sink them.

Yeah but they try and make their build out like it's the ultimate evolution of the general use AR15 and should be adopted as the M4A3. I like the light weight aspects of it and I wouldn't mind making a pencil barrel, plastic lower, carbon fiber handguard ultra light buid. But, there's another grand worth of parts for a wwsd gun because in reality it's just a gamer gun. They refuse to outright say it, but the only reason to have that gas system is to set the gun up so that is barely kicks because the action is barely running, that's how you get the best splits bro pretty much guaranteed to result in a gun that's less reliable.

Yes, if you spend a bunch of time with it you can get it reliable and lower recoil some, but that's an fiddly and long process that takes a lot of ammo and some technical knowledge.

It was the late 80ies and 90ies when the non-fudds in the gun culture and community made their move to have a voice via internet. Late 90ies the gun culture was collecting fudd scalps and in the process of shit canning fudd publications for their continue support of destroying the 2nd Amendment.

Anyone want to guess what this means?

Edit: Ian also brought up the WWSD name and mentioned how Stoner went to Knight’s Armament, so I guess that’s one less thing to complain about.

Hi Karl! I look forward to seeing the many reviews of your genericized race gun on YouTube, I'm sure Iraqveteran1488's massive fanbase will beg him to bring it to the range.
