I just noticed that Franklin's default car is an expy of a Dodge Charger/Hellcat. It took me ten years to notice it.

If that's true, then what does Fallout 4 having about 20000 more regular players than New Vegas mean?

Do you get how counting player counts for games released 5+ years ago, especially single player games, as a measure of "success" is kind of retarded?

There's a certain truth to it. It's like country GDP or stock numbers. They don't tell the whole story and a lot of it is exaggerated but lousy numbers indicate lousy performance. In the case of Fallout 4 and Skyrim, a lot of that is propped up by extensive moddability, but the longer a game can hold onto high player count, the more it sticks in the public consciousness, the better publicity for the devs. Plus, it keeps an infinite tail on sales. Look at SimCity 4. It did very poorly compared to its predecessors but got to be sold for over twenty years with its mods over the years--something its predecessors didn't get to do. Sure, its probably a pittance but was SimCity Classic still available in 2009 or SimCity 2000 in 2013-2014 with slow but consistent enhancements? No, and it's SimCity 4 that's keeping the seat warm for a real city simulator to rise once more, especially after the Cities Skylines II debacle.

Remember, a lot of these "best sellers" are one and done products that people buy, play, and then never touch again. (See, for example, the year 2006). A Madden game usually makes the top 10 list every single year but do people still talk about it and play, say, Madden NFL 07? Of course not. In the case of Nintendo, a lot of the reasons they continue to be insanely successful and relevant is that their many of their games didn't become big one-and-done productions. Super Smash Bros. Melee has had tournaments for twenty years despite the game being cleared from store shelves ago. Super Mario 64 and Super Mario World have been completely analyzed and disassembled. As for the arguably the world's greatest Tetris (NES) player? That game was at flea markets selling for a few bucks or less before he was even born.

Yeah they do act like that, but the amount they earn from these fanatics through Streamily is immense to not do it. Especially when these actors are placed on some sort of "F.R.I.E.N.D.S." curse where they can't get any minor job role anywhere else.
Same thing going on with the Team Fortress 2 (TF2) voice actors heading to PAX conventions, recording with Shork, & whatever to sell the most overpriced posters and game paraphernalia for $60 bucks a pop, and that's for one actor.

I half expected him to address the Hugo One Cameo episode. I know, my expectations were too high.

They'll try to capitalize as much as possible before GTA VI. During the GTA VI craze, they'll definitely be playing it on stream. I hope those two main characters in VI are READY for GTA VI DLC/GTA 7 questions for a while.

In the singleplayer campaign? Expect sjaak327 creating a GTA VI Simple Trainer that'll let you do all kinds of cools shit, including getting any sort of pimped out car for free, including the GTA:͏O exclusive ones.

In GTA:͏͏O? Yeah expect to get fucked raw in the ass with no lube.
 

There was a house with a Confederate flag up in on the northern part of the map. After The Doomsday Heist update, it's covered with a sign that says "trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again."

By pure coincidence the designer of Pricedown was working at Rockstar Toronto during the development of GTA 3, and had no idea they decided to use it for the game as he released it as freeware so nobody notified him when the marketing department of Rockstar North decided to use it.

Afterwards he designed the Vice City logo then resigned when one of the execs from Rockstar New York came up and screamed at everyone in the office.

Yeah, I know, truly shocking. It's not like it came out of the left field that the current R* is nothing like the old R* that made GTA V, GTA IV, RDR or Manhunt.

Do I have to repeat facts about the old guard leaving, the obscure troon joke from V getting cut and nu-R* "dropping their frat culture" like a mantra? Or are you all gonna keep hyping yourself up for VI and then bitch about how shit it is when it releases?

Yes.

GTA VI will be a conflicting purchase for me. Even with how the video game industry and R* has regressed since V, I am still looking forward to VI. I've been waiting ten years for the next GTA installment. Whether it'll be the greatest video game yet or a massive disappointment from its warranted hype, at least I can experience it first hand and make my own opinions from there.

What's the best/worst of each GTA game?


That's a thinker. Here's what I have so far.

GTA III:
Best - its gritty city atmosphere. Liberty City is unapologetically grimmy, gray and desolate. Really sets the mood that you're in the Worst City of America. The peds, radio, missions and lore supplement that dark criminal underworld quite well. Play it on a PS2 or Xbox, the atmosphere is unmatched.

Worst - no minimap in pause screen. I was going to say the aiming/camera system as a close second because of the inverted sniper rifle. But no map on the pause screen is unacceptable if you want to learn the city layout or to find an optimal route to pass a mission.

GTA: Vice City:
Best - the soundtrack. No question, the curated soundtrack of various 80s songs from multiple genres brings the city to life. I Ran, Magic Wand, I Wanna Rock, Owner of a Lonely Heart, the song that plays in the hotel safehouse, wonderful through and through when driving a fast car.

Worst - the asset mission system. Vice City does not explicitly tell you that you'd need to buy assets to progress with the storyline. I give them props for the open ended mission design. Its execution is poor since two assets involves driving a ice cream truck with a persistent wanted level and just being idle while watching a stripper animation.

GTA: San Andreas:
Best - improved aiming. I was thinking its customization, but the menu system for it is cumbersome. GTA: SA has the best aiming system in the 3D era yet. You can lock on or free aim with the weapons. Not as sticky as III or Vice City, which makes combat easier compared to before.

Worst - the map design. Once you progress, you can open up the map to the other two cities: Las Venturas and San Fierro. The dead space in between the various systems makes it hard to navigate through by vehicle. The map in the pause screen isn't laid out properly to account for winding or bending streets. I get lost trying to navigate through the woods or desert, which makes progression a slog.
 
GTA III:

Best - Sound design. I love how GTA III sounds with the guns, car crashes and NPC lines. The light echo on everything adds to the aforementioned shitty rundown city feel. Portland in particular whenever it's raining and the train passes overhead. It could also be nostalgic bias as it's the first I played but i can still hear all those sounds perfectly in my head even after not playing for a very long time.

Worst - Random extreme difficulty spikes like how Portland becomes a warzone once the mafia is hostile to you, or when suddenly all mission NPCs get the most powerful assault rifle and have laser accuracy once you start accessing Shoreside Vale. Some side content becomes practically impossible if you didn't know to do it before a certain point (namely any emergency vehicle missions in Portland after the mafia turn hostile).

GTA VC:

Best - I want to also say soundtrack, but for the sake of variety I will say style. VC is by far the most visually appealing with it's presentation. Vivid colour pallet, lens flare, 80s Miami aesthetic, it's just beautiful to look at. I honestly believe that the brief period of 80s inspired media we got in the 2010s (vaporwave, Hotline Miami, etc.) was directly a result of the people who played VC as kids becoming old enough to create things and taking some inspiration from it.

Worst - I also want to say the asset missions because I really can't think of anything else.... VC was just that good huh. Maybe allegedly underpaying Ray Liotta?

GTA SA:

Best - The side content. GTA SA is at the perfect balance for me in terms of the amount of and variety of things to do in it. Before the current 100+ hour games with maps too big for anyone to fully explore and so much repetetive side content that you don't even need to do all of it to "100%", GTA SA did it perfectly all the way back then. The map feels big but it really isn't, and every piece of side content doesn't take that long to do save for the collectibles but even they are segmented for different areas and have their own sets of rewards for each (gang tags in LS, photography points in SF, horseshoes in LV). Every piece of side content you complete will give you a worthwhile or fun reward, be it bonus vehicles from the drivings schools and destruction arenas, weapon spawns from collectibles, various buffs from emergency vehicle missions, outfits. Open world sandbox gaming peaked with SA IMO.

Worst - The way the motherfucking trees take so long to pop in when you're low flying a plane. Often I'll seemingly just explode for no reason, but as the wreck and Cj's charred corpse fall to the ground and "WASTED" appears, only then does the tree materialise, as if to taunt me.
