The game does automatically take a few hundred dollars to a couple thousand dollars every in-game day (depending on how much you own). But really I can't imagine ever being so low on money that you really have that problem. Even at level 1, you can make hundreds of thousands of dollars per real life hour.
I couldn't even fathom a game that passively TAKES your earned currency.

I'm pretty sure the "you can no longer afford to pay your utilities" was a bigger issue when the game first started, as some people would side step the banking system by withdrawing their money onto a second character as their *bank* so the utilities wouldn't be withdrawn on their main character. (back when every little bit actually mattered)

Rockstar thought people would really give a shit if they couldn't shower or watch TV. The allure of the TV goes away when it's been the same shit for 10 years now.

I'm sure you could "watch TV" from YouTube videos OF those TV shows. I know the TV allows you to spectate players. Is that affected by that as well?

Probably, but I also wonder how many people still even use the TV to spectate players. I think it only works when they're wanted so I feel like the utility of it in what the game has become wouldn't be that useful, and the entertainment has to be nothing compared to just playing the game.

In GTA San Andreas, small planes are periodically created near the player to perform a fly-by. Sometimes they crash.

Before creating the plane, my code looks for obstacles in its path. It scans a number of lines in the forward direction of the plane. These scans are slow so I used the absolute minimum. (Just the body and wingtips I believe) This is why thin obstacles are sometimes not detected. In addition, the planes would sometimes loose some height, right after being created because their initial speed may not have generated enough lift.

There was an additional problem when map models were not streamed in yet. Their collision would be loaded after the plane had already been created. These issues would occasionally allow planes to be created on a doomed flightpath. I was aware of the crashes and briefly considered removing the fly-by’s altogether.

In addition:
__silent_ just pointed out there was an actual bug in the code. I didn't know that.

I've always loved the planes randomly crashing, made the game feel a bit more alive, fun to see exactly why and how it came to be.

I've seen speedruns of Vice City where they use the Japanese version due to common exploits. I like how the HUD is stylized in the Japanese version to account for the Japanese characters.

Here's the international version:

And here's the Japanese version:

Notice how the numbers have more spacing in between each other. Also, there's a texture decal inside the numbers. That's a nice touch.

Mission Completed! has a ring to it.

R* released "community guidelines" in effect for GTA Online/Red Dead Online. Assume that this will be updated when VI comes out.

Community Guidelines

We have an incredibly vibrant Rockstar Games community. Every day, millions of players across the globe are working their way up the criminal ladder in GTA Online or living the life of an outlaw in Red Dead Online. While these fictional worlds are filled with possibilities, maintaining a foundation of fair play, respect, and player safety for everyone is our highest priority.
To ensure a positive gaming experience — including a welcoming, fun, and fair environment for our community — we encourage everyone to follow these basic guiding principles and to adhere to our Community Guidelines.
Additionally, these guidelines outline what behavior and actions we do not allow, as more fully detailed in our Terms of Service, and will be updated periodically to reflect any ongoing changes to the player experience.
If you observe players not acting in accordance with our Community Guidelines, we strongly encourage you to report this behavior using the in-game reporting tools or through the options available on our website.

Fair Play

Playing fairly is integral to an enjoyable experience for everyone. Cheating is disruptive and counter to the spirit of friendly competition at the heart of our online games, while griefing can ruin the fun by creating a negative environment for one or more players. Both behaviors can lead to the loss of player privileges. We define these behaviors as follows:
  • Cheating: Gaining an unfair advantage by using cheats, exploits, hacks, or other third-party software.
  • Griefing: Intentionally annoying another player or interfering with their experience and progress by using the game in unintended ways (e.g., spawn killing, stream sniping, driving the wrong way in a Race with the intention to disrupt).

Respect

Be respectful. Even criminals have a code of honor. Mentoring newer players, assisting other players with tasks like Heist Preps and Sell Missions, or simply being mindful of your microphone’s background noise are all examples of ways to facilitate goodwill and promote positivity for all players in a session. Pay it forward, and you may find other players stepping in to help when you least expect it.
We do not allow player-to-player harassment, bullying, threats, or attacks against a player’s identity — including, but not limited to:
  • Harassment, Bullying, and Threats: Harassing or targeting others including through humiliation, intimidation, or stalking.
  • Identity-Based Hate and Discrimination: Glorification or promotion of hate groups or their ideologies, or attacking someone due to their protected characteristics, including:
    • Race or ethnicity
    • Gender, gender identity, or gender expression
    • Sexual orientation
    • Disability status
    • National origin
    • Age
    • Religion
    • Familial status
    • Veteran status
  • Extreme Violent Content and Gore: Sharing images and real-world depictions of graphic content, gore, or animal abuse.
  • Adult Nudity and Sexual Activity: Sharing explicit sexual images or using our platform to solicit sexual activity or seek sexual gratification.

Safety

Ensuring a safe online experience for all players is paramount. We do not tolerate player behavior that can cause any degree of harm to other players, or that promotes real-world illegal activity; including but not limited to:
  • Violent Extremism: Glorification or promotion of real-world terrorist, extremist, or criminal organizations and their ideologies.
  • Suicide and Self-Harm: Promotion of real-world suicide or self-harm.
  • Illegal and Regulated Activities: Discussing or enabling the real-world purchase and sale of weapons, drugs, or other controlled substances.
  • Personally Identifiable Information: Sharing other players’ personal information, such as contact information.
  • Minor Safety: Behavior that may endanger or exploit minors, including sharing or discussing child sexual abuse material or predatory behavior.
  • Spam and Scams: Disrupting or misleading others to drive inappropriate or fraudulent engagement, including through repeat messaging or deceptive practices.

We also do not tolerate abuse, inappropriate behavior, or threats against our community or team members of Rockstar Games.

Consequences

If a player violates our Community Guidelines, we reserve the right to take action against that account. The type of action will depend on the case, the severity, and the frequency of violations we find on the account — if appropriate, these violations will be reported to law enforcement. Players who are found to violate our Community Guidelines may see additional enforcement actions taken against their account, including feature suspensions, and account suspensions and bans.
These guidelines apply to all aspects of our online game experiences — including voice and text communication, or any community-created content.
We strongly encourage players to report any prohibited/inappropriate behavior and to continue to help keep our games safe.
If you need to make a report, please use the in-game reporting tools or the options available on our website.
We build our experiences to be enjoyed by as many of our community members as possible. By maintaining a foundation of fair play, player safety and respect, you will provide yourself and others the opportunity to experience these living worlds and grow the community in a fun and friendly environment.

I'm not even going to go the "gTa IS vIoLeNt, iSnT tHAT tHe PoInT?!?!" route with these guidelines. Rather, I wish to discuss enforcing griefing. What is even considered "griefing" in GTA Online when the game itself practically encourages it through purchasing weaponized vehicles and allowing players to destroy one's cargo in free roam? Not to mention the countless exploits of god mode and outside map "holes" that they take their sweet time to patch out?

So when does this like, apply to you Rockstar? Because GTA V fucking breaks almost all your guidelines, daily if not hourly. Literally everyone here could fucking make their own list on how, and I guarantee there will only be a handful of repeats.

Lol, its like the faggot devs saw Bub Games' videos on GTARP and thought "hmmm, we could implement this server-wide rule of no GTA driving to ruin the chuds". Absolute retardation of the highest degree.

These "tightened vice/thrice" mods for the 3D era games prove that a difficulty mode or New Game Plus+ would do wonders for GTA campaigns. Sure, the gold medal requirements help with SOME replayability, but it's still the same mission and outcome. You'd have to change the mission dynamics in some way. Another interior, a couple extra objectives, a twist, more enemies.

They only release the guidelines just so mainstream media & magnifying glass "games journalist" don't have to wine when they get attacked in-game by such "community guideline violations".
Rockstar gives two shits about in-game moderation, only when its for money glitches that impact their micro-transaction purchases are things cared for and patched as quick as it can.

It's crazy how Rockstar started adding things player has been asking for over 10 years to GTA Online.
Better payment for heists that aren't casino and cayo. Quick way to use snacks and body armor. MK2 nerf. Even shits no one asked for like AI janny for voice chat and that vague ass "guideline" that's against griefing have implemented.

A theory is that they know GTA Online is phasing out and they've collected their money and then some before actually addressing some major design flaws that they themselves have created.

Price inflation is a real issue in online. Vehicles that shouldn't cost millions of dollars are being sold like they're freaking super cars.
I'm not saying this to be a rockstar fanboy/defender but honestly it is probably easier to get a five million dollar car in 2024 gta online than in getting a one and ahalf million dollar luxury jet in early era gta online. For the past couple years making money in gta is a piece of cake. Hell you start off the game with a couple million dollars and you can literally make an additional $500,000 in your first hour without having to buy any properties or vehicles. Meanwhile a decade ago earning money was a massive slog where even just a million was so much it was a sign that you had no life and sat over shit bucket all day. You are right though, the pricing of a lot of stuff in game really doesn't make that much sense. If they were to raise the prices of older stuff though, they'd also have to upgrade their performance and I'm not sure if rockstar is all that willing to do that with GTA6 coming soon.
