Try driveby and driving in first person. The FOV with the saloon and the gun is too zoomed in when you're trying to aim around. Thank goodness R* had the foresight to toggle camera views for certain actions. I still haven't learned how to throw projectiles in first person view; it always drops to my feet.
In the settings, under camera, I noticed pretty early on the option to disable "First person vehicle auto center" which is enabled as the default setting.
It's a nice feature to keep enabled all the time in most cases, I'd assume. If you use the joystick to check your surroundings while driving once in awhile, it's good that the camera will snap back around so you're looking front and center.
I'm often driving in first person tho, and you need to check your surroundings frequently or you'll be running into things constantly.
I used to get the drive-by settings mixed up whether I'm in 1st or 3rd person when I started playing again. I think it's because they're different than what you'd expect since the normal shooting buttons are used for acceleration and breaking.
I don't have a big problem with it though cuz you do get used to it and its pretty intuitive overall imo. I think they did pretty well fitting so many actions onto a controller with limited buttons compared to a keyboard and mouse.
I remember people having a problem with GTA IVs controls but I was okay with those too. I think they took longer to get used to than part V but I did get very comfortable with them iirc.
And I'm sure they can be changed. I think I remember reading that it wasn't the controls so much as it was the driving being too stiff or something like that. It's been a long time since I played that one so don't remember how the driving was. It couldnt have been that bad since I was able to beat it.. something I hadn't ever done until GTA IV and V. The older games were way harder, especially when you got past the first 15 or so missions.
