Franklin wants off the streets and to be successful in a semi-legit way. Michael wants to protect his family and relive his glory days of being a successful bank robber because he's bored. Trevor is the character that we all play between missions as a complete chaotic force of nature.
I've always felt like Franklin was just a fat CJ (their VAs are related even), with the most typical of the mission and thus the least interesting of the trio, even Lamar seems more interesting. Michael is Italianesque guy #3 after Tommy and Tony, so not that interesting himself but some of his missions are, with some mind boggling mysteries that I think could've served the game well if they dwelled a little bit more on them instead of the cringy family drama. Trevor is also like Tommy, except his lesser shown violent side and perhapse the most interesting, but not always in a good or even fun way, with his missions being pure nonsense at times, not to mention gameplay issues like switching to a random 5 star chase with no clear way out and getting wasted and losing progress. And they had him kill the far more interesting Johnny just for some random extra edge
In a way, Rockstar just rehashed the 3D era protagonists.
What's worse, is that tonally, the story goes all over the place without finding any sort of middle ground, and at times any ground at all.
Really makes one wonder how they managed to pull off IV, EFLC, or RDR 1 (as I've heard, have yet to play it).

They knew that interacting with the community would allow for more interest in the game and therefore, more sales. Now, I guess it doesn't matter to them much anymore since
Funny how you can say the same about Volition.

Pixel Drain Magnet Link
but also a link to magnet link of the RE3 & REVC too
Here are backups of the PixelDrain text file which contain the magnet links for the Liberty City Preservation Project: 1 2 3

What do you mean by middle ground? I thought the build up between Michael and Trevor's past was an okay build up. Franklin's arc seemed like it ended when it began after the first heist and safehouse. His motivation was to get paid, he did. Now he's errand boy for Michael, Trevor and Lamar.

Had to search it up and the character “Stretch” is supposed to be Franklin’s antagonist in GTAV, he’s one of the several guys killed in the game’s True Ending mission. I cannot remember a single thing about that character. I’m guessing he had some plot details in the missions where you have to kill Ballas but I can’t remember it.

The whole plot of GTAV is fun with Michael and Trevor getting squeezed by the Glowies. Franklin only has skin in that game because uhh plot convenience. I remember beating GTAV and it felt so short unlike every other 3D entry which felt like a long worthwhile journey. I imagined how Rockstar could do expansions like they did with GTAIV, how cool it could be having new stories with original characters. I likely have totally irrational hatred for GTA Online for killing any chance of that being reality.

A lot of GTA Online's content was repurposed from planned expansions, since they wanted to do wacky shit after RDR Undead Nightmare was a success.
e.g: Trevor was supposed to turn into a secret agent, which later was repurposed for The Doomsday Heist, Arena War used props from a cut zombie apocalypse expansion, and the Diamond Casino Heist was supposed to have the main characters.

Speaking of, I have had this conversation with friends before but I also wonder how much Steven Ogg not wanting to be Trevor anymore played into them scrapping these ideas? I can't 100% say if it was the root cause but it probably didn't help. (I'm like 90% sure it's also the reason why Trevor never appears again past the start of GTAO and you only interact with his associates like Ron.)

Also while I'm at it though.
Can I just say I always find this shit kind of gay. The whole "Ohhh I hate being recognized as only one character!" schtick. I know this is gonna come across as cope but I wish I was famous enough to complain about how famous I am. I just don't get it tbh. Just comes across as them being whiny faggots. Feel the same way about Harrison Ford with how he is about Han Solo. Like man, I wish I was rich and famous enough to complain about retarded shit like that. Oh no! They don't remember me as the character I want them to! Shut the fuck up nigger. Like I know fans can be obnoxious but they never complain about that it's always the fact they only remember them as that one character. It'd be another thing if they said like "I don't like the fans who come up to me and call me by that character's name like it's my name." or some bullshit, but they don't.
Sorry, just really wanted to say that.

You don't hate GTAO enough, you think you do but you don't.

The rumor I heard was that the 360/ps3 versions of the game couldn't handle the expansions so they were put on the backburner until the next gen versions of the game released but some kind of legal fuckery about the old gen versions not getting the promised content forced them to scrap the expansions and repurpose them into GTAO

RIP... I hate the modern era and modern business "logic" so fucking much.

I truly wonder what happened to the old Rockstar games that would gladly promote community mods on their site instead of taking them down through legal actions and even allegedly sending private investigators to harass modders who refused to take down their mods.

From my observation, it seems like they did a full 180 on their view of the modding community before the release of the GTA Trilogy the Definitive Edition and it's been quite bizarre watching them turn on the modding community for these past couple of years.

Yup.. This is the big business and control freak sides winning out.

I remember a years back, after hey tried to kill the modding tool and then blame it on online cheating, despite the fact that it was created in a way to protect against it's use in GTA OL. They created a "simple" CoC of sorts for modders. Mostly simple stuff like 'don't fuck with GTA OL' etc. But quietly and gradually added shit like forbidding the use, even via official disks/installations, of content and assets from different GTAs, or their recreation. Then about replacing or upgrading assets.. at least beyond things like texture packs and even then. The big one, and the point where people rebelled, was the "no custom heists" quickly turning into "no custom missions or complex content", they went after new cars too etc. Fucking ghouls.. Business side got scared that it might eat into their online stuff sales. And people wondered why fans were so fucking worried when they heard about GTA OL.

Dark times.. devs won't spend the time and effort on stuff and insist that you can't either.

We seriously need to burn CR laws to the ground sooner rather than later. The current twisted ones are used and abused so often and go far beyond what was ever considered CR. Creating a sort of perverse de facto "right/ownership" on media instead of a limited timed protection on selling whole copies of a work.

As always, it's the fault of the state. The state creates and enforces this delusional and ridiculous fiction of "intellectual property" by which companies like Take Two are able to expropriate other people and dictate them what to do and what not to do. Also, the state regulates what must be done in order to "remain the intellectual property owner", and part of that is "enforcing" it, by doing such things as cease and desist letters.

In absence of the state, all a company (if it even existed without the legal advantages given to conglomerates and corporations) like Take Two could do was "uh excuse me, can you please be so kind and not do this?" which can be met with a consequence- and tax-free "GO. FUCK. YOURSELF."

What do you mean by middle ground?
I mean they never even bother to create a balance between the different tones in the story. One minute it's the ultimate violent edgelord (all the while "parodying" the likes of CoD), the other it would feel like something out of a family-oriented dramedy. Even side missions, some make fun of shady mystical organisations and conspiracies thereabout, others imply they are actually capable of fucked up shit. It's never coherent except for (most) heist missions, which they should've stuck to.

I don't know some people I've seen IRL, would create an state to impose that shit on people if there wasn't any. I know it's kind of an egg/chicken issue, just sayin'.

That's why it's the most important thing to make use of your god-given right to bear arms.

Pretty much every single gun rights advocate or zealot misses literally the single most important and consequential point of gun rights.
If you are being denied the right to use an appropriate level of force in order to defend your rights against invaders, you pretty much have no rights at all.
If you depend on some third party to enforce your rights, what rights do you even have?
If the robber makes use of his god-given right to bear arms, whereas you are being denied your right to do so, congratulations, the robber now enforces a(n illegitimate) property right over you and there is little you can do about it.

So your idea is for people to mob up to R* HQ and demand GTA 6 like that? That sounds like a GTA mission, actually.

Are you ready to pay $100+ for GTA6?

"Man, fuck Rockstar for removing the Liberty City mod, fucking up Online for a decade straight, abandoning RDO, canceling GTA V's single player DLC's and making shitty mobile ports of my childhood games!"
"GTA 6 will cost $200"
"Ooh, quite a steal! Rockstar hasn't let me down yet!!"

I mean, it's easy to get it all muddled up in the constant niggerese being spoken but Stretch's whole deal basically amounts to this
  • OG CGF member, went to prison and ended making friends with the Ballas while on the inside
  • Before Stretch was released, we did that mission where Frank and Lamar kidnapped a Ballas member, who saw Lamar's face
  • After Stretch is released, we go to that factory for a drug deal, we meet up with the guy we kidnapped before, he tells Stretch the Ballas have unsettled beef with Lamar over that kidnapping, so Stretch pops him and that whole escape sequence/shootout starts
  • Stretch informs that after that incident, tensions have risen between CGF and the Ballas and he's trying to find a way to lessen them – though its basically outright said that the Ballas won't be happy until Lamar is dead as payback
  • Stretch antagonizes Franklin over optional phone calls you're likely to miss about how he "needs to pay his dues" to the OGs and warning him about associating with Lamar, obviously Frank keeps telling him to go fuck himself
  • Lamar, on the other hand, keeps siding with Stretch like a retard because "gang loyalty" and because he thinks Franklin's "turning his back on the hood" since he's pursuing better job opportunities (i.e., partners up with Michael, Lester, and eventually Trevor to make bigger scores)
  • Stretch continually keeps setting Lamar up on suicidal deals to get him killed by the Ballas, luckily we're there to save his ass literally every single time
  • Deathwish ending basically goes with, the only way to keep the Ballas off of Lamar's back is to put down Stretch, which is why Franklin brings him up
  • Otherwise, in the other endings, Lamar is unavailable to hang out with during the daytime because Stretch has the Ballas keeping an eye on him to hit him if he shows his face out in broad daylight
I'm skimming a lot here but that's pretty much what Stretch's whole deal boils down to.
