I think the problem people don't want to admit is that the minority jokes etc became a lot more hardline in what people would consider "acceptable" nowadays. Like GTA 3 radio had people who had mexican voices and made jokes about latinos and stuff however nowadays the overton window has shifted to where you'll have /pol/ types expecting full on porch monkey jokes and infographics about the phrenology of negros and apes.

I really liked the GTA 3 way in which it made fun of various things but it really wouldn't be "enough" for people nowadays - we have a sitting US President who openly mocks the retarded and all the other shit that goes on but its not really something people would likely want in a video game or at the very least it might not translate very well.

GTA 3 and other GTA titles also heavily relied on the importance of radio and television whereas that shit has been dwarfed by social media nowadays. My friends regularly send me clips in an instagram group we have that are very openly racist/making jokes about race and trannies and shit like that that simply would never happen on TV or radio (unless it was some crackpot AM radio station host or a public access TV host).

The world has changed a lot. From what I remember the earlier new GTA trailer heavily drew on social media shit so maybe that is their way they'll be "less offensive" with minority jokes.

The problem is that on GTA 3 and Vice City and others they took "real" radio and pushed it up a notch so it was funny - how are you going to do that with Instagram clips that everyone views nowdays that make jokes about all their friends being Hitler or how evil the jews are and shit like that? It's sort of like the problem of modern day TV shows and movies that have to deal with the fact that mobile phones are omnipresent in our present day lives and mobile phone reception is everywhere and phone batteries don't suddenly die like they do in murder movies. GTA V leant into the world of smartphones a little bit but that was more than a decade ago - nowadays its the TikTok/zoomer/retard groups of people and its hard to satirize shit that is already fucking clown world 6.0 on steroids, cocaine and adderall (as well as herbal mushroom supplements)

Like this is the real world today: a woman openly calling a black child a nigger and people doing a fund raiser for her that exceeded $500k - how the fuck are you supposed to satirize this like GTA 3 and other GTA titles did?

I do like the Bonnie and Clyde-like approach, so I'd say this trailer was better than the first by that virtue, and both protags seem to actually care for one another. I'm seeing a route here where they copy GTA 5 and have options to kill either the woman or man (less 'murder', more 'self sacrifice') but they might also have a built-in copout like GTA 5 where you can save both. If they do that, hopefully it'll be more involved than just a phone call and then picking the magic 3rd option that appears — make the player earn a happy ending.

As another person here said, the tone was a bit generic, like it's just a run of the mill action movie. But the previous trailer felt more over the top, so maybe it's just from what they're choosing to show off. I think 5, San Andreas and Vice City were the most 'over the top' with presentation and characters, and this'll be following in 4's footsteps of having a tad more restraint. Where I do worry this restraint will be a problem is potentially in the wider world, since the Ammunation trailer within the trailer was over the top, but that same character is someone we see interact with the protags, giving the impression that it's just this one guy whose crazy and not the company itself, but I could be reading too far into it.

Will probably pirate when it comes to PC in 2027.

Yeah a really tough to achieve ending where they somehow both "make it out" and ride off into the sunset would be kino (I guess?) depending on how genuinely likable the protagonists are.

I think it's going to be great. RDR2 makes GTA V feel ancient. There's a lot of possibility and I think they will retain their irreverent humor. Well, call me optimistic. Either way they will make billions of dollars on Shark Cards. RDR2 set a high bar and I think it's a better game and story than GTA V. I guess we'll know in a year!

The game looks great visually, easily being one of the best looking games in recent history. Unfortunately I hate both of the main characters and the story looks like it's gonna be complete shit like GTA V's story. You know what people will do in GTA VI that lean into that "black fatigue" anti-social justice? Commit mass murder on all those peds for mindless entertainment and protest. Basically, them saying that would create a meta-ludonarrative dissonance since they are embracing the AA stereotypes without the self-awareness that people are tired of witnessing such behavior.

I think you very adroitly verbalized what I've been feeling as I watch this trailer. The sense of escapism that we often seek from gaming/media (especially those of us with nigger/faggot/tranny fatigue) would be non-existent by design in this game.

So it's a question of whether the abject lack of escapism is counterbalanced by the narrative, the main characters and the gameplay.
