I've read she has contradictory explanations. One is that if their body is destroyed they will be stuck in any inanimate object for eternity like a couch, the ground etc. or that they just cease to exist and that's why Charlie wants to save them.
Vaguely recall some explanation for this... humans who die are functionally immortal able to regenerate entire bodies unless killed by angelic weaponry that obliterates them from existence. Their limiting factor is they are confined to the top layer of hell. Lesser demons that are native to hell die permanently when killed but can move freely among all the rings of hell.

I have zero idea why the lords of hell can only die from angelic weapons as well. I assume it's a plot contrivance.

Honestly with how Helluva is, the only copium I have is that Viv does that dumb shit for Helluva because she was probably a bit more restricted on Hazbin. But of course rate me :optimistic: for that since this is my most optimistic take on why Helluva became a gay fest.
It’s already a gay fest with all these faggots drawing and writing faggots in hell. Hopefully the musical numbers aren’t fucked.

I had this thought about another of Vivz's storytelling flaw. She has set up this whole universe where there is this very specific vision of Hell where you have souls of the people from the living world, but also various being native to Hell, you have the nine rings of Hell, and you have something resembling the human society in Hell.

But how does all of that work? Is there some kind of government structure? Are there any laws? Are there some traditions, customs? For example Loona's backstory. Under what circumstances was she born, and under which circumstances she landed in the kennel? Did her parents leave her straight after birth because that's how hellhounds act? Did she lost them at a young age? And also, when a hell being dies, or even a human soul, what happens to them? Do they get sent to some other realm? Do they get stuck in a limbo? Do they cease to exist? What's the deal with this interpretation of the rings of Hell? How does that work?

There's so much basis of world building laid out, yet she doesn't bother to elaborate on any of those, they're just there and that's it, and the entire focus of the series is her projecting her daddy issues on characters like Stolas. She came up with a good basic idea, never bothered to expand it, and got stuck in a perpetual loop of a Tumblr fanfic.
The worldbuilding of the Hazbinverse is, Vivienne heard the Less Than Jake song "Hell Looks A Lot Like L.A." in the year 2004 and thought, "Hey, yeah! Yeah!!"

All I know is everyone I've seen that likes this shit has been draped in red flags.
We’re gonna die young furry remix should have been a forthcoming warning.
Would you prefer rainbow-colored flags, instead?

2016, btw.

You two hit the nail on the head with Vivienne in general: her ideas are cool as fuck, but the execution of those ideas are OK at best, and the worst of 2000s-era Deviantart combined with 2016-era Tumblr at worst. It's as if she never grew up past high school, and the "OMG wouldn't it be SO COOL if...." phase of writing it comes with. Yeah, it would be cool, but it needs to have actual substance behind it first, otherwise.....well you know.
I've noticed after watching the episode Circus (yes I'm watching this show out of order, shoot me) it feels like things are being made up as they go along. I had that uncomfortable feeling as I was entering season 2 and I couldn't articulate why the Circus as an episode and everything prior to it didn't line up. Then I realized it felt like it came after the fact as if Vivienne had the idea pop in her head late in the game like "OMG what if Stella is actually an abusive bitch!" or she saw criticisms of the Stolitz relationship and she thought she had to justify it with out of place exposition.

Hadn't she already hired someone to murder him by that point? Isn't the first thing we saw her doing in the show smashing things and screaming?

As a direct consequence of stolas' action, but from what I could tell before that (at least according to episode 2) their relationship seemed stable enough that there wasn't any chaos disturbing Octavia.

To further agree with @Dave.:

Like, maybe both Stolas and Stella were legitimately happy in their relationship once, or if not that, they at least pretended to be, for Octavia's sake. But then the Circus episode came along, and NOPE, Stella was just an abusive angry bitch of an owl all along.

All so Stolitz can be properly justified so that the fujoshis can safely coom without any of that pesky nuance getting in the way.

Also Stella's demeanor in episode 2 had implications that she felt genuinely betrayed. It doesn't fit with her demeanor in the Circus where she almost had a smug HBIC sort of demeanor towards him in that episode (and my god it is so fucking irritatingly on the nose as well in the way it was conveyed). It's subjective, but I would imagine someone like that would see it as an opportunity to ruin Stolas or blackmail him rather than view it as a "betrayal" and go batshit insane throwing stability out the window especially given how obnoxiously psychopathic and nihilistic she is about her relationship in that episode.

I don't know, this is a plot detail in this show that I really cannot fucking stand. Everything about how Stolitz is portrayed is a fucking failure to me and numerous irritating attempts from this show to convince me otherwise have failed to do so.

I would also like to know how long this drama's been going on in Stolas' life because the timeline's not clear either. Octavia is a disillusioned teenager who's grimly accepted that there's no stability in her life anymore, but usually it would take you months or a year to get to that point. Shouldn't she be more confused or scared?

Octavia seemed completely blase about the whole series of events as if it were a daily occurrence.

And this is why I strongly believe that many characters and plot points were changed in midst of production; whether because Stolas became Viv favorite, or because Brandon wanted Stolitz to be more reflective on his relationship in real life. Maybe even both.
Because whether you believe season 2 retcon the story or not, just taking a few seconds to think a bit critically will make you realize something, or in this case, multiple somethings don't add up.

You can not tell me with how much Octavia is a daddy's girl that she would not pick up that Stella has been abusing Stolas this entire time. She's 17, not fucking 10. She's not this dumb. She would not have been blaming Stolas for ruining her home for him cheating on her mother.

And don't you dare tell me Stella was just that good of hiding that sort of shit in front of Octavia. You won't believe how many times people compare Stella to Mother Gothel from Tangled. No; they're not the same. Mother Gothel is actually cunning and extremely good at manipulating Rapunzel into believing that she truly loves her. Stella is just an angry, screaming banshee that expresses exactly how she feels.
