Do y’all think that Hazbin Hotel would’ve worked better as actual pilot length (11-ish minutes) or as it is? (which is 30 mins.)

Do you think it could’ve worked better cut down? I think it would’ve been better to snip it down to 15 mins.

I can't think of anything that could have been cut, other than maybe that really dumb demon with the egg minions. Those were retarded. Maybe split it into two parts and replace egg demon with another musical number. And use something else for Alastor to just yeet from existence to demonstrate his power at the end.

I think the problem with this line of thinking is that this conflates “pilot” and “first episode” which, while similar, are two different things that have slightly different goals.

A pilot’s main job is to sell the concept of the show by presenting the main broad stokes of the main stays of the season across to give you idea of what the status quo is and what the main characters bring to the table so that execs looking to get an feel of what the creator of the pilot pitch is looking to make. A first episode’s also does some of this, but it’s main goal is more to give viewers an idea of the main thread of the show is about without necessarily introducing every main stay right out of the gate, since it’s actual goal is to convince you to tune in to the next episode. While this sometimes means that the pilot will be only slightly retooled as the first episode upon official airing, this isn’t always the case - most prominent examples I can think of are how ATLA’s unaired pilot is VERY different from the show that was actually aired, or how many shows like Family Guy or Gravity Falls may have kept the broad strokes of the pilot and some of the original jokes but had to rework everything else for the official first episode.

So I say as a pilot, HH did it’s job. It got across a lot of the broad strokes of the overall series and given the reception it’s sold people on the idea. But as a first episode there’s some things that need to be reworked, but not so much that anything needs to be cut necessarily. I stand by my previous assessment that HH’s pilot story would work better as the second half of a two-parter, and if they have the ability they should take the intro bits and spend the first episode adding just a little more context to the pilot’s conclusion - especially if it’s being picked up for TV.

I think a two part episode would do?
Each no more then 11 to 22 minutes imo. At least it would have likely made the experience more memorable because i can only remenber the pilot well up on the turf thing, Alastor's intro and the inside of every demon is a rainbow sequence from the first bit?


Might sound like a lot but this probably rounds up to 15 minutes to what's a half hour pilot

Tbh im not sure what to think of Hazbin Hotel? It has some potential but I'm unsure of how it's going to handle the serious topics on a long run with the comical stuff- it's doable but i personally dislike the edgy humor ,that doesnt even make me wanna crack a smile at the antics .

Also can't shake off that HB might be a preferred project because we already got more "meat" shown in terms of content vs HH.

To be fair, Haz in itself is under an actual studio vs HB presumably being released either peacemeal or monthly. They might be under some sortof obligation to finish a season before anything else of that goes up.

No one likes a Sex offender lol. It's legit the only vice/ sin/ crime where you can't justify or throw in shades of Gray, alongside Abuse.
The creators were likely being purposeful about that at least even if i thought Addict was a lil too soon for me

The Sir Pentious and Cherri Bomb sequence showed that there are turf wars going on in Hell. If Angel hadn’t helped Cherri he wouldn’t have made it on the news and tarnished the hotel’s reputation. Also IIRC Viv intentionally made Sir Pentious akin to an old-timey villain and he was originally going to be one-offed.

What exactly were you expecting Alastor to do? He made the basis of his character known and demonstrated his powers.
