The reason why I care about the race swapping in this case is because it completely ruins the point of the character. Snake Eyes was meant to turn the concept of racism on its head. He was a white guy being trained as a ninja who wasn't accepted by his peers because he was white.

Tbh the 40k thing is fascinating. Fans of it are not necessarily unironic when they praise the God Emperor. It's a quasi religion in its own right built into the fan base and that alone makes it intensely resistant to the current cultural push. You can tell GW despises it, since the whole Imperial Creed and so on was supposed to be a huge parody, not something worthy of veneration. But as more and more nerd Fandoms fall to the creeping tendrils of Soy, I suppose the appeal of a hard and uncompromising anti hero increases.
