Helldivers 2 - Hell is more diverse than ever as PlayStation's demographics continue to grow and change.

Like everyone else is saying, it's a great time to jump back in. I play with randoms all the time and I've only once or twice ran into some assholes but for the most part everyone I play with is really chill. (pardon the pun)
i on the other hand quickjoined a lobby with "genderbender92" and subsequently ultimatum'd him while declaring TTD

Anyone else having performance issues after the update? I went from getting a solid 60fps on 3060 with my settings to dipping around 30fps. Friend has a 4070 and dropped from 140fps to 70-80fps..
They mentioned improved large group enemy behavior at the cost of reduced performance in the patch notes. Is that what you are experiencing? Concerning that it would be such a large drop.

That seems to be what the consensus going around the forums. It's enough of a problem that playing on 7 or 8 isn't possible anymore in our group anymore. 6 is easy mode and 7 was normal; were just dipping our toes in to 8. Tested it on bugs and the drop was present but less than bots.

Save ammo, just tell them "You'll never be a woman" and they'll off themselves.
giving youself ultimatum ammo is one of the finer joys of the supply pack.

you might want to check out lossless scaling. my experience is bordering on gaming alchemy but i've been running helldivers at a lower resolution with in game supersampling, FPS locked at 45, and lossless scaling for 3x frame generation.

I'm running it on a 3080 will have to find the time to play to check it out myself, hopefully they can reign in the frame loss with an update or two :optimistic:

I’ve got a 4060ti but play on Linux with Proton. I figured it was just a glitch with proton. Good to know others might be affected too (gives me hope for a fix).

My 3070 didn't really have any problems running it, however I don't have everything maxxed out. Everything is on high, not ultra.
i run that as well with either an adjudicator or plasma accelerator. the build really shines when you're covering other players with bubble shields/smokes and rocket sentries.
One guy I play with uses recoilless and anti-tank emplacement and yeah "our" build is really good at providing cover. My main is the counter sniper. Good for mid-long range then switch to HMG up close. The cinderblock armor really helps with the reload and ammo management.

You don’t think you hate devs enough but

The United Nations asked Helldivers 2 studio Arrowhead if it'd give a talk on psychological manipulation: ‘Could we brainwash an entire community to fight for a fascist state? … Would we be okay with that? Turns out, yeah’

If you’ve played Helldivers 2 for more than about 15 seconds, you’re probably well-acquainted with the game’s wry sense of humor. A la Starship Troopers, the game sees players dying in droves as disposable soldiers in the name of a theoretical democratic utopia—not that they’d ever see it, as they’re all too busy getting torn apart by giant bugs and landing supply drops on each other’s heads.

In a talk at 2025’s Game Developers Conference titled “Helldivers 2: Capturing Lightning in a Bottle,” Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt reiterated for anyone out of the loop that, yes, the game is meant to be ironic and the fight for Super Earth was always meant to paint players as dispensable henchmen: "What is Helldivers 2, fundamentally? It would probably be fun to play a co-op action shooter where you’re put in the shoes of the evil side grunts of pop culture … how many seconds would you be able to survive?"

Of course, you might start to wonder how fun it’ll actually be once you consider the implications of dressing players up in fascist uniforms and calling them to arms under the banner of an imperial state to die, die, and die again in the name of democracy. "We asked ourselves, could we brainwash an entire community to fight for a fascist state? Would they? Would we be okay with that? And turns out, yeah, actually," Pilestedt said in his talk.

But it wasn’t just players whose heads were turned by Helldivers sardonic spin on imperial warfare; they also garnered the attention of a little organization you might have heard of before called the United Nations.

"Actually, we got a message from the UN asking if we want to talk, in some form, about psychological defense against manipulation," added Pilestedt. This might all sound like the game is getting a little too real, but he said the key was in finding the right tone and using the imagery in an almost educational way: "We do it all in fun and good spirits, and we actually try to get people to recognize the science of what is a totalitarian state. If you start wearing the same uniform as everybody else and do salutes constantly, you might be in a totalitarian regime."

It’s unclear if Arrowhead actually had any further discussions with the UN, but it speaks volumes to the game’s far reaching influence and evocative riffs on fascist propaganda. Games are not unfamiliar with these sorts of discussions, but rarely does one invite them so bluntly.

To drive the point home and prevent Helldivers 2 from getting too depressing, Arrowhead pulled on the shiny, patriotic aesthetics of the US, the EU, and the UN itself, as well as the “mantras of regimes” like Nazi Germany and North Korea. “It creates pleasing aesthetics,” Pilestedt noted. "Because there’s something totalitarian regimes are really good at: pleasing aesthetics."

Apparently fighting to protect your citizens from the invading hoards is now fascism
Might be worth a crosspost to A&N for more people to take the piss out of

The bugs in the 1st game were a metaphor for oil grabbing in the Middle East. So I'm a bit surprised you're surprised.

That much said, when you put it like that, yeah, I don't think I want to listen to Swedes telling me it'd be better if I died for the sins of my country or whatever.

@anklyscr Reject Helldiving, go play Xenoblade Chronicles X, teach every last Ganglion who expects you to roll over and die a lesson.

Super Earth is pretty much one of the most tongue-in-cheek fascist factions in any fiction. I mean, I guess it's kind of unfair because Super Earth is all of humanity and every other faction isn't an option for diplomacy at all but it's also not real.
Not only that the only time we actually see parts of Super Earth is a peaceful community where everyone owns their own house with multi-racial family with a shared sense of purpose and drive.

Hell even in in-game lore the one time the community got to choose the Helldivers went to save a bunch of sick kids in a hospital over getting new weapons of war.

Start reaching Starship Troopers levels of "Leftest have no theory of mind" on why people like the setting.

I never got the "We're the real bad guys!" spergging when the alternatives are:
  • Bugs: death
  • Squids: brainwashing, slavery, then death
  • Bots: death, slavery, and brainwashing (in that order)
The whole idea of it is laughably retarded.
I mean, the game does obviously suggest that Super Earth has some actual issues, but the problem is they're so over the top, and the enemy are busy annihilating planets with a black hole that its a complete non-starter as a serious exploration.

The game is dumb fun, and listening to a guy yell, "For Super Earth!" and laughing like a maniac while injecting himself full of what I assume to be meth, is funny, and shouldn't be taken seriously.

Bingo. If I was looking for story, I would go play something else. But after a long day at work, I just want to come home and have fun.

Kinda like Doom... you're a soldier, here's a gun, now go kill shit.
