Aw man guys i can't wait to UNLOCK DOUBLE JUMP and then UNLOCK AIR DASH and maybe even UNLOCK GRAPPLE POINTS after that! The great thing about metroidvanias is that every single game is totally unique!

Some Metroidvanias can't even pull that off properly - I don't really give a shit about these games being unique, I just need them to be fun.

Hollow knight was not a unique game either, it never introduced anything brand new, was simply flawlessly executed.
It ain't really a bad thing, multiple genres like shoot em up, beat em ups, fighting games, fps, open world and titles, soulslikes jrpgs at the end of the day lacks in diversity, it has less to do with the main mechanic and more how they are used.
I dunno, i gave Hollow knight around 10 hours and just didn't have fun at all. It just felt lame, which is weird because in theory it should be my jam.

Fair, it is quite slow at the beginning and does takes a while until the pacing recovers.

Btw, thinking about metroidvania sequels, was Axiom verge 2 any good?

AV2 was a very forgettable game for me, it's a bit of a... weird game with questionable design choices. I think I prefer the first one.

The only thing that looks remotely interesting is that they appear to have made the movement much more acrobatic and fluid sorta like how the Ori games worked. Other than that yeah, it doesn't seem like something that was worth the near decade long wait.

While Hollow Knight had a pretty tight gameplay and good boss design, the main fun for most people in a Metroidvania is the exploration and progression. Going with a direct continuation is almost certainly a mistake, they should have done a completely new setting that is set some time before/after the original game.

The hollow knight devs released several expansions for the game for completely free.
They then decided to delay the release of a game they would make tons of money with for almost a decade so they could take care of their young children better.
I'm pretty optimistic about this silksong lads. I hope it's not homosexual.

I enjoyed Hollow Knight up until the collectathon/boss rush you need to do to unlock anything than the worst ending.
Its a metroidvania, it's meant to be completed, the godmaster content was not the best, or rather it did add good stuff and boss rushes are a good way for player to test their mastery of the game and re-fight old bosses, but it also should have given a concrete reward like a charm notch for doing something like clearing the first 3 pantheons.
Allow me to parrot once more what was the most criticized issue there: pantheon 5 was shit and team cherry's greatest mistake, mainly due to its lenght and order: there's a reason games like Kirby and megaman don't gives you more than 15 bosses to fight and either randomizes or let you choose which enemy to fight next, most of the attempts I did failed at the second last stretch (markoth + zote + failed champion) rather than the Moth and having to spend another 30 minutes just in order to get back there is a pain in the ass. I adore the ending it gives you but it's kind of sketchy and poorly explained even to me.
I did unlock the weathered mask, but it didn't felt like a particualrly fun nor painful experience, after a while it just felt boring, having to get all the way up to markoth+zote+champion with limited DPS just to die like fucking retard.

I don't really see the point in completing the pantheons personally. I got up to the fourth one and unlocked Pure Vessel and I haven't really felt a lot of motivation to finish it. I've replayed the game itself a few times taking different routes through the game but usually stop after I finish the Radiance. The pantheons just aren't fun. I sometimes fight individual bosses in the hall of gods for fun but I don't enjoy the pantheons. I also dislike being unable to refight NKG with the original music. His hall of gods fight music sucks.

Agreed. I only beat the first 2 pantheons if memory serves me right. They are there for the hardcore of the hardcore to challenge themselves, but I certainly do not consider them a "must" and I'm sorry for any autist like that faggot the completionist that felt forced to do it to get some random e-trophy.

It's an hardcore superchallenge, not gonna say it's a must do experience.
The only reason I would push people into playing pantheon 5 is either for the platinum or to unlock the sisters of battle fight, and even then you don't need to finish the pantheon as it's an encounter you get less than halfway during the boss rush itself so...

I'm not, time better spent than a good list of things autistic gamers could waste their times trying to get, like getting a speedrun wr on the goldeneye bridge...

The first two were at least somewhat reasonable. The third one started getting pretty dumb and the fourth one's just stupid. I sort of regret spending as much effort as I did beating the third one and attempting the fourth one.

The first time I heard about the pantheons I thought it was some meme. Most games would have a maximum of 5 bosses in a rush out of basic game design. Any more and it's just disrespectful of your audience time, especially when you have a potentially canon ending locked behind it.

The only way I can see justifying this shit is if perfecting a boss skips it permanently, so at least you can reduce time between runs for the weakest bosses.

I do appreciate how the whole pantheon thing is completely out of the way and can be basically ignored for what I consider a complete ending. But it's there for those that are into that sort of thing.
