If I give some credit to Sega, most companies would have allowed Hyenas to be released, at least they put a bullet in it before it did more damage being released.
Sega has really come into themselves and become a major publisher in the last decade.

Considering they were almost ruined after two straight up console failures in the saturn and dreamcast (RIP king) i can see why they’re less willing to give trend chasing nonsense the ability to become a financial disaster.

Sega ain’t perfect but they’ve produced some great ones.

Sega can go fuck itself, along with the whole unreal engine clones, fuuuuucking shit man, it's either UE or fucking resident engine.

Japs chasing westernized style games ended up being a terrible business move.
Its so backwards. In the last few years a lot of very japanese styled games did very well in the west proving there is a demand for it but seeing them going back to the same failed tactic of the mid 00s is very dissapointing.

the game looks exciting! Imagine that!
because Blizzard actually had great artists working for them. Their cinematics were always a huge draw.

That Volund sperg is apparently pulling a Jason Scryer and is getting some inside sources from CA.

I am wondering how the shareholders are going to take this announcement, since they are publicly traded. I think they will certainly be more risk averse in the future. What puzzles me is that they were paying for the development of Hyenas, while being hands-off (according to the video). But even with the infrequent information they were getting why didn't they stop the project earlier? Could it really be just the ESG incentives? How much money could they get from the ESG to make losing hundereds of millions of dollars worth it?

It's more that the western side of game development has gotten so bad since the last decade, that I would trust far more the Japanese themselves (and Asians too) to make a western-stylized game.

Or even a Japanese/Asian game with cartoon visuals taking obvious inspirations of an european country culture or the USA's, make it look cool (no matter how stereotypical) and yet showing more love than you could ever expect from a western dev team these days.
Consider the MGS series, probably the most iconic and profound (albeit conveluted) Western espionage story in videogames, written by Japs.

EDIT: Didn't even notice Kojima pfp

If they'd simply made an Overwatch animated series as opposed to whatever the fuck OW2 is, they probably could simply transition out of video games altogether and become the next Pixar. Their main office campus already basically rips them off anyway.

Also all the FromSoft titles based on Western Fantasy standards, as well as having the two most famous American politicians in video games (President Michael Wilson from Metal Wolf Chaos and of course, Senator Armstrong from Revengance)

Perhaps the goal was always to suck the ESG teat dry and never deliver anything worth the value of the incentives. Putting aside the fact that Blackrock probably has the best lawyers all the funny money in the world can buy, if a company could figure out how to siphon ESG investment while delivering next to nothing, why wouldn't they do just that? There are loads of ESG rolled projects that seem to not make back the incentives or are flat out canned but still enrich the company. I figure this is how ESG and whatever ESG gets rebranded to dies; abused by scheisters who squirrel away the money while delivering the lowest effort whatever possible.

Now you're just making me wish we had the politicians Japan thinks we do.

Guy made his bones on an Apartheid Guilt movie. Is it really that much of a stretch to see him getting into this?
Yeah, but I was willing to give the benefit of the doubt because I liked District 9 and Chappie, and the Halo commercial he did was fucking awesome, I thought Elysium was entertaining to look at (story was dogshit), and some of his OATs shorts were really good. But after that Alien movie it’s like his talent plummeted.
