It's more that the western side of game development has gotten so bad since the last decade, that I would trust far more the Japanese themselves (and Asians too) to make a western-stylized game.
Japs chasing westernized style games ended up being a terrible business move.
You had a few hits here and there, such as Lost Planet, but looking at garbo like Dark Void, Bionic Commando, Lost Planet 2 and 3, and Remember Me (which ironically almost everyone forgets until they're reminded of.) shows their western campaign bullshit flopped and flopped hard. Don't even get me started on that shitty Steel Battalion kinect game.
Square Enix had a similar run of retardation, leading the special needs charge with titles such as Front Mission Evolved, the surprisingly good Quantum Conundrum, and the 3rd Birthday, which was heavily coordinated reputation assassination of the Parasite Eve series. A game that eschews everything including the main character and mechanics to make a shitty third person shooter on the psp, a console that I'd rather bite my fingers off than try and play a shooter on.
Square was so convinced that jappy games were done and over with, they decided not to publish Bravely Default in the west, so Nintendo did and when it sold like crazy and they were left watching Nintendo rake in the money, it finally kicked them in the ass enough to realize people still wanted their Grindan Adventures and the like. Other companies did shit like this too such as Konami and it all went sideways.
To break this down succinctly, Japs already tried this and it flopped super hard, and if they try it again, it's gonna be 2008-2012 all over again.
No thank you.
I wonder if Sega or CA are able to use Hyenas as a tax write off like WB did with Batgirl?
That's exactly why they're shitcanning it. Just like the star wars hotel and getting batgirl to a decent state, I'd cost less to just throw it in the trash and fill out a tax form.
