I dont know, i'm not fully subscribed to that explanation. I think theres probably some psychological thing that exists in most, or a large number of humans that people have figured out how to turn the knob on. And the mass shitflinging, cancel culture, with us or against us etc is the result of that. I dont think its some internal puppeteer group recruiting loyal slaves and building a nation of useful idiots. I'm not saying its wrong, I just dont think thats the cause.
How could it be true AND not the cause?
Either it's wrong, or it's (part of) the cause.
It also doesn't really matter if it's puppeteered / engineered, or if it developed organically. The way it functions isn't changed by its intent.
My point is that even if you figure out how to turn the knob on, you are training yourself into a habit of bowing and agreeing to something you know to be false and it's hard to predict what are the consequences of that habit of moral lapse. It reminds me of an old ritual that the Chinese emperors used to have, where people would bow to them and they'd walk over the small of your neck. People have this fantasy that you could allow something like that to be done to you and be psychologically unaffected by it.
I genuinely believe that there's value for a ruling class to have a number of "emperor's clothes" things in society. As an example, practically everybody knows that having trannies in female sport competition is ridiculously unfair. And you only have to watch 5 minutes of it if you are undecided. But despite everybody knowing this, it is paraded in front of us like a great new progressive advance in society. It's daring people to speak against it. It's a good way to find out who is disagreeable. Much like the soviet communist speeches where the people that clapped least long were sent to the gulags. We're obviously not at that level yet and if we get there, it might be as severe but will also be different in nature. But the mechanics are the same, the way it functions is the same; those that don't pretend hard enough to go along are punished for it.
And it isn't even just about the person getting punished; that's mostly a spectacle to strike fear into others who might have been considering it. All these things like James Damore, it doesn't matter to google if they're proven to be correct; as long as they're also proven to pay a price for speaking the truth, so few will emulate him.
The principled, the morally upright, they're weeded out or forced to bend, bow and have someone walk over the small of the neck. And if they don't bend, they're object examples of why you should bend.
