it takes some real dedication to keep that site going over a quarter of a century after the cult pretty much ended

It hasn’t really changed, but they still have a handful of OG members replying to emails to this day.

They won’t respond to you if you’re just an obvious troll. But they are still dedicated to the cult, and believe that the next time that Hale Bopp comes around, that the other members will pick them up and take them with them. They do realize that they won’t be in their physical bodies anymore at that point, however.

Trying not to repeat what other people have said

OJ Simpson would also be a prelude to the kardashian threads here since Rob was OJ lawyer and Nicole and Kris were very good friends. Such good freinds that kendalls middle name is Nicole after the dead Nicole. I can see a Desmond is amazing kind of thread on Kris Jenner.

I'm pretty sure the majority of celebrities sex tapes were the 90s?

There would be a mortal kombat community watch. Degens and autists. Weeaboo in the makings. There would probably a "girl whose good at MK syndrome" the previous version to girl on the internet.

Speed running and high scoring on console, arcade, computer games. Community watch.

I feel late night radio talks talkshows would be one along with Jerry springer. You would just follow a story that interested you and see what it could bring. Instead of libs of tiktok it be like TMIs on talkradio.

I don't know how it would fit but there would be some sort of boy band / girl band derangement syndrome. Start of some the really autistic fan girling.

Mobile phones, the Nokia 3310 in particular and the shows it created. An interesting anecdote how no one realised how popular text messages were.

Is friends reunited in the 90s or 00s? I feel for a period of time every divorce I was told had a friend reunited component to it.

Football hooliganism. (Soccer to US)

introduction of the euro currency

Building of the channel tunnel (hello train autists)

Concordes last flight ( I think also was in the 90s)

What I'd really hope is there waa a thread on Jimmy Savile that would have exposed him sooner and all the BBC amd everyone else involved in assisting and covering for one of the most disgusting pedophiles.

One thing that would have weebs in the making is a certain JRPG that isn't Final Fantasy but was hyped up in every gaming magazine like EGM in the day

images (2).jpeg
There would be threads about the soundtrack, how the love story made some of them cry, the original Sega game vs the PSX remake, Lunar vs FF8 thread, and "wouldn't this make a cool Japanimation series" thread.

We'd probably have an entire forum dedicated to missing white kids and the media hysteria concerning them. We saw how much traffic the site got with the Alfie Edwards (braindead kid who hanged himself) so just imagine how much conspiracy posting we'd get from JonBenet Ramsey.

I think OJ would be a regular shitposter here, to be honest.
John K would be one after he gets fired from Nickelodeon poison penning Billy West, Bob Camp, the rest of Games Animation which he calls the milk men, and rag on Animaniacs even though he never watched it.

alt.suicide and it's subs like alt.suicide.methods and alt.suicide.holiday were interesting.

Discussion mailing lists were also a big deal.

A family member was on 'BUS list' (cutters 'support') and as a really kid I once saw some posts- fucking horrific stuff that would have not been out of place in the Beauty Parlour.

Script kiddies in those days were funny: so many of them thinking they were hackers talking in L337 speak.

The amount of degenerates and pedophiles on IRC was unreal.

MUDs were where all the super charged autism resided.

A large number of the women in the earlier days were old programmers (the type who did punch cards in uni basements), there was *a lot* less feminism.

I think Laura Tishovnik of autistics.org has a thread here, her flatmate Amanda Baggs definitely does. https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-981-13-8437-0_5
She's the first SJW cow I remember.

People shared a lot more when they thought they were untraceable. I don't remember anyone ever using their actual names.

If Kiwifarms were a thing in the 90s it probably wouldn't be a website, but rather a Usenet group called alt.lolcows (or something like that).

Web 1.0 was shit for forums like this. Forums set up like this is what helped kill Usenet.

Mostly agree: although the biggest thing that killed off Usenet was that increasing spam made it unreadable. Forums were just the nail in the coffin. We now have much better ability to hide spam and a lot of the groups are just sitting dormant.
